Yeah I've already seen people make harsh, irrational judgements on the game already.

Ended up debating with HMK on it, never thought I'd see the day, lol.

But you get used to it I guess.

This 3rd gameplay style does worry me a bit, but considering how stellar everything else looks, I think it'll be fine.

I'm going to make a bold prediction myself.

You're going to insist it does even when it gets glowing reviews from both fans and critics, because Sonic can't be good in your eyes for some strange reason.
Well even if it doesn't fail I'm not buying it. I have more important things to spend my money on.

Is there direct feed footage of Sanic Forces? Not sure if I want potato quality.

And a little bummed about Mania's delay but I'll live.

We don't.

But I think more clear gameplay is being shown off tomorrow. The press has already seen thirty minutes of gameplay.

Been like that for a while. That's one of many reasons I stopped playing his games.
You're free to do what you want, but I don't think you should let critics or the public influence your opinion like that. You should try the games out for their actual merits, not because of what people thoughtlessly say about them in passing.

If I get into Sonic, what game should I try first?

I didn't realise this before, but it looks like they managed to get the game running at 60 FPS. I would expect only the PC (high spec) version, and the PS4 version on a PS4 Pro, to run like that.

If I get into Sonic, what game should I try first?

Do you generally prefer 2D or 3D games?
Do you prefer linear level design or something more open-ended?
Do you prefer story/character driven games, or something more minimalistic or humour/gag focused?

I could probably point you in a good direction if I know these three things.

If you can, try to play Sonic 3 and Knuckles as it's THE classic Sonic for a lot people. If you want a more modern game, Generations and the Rush games are good too.

Sonic 2, Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Rush, and Sonic Colours (either DS or Wii) sound like your kind of thing as far as Sonic games go. Most of the classic/handheld games are minimalistic in terms of story/character interaction, but Sonic Colours is a gagfest.

Sonic Generations also sounds like your kind of thing, but I think it's best experienced with a few Sonic games already under your belt.

Sonic 1 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles have more open-ended level design but your goal is still to get from point A to point B, you just have loads of paths you can take.

Does having 2D sprites count and not actually having platforming? If so, try Sonic Battle. It's linear as hell, lots of gags and humor, and actually doesn't use polygon models for the characters. >.>

Play in this order if you want
Classic: Sonic 3 and knuckles, Sonic 2, Sonic CD, Sonic 1
Dreamcast: SA2, SA1
Modern: Sonic Colors,Sonic Generations,Sonic Unleashed
If you want to know more about his Smash Bros moveset origins:
Sonic the fighters and Sonic battle
If you want to test your limits
Try Sonic r and 06

Actually, this may be an odd choice.

But I think Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice is a good entry point.

Level design is linear enough, but there are secrets. Kinda like a Rayman game.

Decently fast, but not overbearing for first-timers.

Pretty easy difficulty.

Multiple playable characters with slightly different abilities.

Based on the TV show so it doesn't take itself seriously at all.

Has 3D graphics, but plays on a 2D plane.

Is there a way we could move the character speculation threads from the Smash 4 subfourm to the Smash Switch subfourm?

Just curious.
That was a possibility, but it was decided it would be better for new threads to just be made.

Makes things less awkward for the group, easier for mods, and just makes things more neat and tidy.

Fair enough.

Just waiting for someone to make a new Rayman thread, and if no one does maybe I can make it.

Sorry I'm late with the title change guys.

Anyway, can we appreciate how awesome it is that Super Mario Odyssey, Sonic Forces, and Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy are all coming out this year? :')

Kid Icarus Uprising's OST is amazing. I totally forgot just how utterly spectacular it is

Stacked year for fighting games

Stacked year for platformers

Every year is a stacked year for RPGs

Probably stacked for some other genre im forgetting about

As much as I like Adventure 1, it's dated as ****, and I don't simply mean the camera and controls.

I was watching the guys from Extra Credit play, and watching someone else's first time with the game makes me realize just how flawed it was. Just from the Hub Worlds not being all that clear about what you need to do and where you need to go, to how the game sorta just throws things at you and you're just expected to know what to do with it.

Like, really, how are you supposed to know that to get the light dash ability, you need to drop down into a manhole? I get that it wants you to explore, but there's really nothing hinting what you should be looking for.

Mobile gaming has it pretty stacked.

Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, Gen 2 in Pokemon GO, and Kingdom Hearts: Union Cross.

Tikal is your friend.

I mean I don't disagree with your general statement of it being dated, but I never had a problem finding my way around except for one or two instances.

Not to mention the Animal Crossing mobile title coming out this year.
