Honestly? It's hard to say what is the exact mindset Sakurai has for the ballot DLC. The only thing we know is that he's doing it for the fans, but that is kind of a vague statement I believe.

So far, the current DLC characters are pretty in line with how Sakurai usually designs his roster. Although they are pre-ballot... So that may not say much at all.

We don't know how exactly Sakurai is going to choose the ballot DLC. His views on characters may be the same as they are now, or his views may be more loose just for the sake of the ballot. And if he does loosen his views, the question then becomes by how much?

We'll see in time I guess.

If K. Rool is revealed, I'll make a stage shaped like a shoe, and play against 8 level 9 CPU, and give myself a 200% handicap, on 100 stock, with no breaks.

For veterans, I think it's likely a different matter. They are characters already been judged by Sakurai and had gotten in the game,
Very true. I feel almost any veteran has a shot by default.

Ryu is the only newcomer DLC so far. I am willing to say that he does fit in line with how Sakurai chooses the roster.

Even if K. Rool had the highest number of ballot votes, if Sakurai can't think of a unique moveset for him, he won't get it.

I dont think Nintendo chose the right word with 'ballot', which implies that whoever gets the most votes wins.

More like... a 'tally' - they add the votes and use the results as a guide. The top, say 10-15 characters voted for are then on an even playing field.

So I've been out all day working on my Miiverse Marathon.

Where are we on the King K. Rool debate? Also, has that Dr. Mario stage been confirmed fake?

If relevance is indeed a bigger factor than we expected then I feel Bandanna Dee might be the newest front runner. If King K. Rool is deemed "irrelevant" then the same would probably apply to Issac too putting them both below Bandanna Dee who I believe is the third highest voted character (this is only hypothetical btw. I still believe King K. Rool and Issac have a highest chance of becoming DLC than any other character)

Dr. Mario stage has been proven to have problems, but hasn't been deconfirmed yet.
Ran into some Rool salt, censored for language.

I'm still a Justin Belieber and am going to say the Doc Muzza stage is real.

Radical Beam's Radical Prediction:

Today we will get:

Wonder Red Brawler (which will look ridic good)

Captain Toad Gunner, with probably a pickaxe gun.

Summer outfits to match the parka outfits - maybe Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses/peak hats.

This might be a little farfetched, but I think there might be another reason the stage may be fake. Remember a while back the models from Smash Wii U were dumped? What if the stage photos are just generated in a computer program and the menu made in photoshop? It's not really hard to use the models that are out in the wild :p.

Personally, I think King K. Rool is very relevant.
When you talk about new Donkey Kong characters, fan-voted characters, and just generally long overdue characters he is VERY relevant.
I feel that these five characters are long overdue... they have been around since before Smash 64 existed and they are still not playable.

What a travesty. It is a shame.

Meowth seems kind of out of nowhere. Is he really popular for Smash? I get that he's one of the most iconic Pokemon though, thanks to the show.

I won't mind him though, although he's a Pokeball still

Meowth seems kind of out of nowhere but he is pretty well-known compared to most Pokeball Pokemon... the anime definitely keeps him in the public eye even if the games don't.

I don't know if it's fake or not, but wasn't there a rumour that said Meowth was planned for SSB64 instead of Jiggs, but they were running out of time so they scrapped him and used part of Kirby to make Jiggs instead?

He isn't that popular anymore, though.

That was an unverified rumor.

That's an old image. He isn't that popular anymore.
Ahhh, okay. I was wondering about that image.

Not sure. It might be one of those rumors that was recently debunked. We can ask @PushDustIn about it.

I kind of disagree on the latter. Most iconic Pokemon just happens to be from Gen 1.

I wouldn't mind Meowth in, though I don't care for the Pokemon itself.

I just love cats

Ah, I am sure many people will hype for Squirtle and Ivysaur if they are announced despite the "oversaturation problem". Hell, we got more 1st gen Pokemon as playable characters in Pokken than other gens.

I think many people will hype for Meowth if he somehow gets in... and people will say they didn't know they wanted Meowth until after they see it in action. Just like what people said about :4duckhunt:.

Meowth should get in with a basic claw-themed moveset, then have alternate costumes of other Pokemon with similar builds.
So Meowth, then Weavile and Sableye as alts. Everyone wins. :D
