BOTW is my recommendation. It’s fantastic and got game of the year for a reason

Edit: and yeah, I know that's how he does in the comics but if they were going to do that they should've made his story leading up to that in the previous season a lot better.

BotW and Odyssey are both amazing, Kirby is sort of meh. Personally I'd recommend BotW first.

tbf it happened in the comics (granted they've diverted from them a fair bit (Edit: Nice ninja edit there lol)) but yeah, the show's execution (heh) of his death was some of the worst writing I've seen. Dumpster fake out, ambiguous season finale death and actually revealed who died the season after.

I got like 100 hours into BotW and stopped playing Odyssey in the second area because the game felt boring to play and kept insulting my intelligence during the dialog.

But obviously the real answer here is to forget his backlog and buy Splatoon 2 and a copy of Octo Expansion.

Splatoon 2 is one of my games that I am "considering for the future".

BOTW it is. I plan to get the DLC soon, so that is better.

The catch is that the character you chose MUST be an Echo of an existing character from SSBU. Which character are they an echo of? Don't worry about if they're of the same series, etc..

The reason I asked this last is so nobody cheated and chose easy echo characters.

Super late but whatever:
Hmm... Well, that's easy, the Protector needs a sword and shield and the literal only character(s) with those are Link and his clones. I guess simply taking Smash 4 Link and bam(if not avaible, just make Young Link taller), there you have it. The sword fighting style is close enough to what I imagine, the Bow can be excused with subclassing/grimoires though the bomb would be weird. The main difference between them would be a bigger shield, meaning it could block more attacks. In terms of stats, make her slower but heavier since Protector is a defensive class after all.

Considering the fact that I've put like 1100 hours into Skyrim, apparently I'm just a sucker for open world games.

But the cell shading is nice though. It's a shame more games don't use it. You could say "cell-shaded *insert franchise here*" and nine times out of ten I'd perk up.

Also the glowing mountain is an actual successful example of a game shooting for a mood and nailing it so hella props to BotW for that.

While I can agree that BotW is overrated in some ways, I feel Odyssey is much more overrated.

And regardless of that, BotW objectively deserved GOTY more than Odyssey. Odyssey came out at the end of the year and even throughout the year beforehand, it wasn't talked about too much.

BotW is a game people had been talking about for years and continued talking about for the year after it came out. That's the definition of perfect GOTY material right there.
