I finished the Emoji movie...but to save time and headache I put it on double speed. Thank goodness for the video speed up extension on Chrome. Anywho...
Overall it was....not as bad as I expected but I still think it's definitely below average. I expected it to be the worst movie I've ever seen, but I don't think it is that. Either way, it's still mostly weak. For every surprisingly decent joke, there's another 5 cringy or bland jokes following. I couldn't really enjoy any of the characters in the film, either. The concept has some intrigue to it, admittedly, but it's botched in the end because of the overly straightforward storytelling, mediocre characters, and mostly poor jokes.
It feels like a poor man's Wreck-It-Ralph 2, in that it has many pop culture references, but the execution in delivering such is much weaker.
My score for the film is a 3/10. Is occasionally watchable or even slightly enjoyable, but is all-around weak...which was to be expected.
Edit: Oh, and the worst line of the film is where it's mentioned that "emojis are the most important communication invention to exist" made me die inside. The script was pretty weak all-around, but every line is Oscar-nomination worthy compared to that single line. It makes me sad. The best way of communication is not emojis...it's good old-fashioned face to face conversation. /End Rant
