I don't think Lucas counts as a clone

I still have other complaints about the game
Lucas is a semi-clone, even though he's almost completely unique. There are still a lot of conceptual similarities or attack proprieties. Not as cloney as the other semi-clones for sure. They share very few moves.

I forgot to mention Luigi, but that should be self-explanatory.

In most cases, those clone characters also play similarly in the original games. Marth, Lucina and Roy are all Lords, Luigi usually plays similar to Mario in the platformer games, Pit and Dark Pit play identically in KIU (gameplay is determined by the weapon), the gameplay of the Zelda series is more or less consistent, and so on.

And I also have my own negative criticisms towards the game. No game is perfect. Sakurai isn't perfect.

Clones just don't happen to be anything negative for me.

I absolutely love Smash 4's roster. At first the clones really bothered me, but I don't care anymore.

Somewhere out there on this big blue marble
:4bowserjr: Character I strongly dislike
:4darkpit: Character I like, but wasted potential because he's a clone
:4duckhunt: I literally threw up when this guy was leaked and it was legit, hate the campyness
:4greninja: Favourite pokemon, fun to play, though got nerfed to the point Greninja needs to be very precise
:4littlemac: Didn't care unlike the rest of the west
:4lucina: See Dark Pit, though instead of wasted potential, lack of difference bugs me. Great to laugh at Chrom with
:4megaman: I ran circles for an hour screaming
:4miif: Interesting, Brawlers are the only fun ones imo
:4palutena: Too awkward to play
:4pacman: Character I loathed, not really all too fun imo
:4robinf: Moar Chrom mockery, but surprisingly fun
:rosalina: Space waifu was to be expected, I'm somewhat decent with her
:4ryu: Surprisingly fun but difficult to play as, though input commands are awkward in Smash, I only ger Shoryuken right when I try to recover with Tatsu smh
:4shulk: Best character. fun, likeable, great playstyle
:4villagerf: Quirky in a good way, a bit too campy
:4wiifit: Odd choice, but in all honesty, needs major buffs

You know, I think its safe to say Brawl has the best additions in the roster
As far as big names go, I don't think most would disagree with you. Personally? I thought the majority of the Brawl newcomers were lack luster while I love almost all the Smash 4 newbies.

aww i just looked up the "tales of" custom set for mii swordfighter and its not allowed in competitive
for those interested
3-Burring blade (sword rain)
1-Airborne assault (tempest)
2-Skyward slash dash (tiger blade)
3-Power thrust (sonic thrust)

it should be interesting to note that having orange be your mii's favorite color makes the pirate costume look a lot like
guy cecil from tales of the abyss ....so ya know easy tales of character right there....his game was even on the 3ds

Geno hasn't had a major role in a game since 19 years ago and is a one-shot character. I don't think he will ever come back.
You know what's worse?
Two sports games could have easily had him and Mallow show up.
Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and Mario Sports Mix.

Why? Because Square-Enix made them.
But nope; just Final Fantasy guests and Slime.

Smash 4's newcomers had big third party characters as well as very unique gameplay styles added to the mix (with some overlap between the two, as especially shown with Mega Man and Ryu).
:4villager::4megaman::4pacman::4littlemac::4robinm::rosalina::4duckhunt::4ryu:

Melee and Brawl covered a lot of important and iconic Nintendo characters. Do you really think Smash 4's newcomer pool holds a candle to the addition of these guys?
:4peach::4bowser::4zelda::4ganondorf::4mewtwo::4metaknight::4wario::4dedede::4diddy::4olimar::4tlink::4charizard:

All this said, the three waves of additions all have their own merits.

Brawl honestly had the best additions by far. Honestly :4dedede::4diddy::4metaknight::4wario: all should've been in Melee, and :4myfriends::4lucario::4olimar::4sonic: were talked about consistently. Those 8 together are bigger gaps in Nintendo's history than most of Smash 4's cast.

On the bright side, we did get Ninja. Granted he's not Geno, but ninjas are cool too.
And really if we were getting them back I'd rather have them be in a bigger role than guest characters in a spin-off.

I'm a little late to this newcomer thing I guess:
Favorites: :4shulk: Gameplay and character wise, I love seeing representation to new series and he brought Xenoblade music with him, he's also my main, so I guess that tells enough of how I feel gameplay wise about him
:4greninja: Water/Dark Ninja Frog Pokemon, as my starter in XY, of course I would love to see him/her(I better put this, some people are sensitive) in, he/she plays and feels great but who the hell here was comparing him/her with Lucario?
:4robinm::4robinf: Chromblock brought back all the hype that Gemtasu had destroyed, not only that, but their moveset incorporates almost everything the lords didn't

Most hated: :4palutena: She's honestly the only one I hate, first because I honestly don't feel like KI is that important to Nintendo as a whole with only 3 games, she doesn't have any of her personality from Uprising and her moveset doesn't even fit her while the few moves that do are just annoying(**** U-Smash)
But hey, opinions, I guess

Strangely enough Brawl got the most amount of Newcomers to the series.
:4mario::4luigi::4dk::4link::4samus::4yoshi::4kirby::4fox::4pikachu::4jigglypuff::4falcon::4ness:
:4peach::4bowser::4drmario::4zelda::4sheik::4ganondorf::younglinkmelee::4falco::4mewtwo::pichumelee::popo::4marth::4feroy::4gaw:
:4wario::4diddy::4tlink::4zss::4metaknight::4dedede::wolf::squirtle::ivysaur::4charizard::4lucario::4lucas::4myfriends::4pit::4olimar::4rob::4sonic::snake:
:rosalina::4bowserjr::4greninja::4robinf::4lucina::4palutena::4darkpit::4villager::4wiifit::4littlemac::4shulk::4duckhunt::4mii::4pacman::4megaman:/:4ryu:/
:4alph::4larry::4roy::4wendy::4iggy::4morton::4lemmy::4ludwig:
The reason I have Ryu separated is because DLC will most likely bump Smash 4's Newcomers above Brawl's Newcomers.
And Alph and the Koopalings are alts but are still different in aesthetics.
Of Course when you actually look at the newcomers, Brawl covered a much bigger scope in terms of the original 12.
The only ones without are Yoshi (which is basically Mario) and F-Zero.
Smash 4 on the other hand covered more new series with a total of 8 new being repped (More to come if Isaac and the likes show up) as opposed to brawl which only added 5.
Brawl's Roster automatically wins for me because I grew up with it. It's my personal Bias.
But what Smash 4 brought to the table in terms of new series and reps. I can't deny that quality of it's newcomers. And just like Brawl each one is great.

The Miis should count as three separate characters. Including Ryu, that measn Smash 4 now has the same number of newcomers as Brawl.

Favorite Newcomer: :4shulk: muh main, muh pal. I bought Xenoblade before I even knew he was confirmed, just in case his trailer had spoilers, and i certainly don't regret it. Easily one of the best games i've ever played and Shulk is easily one of the most likeable characters in any game i've played. Plus, i'm glad i did because of all those spoilery trophies...He brought with him so many fun tools, like his arts/stance change type gameplay, great music, and great memes.

Cop-out Least Favorite::4mii: I just don't like them. Their customization is cool i suppose, but the fact that you can't use them online in For Glory makes them feel like a waste of potential. They're not even on my CSS because i don't ever play as them.

Least Favorite: :rosalina: A few reasons why- before the game came out, i didn't like her because i was rooting for :4bowserjr:. Once he was revealed, then i didn't mind that she was also around for the ride. Once the game came out, however, I didn't like her even more- she's annoying to fight. Luma has too much health and it respawns too fast. There's not enough of a window where she's vulnerable. Her attacks have too much priority and she has stupid range when Luma's around. If Luma had less health and took around 20 or 30 (that's a stretch) seconds to respawn, it'd give her some real counterplay and maybe i wouldn't despise her as much.

Apparently, someone translated the latest Famitsu column with Sakurai and its apparently about Sakurai's thoughts on Iwata's passing.

"My mind went white and even now the reality hasn’t sunk in"
Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai has used his column in Weekly Famitsu to pay tribute to his former superior at HAL Laboratory, Satoru Iwata.
Iwata passed away recently after a long battle with cancer, and Sakurai says that after hearing the sad news his "mind went white and even now the reality hasn't sunk in".
Iwata interviewed Sakurai when he applied to join HAL, and Sakurai summed him up as "the best superior I ever had and a man who understood me better than anyone."
Sakurai then covered Iwata's personality in the following five ways:
He was a man of virtue. Where a normal person would get annoyed or angry, he would never show such emotions and would instead analyze, organize, and offer ideas. He was someone who could bow his head and apologize for things that weren't his fault. I often worried about his stress levels, but he always talked with a smile.
He had a brilliant mind. Even when people would talk at length or without focus he was able to quickly say, "so, what you're trying to say is..." and quickly summarize their point. He was able to see to the heart of people and things and was a master of simplifying them so that anyone could understand their point. He could immediately make a call on changes to improve. I have no doubt that many people were saved by this quality.
He was a man of effort. Even though he didn't start out in the managing field, he read numerous management books, he would ask for advice from the necessary people that he would take to heart, and managed to become the president of Nintendo. What he gained from his years as a programmer allowed him to take many long-term projects to successful fruition.
He was open and generous. Things like his Iwata Asks, and Nintendo Direct weren't things that necessarily required the president of Nintendo to stand at the front and do. There was always the risk of frivolous criticism. And yet, by being the spokesperson, I believe he showed the importance of properly conveying a message to his audience.
He was empathetic. After he became the president of Nintendo, he would write emails to all employees to communicate and as hard as it was, took a stance to try to treat everyone as equals. He would often ask third parties to see how people were doing. As an individual, he had no self-righteous qualities.
He also spoke about the last time he saw Iwata:
It was this past January. I had dinner with Mr. Iwata at a Tokyo hotel and then drove him to Narita International Airport for a business trip to Seattle. He was still very healthy after his surgery and happily said, 'I've recovered enough that I can eat this much meat!' During the drive, we talked and laughed about many things.
Sakurai ends the column by stating that ever since he left HAL and started his own company, his work has been aided by the mutual respect he and Iwata shared. He concludes by saying that with Iwata's passing, he is unsure what might happen next. One would hope that the working relationship between Sakurai and Nintendo can be maintained, but it's understandable that the developer might feel a little lost without his former mentor. The entire gaming world has lost a leading light.

That was actually the whole point of the argument. The argument we're talking about was actually with me and a Geno supporter (who actually frequents this topic).

I brought up the fact that Geno failed to return in every Mario game made by Square Enix in recent years.

The guy I was arguing with responded by saying that Geno is too important for his return to be wasted on sports games or party games (Fortune Street).

It all went down here: http://smashboards.com/threads/name-any-dumb-character-request-for-smash.390926/page-4

I would say I'm stunned that he knows jack about arguing, but at the same time, he's a 14 year old, AND YET I've seen and regularly talk to better speaking 14 year olds(and a 13 year old) on this very site.

So...whatever, I guess. Epitome of the term fanboy.

I love how Geno is pretty much considered irrelevant at this point, yet every time I see him mentioned here it sparks two page arguments.

That's what happen when you have 7 people try to argue with one guy and that one guy is probably 15.

That and he's the one character who in the position of being a third party character who first appeared in a first party game as his one and only game.

I'm poor! I can't afford to buy Famitsu magazines. I asked my friend to send me the column to see if anything was missed.

Sadly, I'm not kidding.

How screwed up is the Japanese economy for you to be broke? You have decent to English so you'll easily have a job that pays well.

Or are you on that Japanese minimum wage?

So how's it going?
Nothing. Just waiting for more news
