Because Metroid lacks representation and he is the most important character after Samus and maybe, the Metroids. Ridley has a lot of potential and he is a space alien dragon, that's cool.

Actually no, Roy "deserves" his spot more then Chrom completely, if we look at what his game did for the Fire Emblem series.

His game was the game in the series on handheld console. His game brought FE into the modern gaming world, streamlined a lot from previous titles and introduced support conversations to FE.

So honestly speaking Roy "deserve" his spot completely. Yeah sure Chrom is in the game that saved the series, but its arguable if he's really the main character, since he share the spotlight with Robin.

It's due to his meme status of his size and his situation in Brawl and Smash 4.

Plus he's the only viable rep for Metroid that isn't any other variation of Samus

We already have both Robin and Lucina from Awakening. Why not more from other FE games?

Roy has never been big outside of Smash, the only reason he was ever added to Melee is because his game was about to be released.
Chrom is the main protagonist of the game that saved the series, while it could be argued that its thanks to Roy and Marth that we even have FE games outside of Japan, ignoring Smash, Chrom has everything Roy doesn't.
Also, I keep hearing from everyone that played Roy's game that he's a very boring and uninteresting character

Being a re-occurring character doesn't automatically make you smash viable.

Maybe wait until she actually becomes more than just the Fire Emblem equivalent of Impa and Cid before declaring her to be a must-have character for Smash.

I don't get this argument at all, Link and Zelda are always changing each game, the only thing that stays the same are their names, we have so many Link we already had 3 variations.
The Pokemon that appear in each game are all different(duh), ditto for Yoshi.
Even if you say that's because Impa's appearence changes everytime, it's still not fair to compare to Anna who has a consistent look, she's also not just a recurring character, but THE most recurring character, something that's barely done in FE

Because he's such a contrast to other Nintendo villains. "I want to rule the world!" "I want to marry a princess!" "I don't have a goal but I'm essentially a terrorist that kills for fun!"

now it's just because he is a freaking space dragon from a series I have grown to love and that alone is enough for me,

7 8 11. 7's only flaw is how long it takes to do supports if you ask most fans, 8 has a world map and grinding, and 11 is Marth's game remade...But it's not that good to other games in comparison. Killer soundtrack though

In terms of story for most Zelda games, if your going for a minimalist run, most of the time Tingle is not required to interact with. Just like how Anna is not required to be interacted with either.

So the Anna comparison does actually work quiet well.

Did you mean to say Impa instead of Tingle that second time?

Either way Hyrule Historia still made the backstories of Zelda 1 and 2 canon, so Impa still remains important to the story of those 2 games.

Yeah Anna is playable in the latest games, but her role is still very small and you can choose not to recruit her. So her role in those games are more lie Tingle's role in Wind Waker, which is of relatively minor importance.
