The only way this would have been better is if Wonderful 101 got a port revealed

Ah, a Nintendo Direct Mini, so nothing that big. Let's see:
-First game shown is World Ends with You Remixed.

Already I'm liking this.
-Pokken DX DLC with Aegislash up first and Blastoise coming up later.
Cool. Also, people can have their Charizard vs Blastoise matches.
-Kirby Star Allies
Still looks cool. I do want to get it at some point.
-Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition
Nice. Good for those who didn't get either the Wii U or 3DS version.
-Mario Tennis Aces with Story Mode
I might have to keep an eye on this just cause of the Story Mode. The Story modes were great in the GB games.
-Ys VIII
Cool.
-Mario Odyssey free update.
Cool.
-SNK Heroines
Okay. Not interested in SNK, but nice for those who are.
-DK for Mario & Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Nice.
-Payday 2 DLC
Not really interested in Payday, but good for those who are.
-Fe and Celeste
Cool.
-Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze with Funky Kong.
Very nice. The game was awesome, though not many got to experience it. With the Switch doing well, here's hoping the game also does well now. Also, Funky Kong does look rather fun to play, even if he is easy mode.
-Dark Souls Remastered.
Awesome! Dark Souls on the Go! And just a great game in general.

So all in all, not an entirely impressive Direct, but still, rather good. I mean, considering it was a Mini, I knew to keep my expectations low and expect nothing big and as such, it was simply a nice and good Direct.

Also, I got to simply laugh about some people complaining about the ports. Did you guys NOT ask for more ports from the Wii U to come for Switch? Cause I clearly remember about how everybody, including some of the whiners, were asking for more Wii U ports, ESPECIALLY Mario Maker, Hyrule Warriors, Wonderful 101 and Tropical Freeze. So what happens when Nintendo does what the fans asked for? "NOTHING BUT PORTS! WHY NINTENDO?!"

I think I calmed down from my reaction after the direct. I started thinking, and you guys are right, I should not be mad about ports being made to the Switch, this just means that more people gets to play the game, and that's always great.

The thing is... I do fear that having ports might lead us to not getting new games at all. I loved Tropical Freeze, and I would love a new DK game, that's why I was let down by the announcement, and why I was so angry about ports. Then I remembered Bayonetta, who is getting both 1 and 2 ported, plus is getting a brand new entry on the series. If that's how everything goes, then sure, make as many ports as you want. Just keep making new things, that's all I'm asking for, don't settle with just the port, follow Bayonetta's example.

I still think Nintendo shouldn't have overhyped a Direct Mini, but I guess it's also my fault for falling for it. So yeah, for a Direct Mini, I do think it was okay. I want as many titles as I can on the Switch, everyone ends up wining, there's no point in whining at this point. I look forward to a complete Nintendo Direct (not mini) full of new games, whenever that happens.

TFW you're the latest entry in a 30+ year old franchise, but people still think you're copying from franchises less than half the age of your own

:p
Now now. Don't take me for a complete fool.

upload_2018-1-11_12-15-57.png

Just a partial one. VIII slipped under my radar so this is my first look at it, but I was well aware the series exists.

It's still fair to say that those two would still be better known than Ys overall, at least in a western general public sense. Apparently VIII got a lot of love, though, so it's got my attention.

Only real question is whether I pull it for Switch or PS4. Mostly matters whether I think I'd play it mobile or not.

All I know about Ys VIII is that the soundtrack alone is doing a good job at convincing me to cop.

Never fear. This is normal. They'll come.

There's more than a few of those on the docket this year already, and I expect we'll get some more.

Well, for W101 there was that new art of it that hinted at a Switch port. Which also came with that Bayonetta art that people linked to a possible Switch port.

The latter (plus a sequel) ended up happening, would not be shocked to see it happening with 101.

DKTF was one of those games that needed a port anyway. A game like that on such a poor console would be like if Splatoon was stuck on a failed console like the Wii U.

Just like Super Mario Maker.

Desperate prediction, but still a prediction. There will be some other direct/reveal either by the end of the month or by early February to show off some more stuff. Maybe a game/series specific direct.

Not much to say about this mini-Direct. Of the titles revealed, Kirby Star Allies is the only game that interests me. I'm liking that new Artist ability, and some of the bosses look interesting. Now I just hope that Archer Kirby makes a return.

Pokken Tournament DX getting DLC? That caught me off-guard. Aegislash is one of my favorite Pokemon, so it's nice to see it made it in. Still wishing to see Gallade make it at some point (though at this rate, I have a feeling that won't happen until Pokken Tournament 2, whenever that comes out).

I didn't expect Hyrule Warriors to come to the Switch, but nice to see it did. Nice that that Link and Zelda's BotW costumes made it into the game. I only wonder if they'll add the Champions as DLC, as that would be the perfect to give BotW even more love in that game.

I've heard how meh the last Mario Tennis game was on the WiiU, so while I'm not sure if I'll be purchasing Mario Tennis Aces, I'm hoping Nintendo learned their lessons from the last game.

DKTF getting a port is a nice surprise, and so is the inclusion of Funky Kong. I guess this is the part where people say "Funky Kong for Smash?"

I will admit I was hoping for the reveal of the new Fire Emblem title in this Direct, but since it wasn't revealed today, I have a feeling it won't be revealed until the April Direct.

Personally I like to believe that Retro spent four years fine-tuning Funky Kong's addition to TF and little else.

It's kinda funny how Cranky Kong spawned all those git gud memes after a review (think it was Gamespot?) said TF was too hard.

Then years later they add an easy mode anyway.

Welp, I warned you all what would happen if you just laid down and accepted Nintendo's ****ty ports. Now we have almost nothing but ports for 2018. I knew it. I ****ing knew it.
I mean, sure there's a lot of ports. But the Wii-U sold like ****, so some of those games are basically getting a second chance, some of them, like Mario Kart 8, Pokken and Donkey Kong have new content that's Switch exclusive.

And it's only like mid January. Who's to say what else will be announced for this year. We still got Kirby, Yoshi and Mega Man 11 as far as I know. I don't think Bayo 3 is coming this year, but that, Pokemon and Metroid will be on the way too.

Still, it's less insulting than those Albino Kongs that could straight up beat the game for you.

Well, Funky's just continuing his tradition of dominating games since Mario Kart Wii.

Solid direct, especially with third-party support and DK:TF with Funky (Smash Bros. please). But I wish Nintendo would have at least given us an heads up prior.

Plus it's important to consider that the Wii U did horribly. I guaranteed you that DK: TF would have sold a few million had it been on a platform as successful at the Wii or Switch. So I can't blame them for porting over games to help buy time to make new installments. Meanwhile, they're relying on third-parties to carry the Switch over and while I don't expect many AAA titles, I do think 2018 is where it will receive more prominence, especially from Japan.

Calling it, but I think Mega Man 11 would not have happened without the Switch. The Wii U was a total failure and the bulk of Mega Man's audience are Nintendo fans first and foremost. Now that the switch is relevant, the console could inspire Japanese developers to revive other mid-tier IPs on the console. Castlevania immediately comes to mind.

Apparently, Valter's GHB is coming back on February 4th, with a 2-week gap between Oliver's GHB(ends in the 21st) and it. We'll hopefully get something in that period.
Ah, but ****, I want Valter so much, why can't he come sooner?

Speaking of which, Valter's Cursed Lance needs a refinement, Eldigan's sword mow has in built Fury 3 while Valter has Fury 0.5

Y'know, I just realized something. Why did they not call Artist Kirby Paint Kirby? Magic got a total revamp in Mouse Attack and Paint would have been in the same situation
Artist Kirby should have an afro instead so he looks like Bob Ross.

I got confused because I read that they released a Star Allies demo on the eShop, but it turns out I merely misread it and it's a demo for Battle Royale in the US (I already own the full game but I'm not big on what little I've played of it). Star Allies keeps on looking better and better whereas it seemed unpolished-ish at E3. The hype is real!

Also guys, I wouldn't put too much stock in that "Definitive Edition" label for Warriors. If you were hoping for a port with a focus on BotW because you loved that game, them not making the Champions playable kind of hints at a sequel or future DLC. Feels odd they didn't jump on the BotW hype train with this, but the skins we have on hand look sweet!

I was hoping for Pokken DLC, and Blastoise was always one of my favorites, so cool? Has the pass been priced by the way?

I think the world would implode if Funky Kong got in Smash before Dixie and King K. Rool. And it would be glorious.

I agree but I think we'll see some characters not in XIV though.

Like Flo from Metal Slug or Akari from Last Blade.

ALSO Miss X should definitely come back. It's not Gals Fighter without Miss X.

Funky Kong in smash would actually be pretty cool. Still prefer Dixie by a long shot, but who doesn't want a bazooka-wielding surfer bro and the best Mario Kart racer of all time?

And he's so cool!

So aside from all this talk about the mini-Direct, I want to briefly digress with some news about the Pokemon anime:

The newest CoroCoro issue has revealed Ash and co. will be getting new costumes upon becoming "Ultra Guardians" to protect Alola. You can see it in the scan below:

Another major detail the scan reveals is that Ash's Litten will evolve into Torracat during this part of the anime.

Tagging @GoldenYuiitusin since this reveal about Litten will probably excite you.

Can I just talk about something that I really liked during the Direct that I don't see getting discussed much?

That Donkey Kong trailer for Mario + Rabbids. Hearing the song transition into a triumphant version of the Donkey Kong theme honestly hit me pretty hard for one reason: the composer for Mario + Rabbids is Grant Kirkhope.

This is his first time composing things for DK since DK 64, so having that bombastic brassy version of the DK theme play has another, more sentimental layer. :)

There were multiple hints thanks to Torracat being featured in recent merch for the anime, but glad to see we have a true confirmation.
Same with Poipole.

Sad I missed the hype and the show :(.

So anyways, the mini direct was entertaining.
I know this is sad, but what if the Smash series is... over?

Then I'd suggest looking out your window towards the sky to see any flying pigs passing by because that ****s never gonna happen.

It's been less than two years since the last Smash content drop, people just need to chill. We used to have to go like six and seven years between Smash games. I'm still of the mind we'll see a Smash 4 port... now presumably at E3. Maybe it's tied to the online launch.

Thanks for the hope boost. I needed that to boost my ego. If Smash for Switch came then that would be a marvelous gift, but rip Smash 4. The only thing that would be more intense than Smash for Switch would be Half Life 3.

Well that snuck up on us.

Excited to see TWEWY come back, it kind of disappeared after that one port so it's nice it's getting another chance with a new side story on top of that. Same with Tropical Freeze and Dark Souls, both of which I didn't get a chance to play despite owning a Wii U for the latter, so it would be a good opportunity for me to pick them up. Pokken's DLC looks nice and I'm happy about Blastoise, but I'm still not on board with it. HW is in the same boat since while I didn't buy Legends or the DLC that came after it, I don't think the updates they revealed are quite enough to double dip yet. I think if they had some of the Champions like N3ON suggested it'd be a bit of a different story though.

Finally, the Mario + Rabbid DLC reminds me that I still haven't picked up that game yet. I want to get it since it looks like a great game, but my backlog is already stuffed with games like Hacker's Memory, MHW, and BotW, so I'm already have a good set of games to get through for the next few months, and that's not getting into finishing up some of the ones I already started like Skyrim and Mania.

MK8D was released before Pokken and is obviously more profitable, if there was any DLC planned for it, we would have heard something by now.
