You aren't forced to, unless you consider the fact that Arsene takes up a slot "forcing" you to get rid of him.

If I remember right, there's some special fusions Arsene can take part in, but those are New Game Plus, I think.

Only the Persona you have equipt gets exp unless the persona has the Growth skill

I think the idea is that when the Fusion tutorial pops up, the average player won't have enough Personas to not fuse Arsene, but it's actually possible to fuse two different Personas...

...Something like that.

In fact, I'm surprised you kept him for so long because he gets power crept fast and players usually are forced to fuse him in the tutorial.

Though I myself did make another Arsene later on just to have him.

I got him back and realized how awful his movepool was and used him as exp fodder.

To be honest, Arsene should have had a case of Magikarp Power. Have him have a sudden spike in stats and movepool around the level you would be in the Casino so you can actually use him in that dungeon.

Especially in a game that's simple enough.
