Fun stuff. I'm actually making better progress than I expected to, it's actually all pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. :p I could explain, but probably nobody cares and I'm working on compiling it into human-readable tables that nobody will look at anyway.

Well, in my television watching binging lately, I have finished Sherlock season 3. Here is my review...and I will get negative but I need to get this off my chest.

Ok, so they explained how Sherlock death is fake...and that I don't mind. I think it made the story very interesting and I overall like how they wrote it. However, I would've preferred they wait to reveal that Sherlock was alive in that he's revealed to be alive at the start of s3 than at the end of s2. It's a minor and nit-picky complaint, albeit. In any event, season 3 came me to realize that I have a few long running issues with the show, so let's get into the real reasons why I find myself having a ton of mixed feelings on the show:

1. The key characters are too large for their own good. Many of the characters, ESPECIALLY MORIARTY, are blown up to the point where they don't even feel like human characters anymore, let alone relatable characters. Sherlock is this crime-solving god of a man who simply can never fail at anything that he does, and Moriarty is this crazy mastermind genius who only appeared in a couple stories in Doyle's original writings. I like what Moffat was trying to go for, but this isn't Doctor Who...you can't have the main character be a perfect genius alien because Sherlock isn't an alien time travelling being genius who protects the universe as much as they can...Sherlock is a human character. With how *perfect* his intelligence is, it makes the character much less believable. With the main villain of the show in Moriarty, he's shown to be some sort of criminal mastermind, and with him infecting the mind of Sherlock...it's frustrating. They could've done much more with the character and had him last longer, but instead Moriarty is someone who was "crazy" and just wanted to watch Sherlock squirm...and in order to do that kills himself in season 2 and left an impact to the point where he's infecting Sherlock's memory? There's wasted opportunity for the Moriarty character. Moriarty was blown up into this crazy mastermind being...when really, all I see is a bargain bin version of Heath Ledger's Joker.

2. Watson needs more focus. He has MOMENTS where he's a well-written character, but rather than being larger than life like Sherlock and Moriarty...he's relegated to that one sidekick that can barely keep up with Sherlock mentally. Watson becomes smarter in season 3 which is nice to see, but there needs to be better balance between characters, and Watson's focus and character development can't match Sherlock's because Sherlock is king and the perfect crime solving being who's above and beyond everyone by a wide margin.

3. The melodrama doesn't jive with me well. This CAN work, but it doesn't fit the crime, mystery genre. I wanted to watch an engaging mystery thriller series...and instead it still feels more like a soap opera than a crime mystery thriller show. Drama in a series can certainly be good...but when drama becomes frustrating, it becomes melodrama...and Sherlock has melodrama. The characters aren't likable or relatable enough to count as drama, and thus falls into the melodrama category.

Footnote: I'm not looking forward to season 4. Even Sherlock fans have proclaimed their dislike of s4 and how it's a step down from the first 3 seasons.

Overall: I loved this show in season 1. It was going somewhere good and I was highly enjoying it. The first third of season 2 was enjoyable, but as I said before I was frustrated by the finale of season 2. Now I've watched season 3, and in itself season 3 wouldn't be bad...but season 3 shows so many meta problems with the show itself. Sherlock would've been better if it were a smaller, more compact show. Also, Sherlock being a high functioning sociopath I have no issues with...what I DO have issues with is that Sherlock is not a brilliant detective like he's meant to be...instead, he's got a perfect brain and is working in god-mode throughout the show. Even with the solid acting, and the solid story premises, and even how individual mysteries are good most of the time...the over-arching plot has storytelling issues that take me out of full immersion into the show. There are other smaller points about the show that I'm still wrestling through, but I don't want to delve into them because I believe it would be too nit-picky at this point, since I don't have my final thoughts finalized on such.

In any event, at the moment I'm giving Sherlock a 6/10. Started off well, but the frustrating things pile up into this one large pile of issues I can't ignore. Half of me still likes the show, while half of me definitely doesn't like the show anymore. Will give final thoughts on the product when I watch season 4.

Tbh the only black mark here for me is Sylux. He just sucks and Prime 4 has to do a lot to convince me he's anything near a decent character.

I guess the other character that I'd be meh on is Layton. But that's just because I never bothered with his games so to me, at face value, he's just a less interesting Phoenix Wright.

My bet is we see it this month in the direct if gamefreak has gotten with the times, if not next month. They like to have half a year to promote their games and I’m positive gen 8 is coming November. Any latter then February and it will be way to short of a time stretch. Sure black and white had a short stretch but ever since worldwide releases they like long prerelease cycles.
