Some others I think have a decent chance:

Dixie Kong:

+Was planned to be playable in Brawl in some fashion.
+Covers the relevancy issues Rool has.
+Would satisfy most fans clamoring for more Donkey Kong representation.
-May not have a particularly unique moveset.
-Not especially popular.

Rayman:

+Most likely carries a lack of any licensing issues since his trophy is in the game.
+Unique moveset potential.
+Relevant, popular, etc.
+Has the least issues to being added among any potential third party candidates.
-May not have been seen as a good candidate since Nintendo only used his trophy.

Captain Toad:

+The concept of a playable Toad has been a popular one for nearly 15 years.
+Distinguished from regular Toad.
-While popular, he's far from the most well known or wanted Mario character.
-Moveset implementation may be difficult.

Speaking of stages, I'd like to point out, that, so far, my prediction about DLC stage being for both versions, rather than one, being completely correct.
Is there any DLC that is specific to one version so far? I don't think there is.
Just Miiverse, but that was free. I wish the 3DS version got a single free course as well(something simple, of course).

Dixie Kong is plenty popular.

She's more popular than K. Rool outside of the Smash fanbase.

K. Rool's fan are just vocal and loud.

But the Smash fanbase matters a lot when it comes to the ballot.

While true. I don't think that should be something against Dixie.

She'd probably sell better than K. Rool would, simply because it's harder to sell a character who isn't in modern games as DLC.

Nostalgia can only get you so far.

K. Rool vs Dixie in SSB4 reminds me a lot of Wolf vs Krystal in Brawl.
Only difference here is both are equally beloved in the franchise, one is just more nostalgia, the other is from still being used in games and merchandise.

No one is really the Krystal in this scenario as no one is divided on either character as much as Star Fox fans can be divided on Krystal.

How about a "Banana-Set" including Dixie, K. Rool and a DK stage and AiAi from Monkey Ball?
":troll:" from "and AiAi" to "Monkey Ball"

In regards to their Smash supporters, yeah, they are pretty comparable to K. Rool and Dixie.

K. Rool supporters are like the Krystal ones. They're loud and have a major presence in the community. Dixie supporters are like the Wolf ones. They're quieter and less visible, but are more or less just as big in size.

Keep in mind that I'm talking pre-Brawl. Krystal was pretty huge in the Smash community at the time. She's one of those characters who's popularity dropped massively in the transition from Brawl to SSB4.

See I don't think it's fair to call Dixie ''Krystal" in this scenario.

K. Rool's Krystal. He's the one with the uphill battle.

Winning the poll won't help him.

It could, but it's very possible Nintendo and Sakurai will simply over look him because of him not being in use.

Who knows if they even ever intend to use him again in a greater capacity than spin-off fodder (which was his last use), which is no better than Daisy/Waluigi.

I don't think it's the "uphill battle" so much as it is the "loudness", for a lack of a better word.

Krystal was actually, at one time, viewed as confirmed for Brawl by her supporters after her voice actress let slip in a radio interview that she worked on Brawl.

I remember that and I don't ever remember understanding why people thought that. Could've easily been SF codecs for Lylat Cruise or an AT.

Here's my theory,
What I don't get is how they expect people to stay hyped for Smash Bros without a new character to look forward to? I honestly hope they just announce a character (preferably Wolf) Maybe towards the end of this month/beginning of July, since people should have calmed down from the Ryu/Roy/Lucas hype by then, and people get excited for someone else. Otherwise people will get bored in July.

I just realized that this last DLC release included opened the door to themed third party mii costume releases.

This time if was fighting games..... what are the chances we might see some Capcom and Sega Brawlers represented?

The original Final Fight trio

or

The original Streets of Rage crew

would be amazing.

I remember this, yeah.

Though I remember Leon from Resident Evil's voice actor was also a thing during Brawl times? So everyone thought Leon was coming too.

It's the same fandom that thought a shot of Ridley's shadow hovering during a boss battle demonstration meant he was a playable character.

It's not hard to see why they'd jump to that conclusion.

They did announce stuff that hasn't been released yet in Sunday's stream. Smash is about more than just characters. We already know there's more characters coming eventually, anyway.

We weren't even supposed to know about Roy and Ryu until the day they were released. Lucas and Lucas alone was supposed to be what kept us hyped for the past two months.

Honestly we really should have both dixie and krool.

They're both awesome enough to get in :p

Although i prefer the one with hair.

His ball mechanics in the games don't translate well into a Smash moveset.
I wouldnt be so sure. We've been given a few surprising movesets before.

The lack of a DK newcomer is actually my second biggest beef with the Smash 4 roster after Wolf's cut.

I prefer K. Rool, but I think we should've had Dixie on the base game's roster (I feel her relevance makes her a more viable candidate for Nintendo to pick), and K. Rool as ballot DLC.

Though Lucas was a character, in terms of hype it goes like this,
Characters>>Stages>Modes(depends on mode)>Mii costumes. The only paid DLC we have to look forward to is the 2 N64 stages, which are cool, but not as exciting as a new character. Tourney is free so you get that. Its obvious they're working on a character, but it'd be nice to know who.

The difference between Krystal/Wolf and K.Rool/Dixie, is that niether K.Rool or Dixie have a sizeable hate base.

Krystal had a huge and vocal fan base, but she also had some super loud detractors.

Yes. All my yes.

We sort of know the characters but we don't want to jump to conclusions. Especially considering one of those characters is a veteran that most fans miss.

Even then, just keep the speculation rolling until August when the update for Tourney/YouTube/2 N64 stages comes out.

Plus I want more stages than characters IMO. Seriously we need Melee Great Bat, Yoshi's Story, Pokemon Stadium and Big Blue back. And also Brawl's New Pork City

Krystal is one of the most polarizing Nintendo characters, period.

Most of the others are either unanimously loved or unanimously hated.

Krystal has people on both extremes.

The only comparable character is Ridley, although in his case it's not really "haters" even if Ridley supporters will label them as such. It's mostly those that think Ridley works well as a playable character, and those that think he is better suited for another role. It really doesn't have as much to do with people liking the character or not like it is with Krystal.

I'm struggling to think who even comes close to be polarizing the Nintendo fanbase as much as Krystal.

Daisy, has a hate base somewhat, but I don't think that's all together serious and mostly comes from ''HI, I'M DAISY!" syndrome.

I meant within Nintendo as a whole, not in regard to Smash support. Krystal doesn't really fit the bill in the confides of Smash, anymore, since her support is nowhere near the level it was before Brawl.

Ridley is the definitive example for Smash, though, especially pre-SSB4. Outside of it, not really, he's pretty much unanimously liked outside of Smash debates.

At the same time, though, there's a lot of troll Daisy fans. The GameFAQs Smash board was full of them.

Tingle maybe?

Reddit did more smash polls
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1XZ...QlnTj6rU/viewanalytics#start=publishanalytics
Nothing new but still good to know who people are voting for
Hilarious that Roy is everyone's favorite. 43.9% of those voted said that Roy was there favorite of the 4 DLC characters to play as. Ryu was second with 24%.

To think that most of the vocal posters I've seen in Smash related forums thought he would be a waste.

I have a question regarding the Smash Ballot Website. Has anyone been able to go through the script of the website and find anything interesting?

I think if Roy had been brought back as he was in Melee it would have been a waste.
But now they've turned Roy into something completely different from the one in Fire Emblem. He's basically a new character, like Captain Falcon or Fox.

iconic isn't it
Yes, I'd say hating on characters is quite "iconic" for Smash fans.

Technically Tingle and originally :4bowserjr:. And he still gets crap but people ignore it for the sole fact he brought along the Koopalings who has been getting hell for the past 3 years

I was opposed to Roy returning when the leak first surfaced.

After actually seeing his new look and hearing that he got Luigified, I'm cool with it. Still probably wouldn't have been on my wants list (At least not this early in Smash DLC's run), but I at the very least don't think he's a waste anymore.
