A few things:

A; the banner change noted above isn't relevant. The black/clear banner seen in the image above was used as the most recent Nintendo direct. The special looking one shown above with Suzaku's castle was only shown at the end of the June dorect during a content lineup.
B; As far as I remember, the ESRB leak footage/images were similarly on a 3DS.
C; Very little footage from Smash3DS has been shown in recent directs, meaning the panned-out version in future directs may not have it. This was the case when Dream Land 64 was shown off, where it simply just showed the in-game screen.

I honestly would like to have Daisy and Waluigi, not one or the other, both. Daisy for the Mario sports rep, since it fits with her tomboy personality, and Waluigi as the Mario Party rep, cause in Mario Party you troll your friends all the time, and Waluigi is a massive troll.

SMRPG has merchandise and according to you, with like 5 reviews, "big companies" like it more. And because you don't see Paper Mario reviewed much, it instantly means it isn't as good as SMRPG. It's the first, right? So it's gotta be the one that's it. Marth wasn't the first Fire Emblem protag. Ephiriam was the first Fire Emblem protag, so where's he?

Geno is 3rd party. He gets barely any votes compared to Paper Mario or, pretty much anybody! He was in one game. Paper Mario has been in four that have, collectively, sold over 7 million copies.

Hopefully if Great Bay actually is chosen they have two other Melee stages too.
Like Fountain of Dreams and either Poke Floats, Brinstar Depths, or Fourside.

That being said: there's nothing standout here that screams fake. The banner/3DS footage is correct, Great Bay looks appropriate 3DS with some modifications, Toon Link's size looks correct in comparison to other character sizes on ported Melee stages, etc.

If it's a fake, it's the best done fake in a long time. Like I said, though. Looking through Brawl mods might give some answers if it's a fake.

SMRPG does not deserve more attention. It came out 20 years ago. It's not relevant. I have over 20 fan polls with Paper Mario top 10. Paper Mario is arguably MORE specialer then SMRPG; I can't think of any other game where you control a protagonist made out of paper, in a world of paper; and to top it off, an RPG.

There's a lot of returning stages from other franchises. Great Bay doesn't stand out more than the rest, so not really.

There's not a lot to choose from that wouldn't feel redundant.

Fourside, Brinstar Depths, Icicle Mountain, Saffron City, just to name a few. Also, Smashville and the other AC course are near identical. Being redundant doesn't bother Sakurai.

ESRB (Leaked all of the above characters plus Falco, Ness, Wario, Jigglypuff, Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B, and Ganondorf, as well as Mushroomy Kingdom, Corneria, Magicant, SNES Mute City, Gaur Plain, WarioWare Inc, Flat Zone 2, Pictochat 2, Distant Planet, and Gameboy Dream Land)

Actually I started taking a look, comparing it to the spirit tracks screen shot, a major inconsistency kills it for me, the f's on the great bay image extend into the 3ds screen, the spirit tracks screens leaves at least 1 pixel between the top of the letter and the bottom of the screen

Actually, this is huge evidence it's shopped.
He's got blue splotches around him like's been cropped out of, say Battlefield, and despite being mid-Spin Attack, there's no weapon trail.
Additionally, he has no real outline from what I can tell, even when viewed from that size, and his hat appears to be cut off (it's tip should be appearing next to his face)
I definitely call fake.
