Apparently the direct has been leaked since a few months ago.
https://archive.moe/v/thread/298658471/#298664391
I dont think it was a single post, instead the poster is collecting a bunch of random "leaks".

Multiple things, for those interested:
....

Also, in response to @ PushDustIn PushDustIn -
I don't disagree with you that it's something we shouldn't be surprised with happening. It's just like how everyone for Brawl didn't like the idea of the 35-character roster leak, expected more and then was disappointed. I just personally don't see how they can just jump ship to the next one so quick, unless they port Smash 4 over to the NX. If the NX comes out in 2017, I don't expect a new Smash game until 2019, simply because Sm4sh simply needs a longer life than that. It's huge, in terms of content and hype. Brawl was released in 2008, but development for this game didn't start until 2012, with it's release in 2014. Brawl was out for 6 years before the next follow-up. Even a 2019 release is only 5 for Smash 4.

In my opinion, it makes complete sense to support it up until Q1 2016, because of what you mentioned about DLC development not starting until after release. Mewtwo and wave 1 of DLC weren't available until April, which is a full 5-6 months after the release of the game. They presumably worked on all of this content during that time, and it's obvious that they're still working on more. Someone else pointed out this earlier, but both of the other 64 stages that are coming look essentially completed. Sakurai announced that and the YouTube uploads and Tourney mode coming in August. It's a safe assumption that they likely already have almost everything they're releasing that month either planned, finished, or in development.

At the very least, I think we could get something every two months this year, which is how long it seems to take them to develop a character or two, which gives us August, October and December. If we look at the total development time of the game (~2 years) where they made 51 characters, and many single player modes, trophies, etc., and they've been developing the DLC for 6 months now(albeit with an unknown amount of decrease in the team size), I don't think it's unreasonable to expect more than 5 characters in the future.

Now that I'm thinking it all out, I think my most likely theory is that the remaining 2 of the 5 "Mario" slots will be part of another big DLC pack in August.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm of the theory that the Smash game for the NX will be Sm4sh + DLC, and that they'll continue to make DLC because of that. If they decide to go with making a whole new game for the NX, then I agree, they'll stop supporting this game with post-launch content this year. I could see one final big DLC pack as a wave 3 in August, then minimalist "packs" in October and December based off the ballot.
Until the number of "Mario slots" is increased, I see no reason to expect DLC after the two that we are presumably getting.

Honestly, I'm expecting more information on either Ryu/Roy/Lucas and perhaps additional information about the upcoming DLC in Sakurai's column sometime in the next month. I can't wait to read it/ translate it for you guys!

I believe it was @ Burb Burb that stated the states look essentially finished. But in reality, we have no idea as modeling and hit detection are on aspects of stages in Smash. Afterwards, item spawning needs to be coded and tested for a variety of modes, and they need to be added to single player/ online. Anyway, they definitely have the majority of progress done with them.

I just think we've already received a ton of content. The roster size in Smash 4 is unprecedented for the series. Adding characters is difficult. It's not like they can just add a character haphazardly-- MUGEN style. They need to properly test, and balance it against every other fighter. Therefore, with every fighter they add, it exponentially creates more work for testers. In addition Smash isn't just a straight forward fighter. There's a lot of ways you can play it, so they need to ensure that the character works well in a variety kinds of play, or is properly balanced for a certain style/ weak for others.

I want to see more content. I'm not against new content. I just think expecting Sakurai to pull off a miracle and create 4+ additional characters, when he's already worked on the game for so long and DLC development is not as big as normal development. We have no idea how small the team is, or if the main team that worked on Smash is still even around (they might have been replaced by some junior members in some cases). So therefore, I think it is a bit unreasonable to expect more than 5 characters. Again, I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised but considering the development of Smash, and the data we have from data dumps I'm not expecting a lot.

Side note, there's NO WAY that they would release Ice Climbers for free. Yes, Sakurai said they worked on them during development but had to be cut. But creating them post-launch is still work, and Nintendo's not working on this DLC, for free :p.

They might wait for the next Smash Brothers, as you have suggested, but either way I have a feeling that we shouldn't expect A LOT of additional content after the next round of DLC in August.

Hmm, I'd still like to know about the surprise Nintendo game tomorrow. It could be legit and something worth checking out.

And I'm not sure what to make of that leak...they were lucky guesses (save for maybe the Dragon Quest thing) but part of me actually wants the rest to happen. I'm so confused right now

All that's left to do is wait for the next direct.

Like that part in Elf where the Elves celebrate their work then Santa comes in and declare, now it's time to prepare for next Christmas!

Whenever the next Direct is, I just hope it's better than the Digital Event.

The good is that if the next direct starts with the fire slash we won't even know who it's for! :D

I think Nintendo's thing hurt so much not because it was bad but because there were so many minor mistakes that could have been fixed.

Not passing Blast Ball off as a new IP the night before, explaining the WiiU AC game (the more they explained of HHDesigner the more I liked it, especially the outdoor stuff) and last of all, not ending ona game that had been done to death.

>tfw Nintendo doesn't say AC party game is free.

Come on man, that is so dumb....
Well? What else were they going to put in to replace the Mario music video? Or all the necessary feel details on games we now?
...Info on games that we should probably know of? Are you out of your mind?!

Funny how it's only after Roy took off that all this Pichu love comes out. All the same, I'm all for Pika-clones of any sort. Going to have to make an avatar for 'im sooner or later.

True, but it's worth noting that they also have a bunch of titles listed as "Unannounced." We'll see.

To answer your question, they could be free since they were originally planned. Or they could be at a discounted price.
I could see a discounted price if it happens, and true.
Pokémon Super Mystery dungeon is an instant buy for me.
I generally laughed when the town chased Treeko.
It's bringing my childhood wonder back to Me :'3

I imagine they would be free.
People would really ***** if something that got cut was now made to be paid for.
Very true which is why i brought up that question.

Speaking of which.....

I remember people in this topic calling Blast Ball a Metroid game jokingly during the Nintendo World Championship. It's bit funny in hindsight that it ended up actually being a Metroid game.

I'm not sure why people think that Pichu support is just now sprouting up... it's definitely exsited ever since Brawl. I've always loved Pichu, at least. I suppose now that Roy is back, we're just being a bit more vocal about it? I don't know.

But there's a good reason, since Pichu is the most sense-making veteran after Wolf.

-Ice Climbers have issues on the 3DS
-Toon Link is essentially Young Link
-Konami is having issues, probably hinders Snake
-Squirtle and Ivysaur seem awkward to have by themselves when compared to Charizard

Also Pichu represents baby Pokémon, represents generation 2, and gives a clone to the biggest franchise in Smash that doesn't have one. Pichu has a unique mechanic as well that will give it more benefits with the introduction of rage. Not to mention with Roy's changes, Pichu could possibly be altered as well. Also Pichu is flipping adorable.

So yes. Vote Pichu. :pichumelee:

The metroid references are clear. I wouldnt be surprised if this was next level game's metroid.
the hud looks like her helmet and the side dash and charge shot are obvious.
I was at least close.

Ive said it before ill say it again. Nintendo's e3 would have been so much better if they spent more time on the new games like metroid, yokau watch and AC and less on mario maker and yarn yoshi.

There would be so much less hate if they just said things they said in the treehouse during the presentation instead.

because i have an irrational hate for pikachu ever since i was a child

For the record, I know he's had supporters, and I know you've been one of them; I'm not the most vocal, but I've definitely been in favor of him for some time myself. I just sense a bunch of bandwagoning that might not have sprung up were it not for how Roy was treated. (For that matter, I would've taken Roy in any form because he was fun in Melee, but goodness did they deliver! I may end up liking him more than Lucas!)

Pichu support has been nothing new. There has always been fans, although not many, but they are somewhat vocal. It's just that after Mewtwo, Lucas and ESPECIALLY Roy are out, the Pichu fanbase is going to become more noticable. Pichu is also the only Melee missing veteran who isn't hold back by a character replacement or technical issues.

I'm just tired of clones as DLC. I'm tired of clones in general, the only necessary one we need back is Wolf. Pichu is unnecessary to me because what's the point? It doesn't matter about cloning Pikachu, we haven't got a Samus or DK clone for sale of giving a character a clone.

I need some more original movesets and I doubt Pichu is even a priority at this point. He's a relic with a small popularity just for being crap and taking that as an asset is to me stupid design.

thiss is the right way to look at the metroid thing
Man Johnny being rational makes me happy that all Metroid fans aren't that much of cry babies

I'll let you finish because as awesome as Samus and DK are? They aren't a mascot of the entire company like you know...Mario and Pikachu.

Mario has Luigi and Dr. Mario.

Why shouldn't Pikachu have somebody?
