Ok so here's a thought.

We all know what a MetroidVania game looks like. It's a 2D platforming-action game with elements of backtracking and exploration. But what does a 3D MetroidVania look like?

Obviously, there's the Prime series that is whole-heartedly a MetroidVania brought into the 3D space. But what about from there? From what I've gathered Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Arkham Asylum, and Bioshock 1 & 2 all seem like worth candidates. Anymore anyone can think of?

picked up xenoblade chronicles 2 today ehres my progress thus far
i am now just after getting poppi (and playing a few rounds of tiger tiger)
got a common blade from the tutorial
got three commons from the chest imediately behind the soldiers trying to recruit drivers
did some salvageing and got three common crystals
"okay i shouldnt expect anything from a common core crystal....huh boosters where'd i get these?"
*Gets elektra*
"oookay i doubt that will happen again it'd be funny if it di-"
*get boreas*
"im not dumb enough to want three rares in a row"
*gets a common guy names akatski*
"I KNEW IT!"

so ya im enjoying the game and out side of the traditional surprise rotbart havent really gotten killed
Yeah... that Rotbart took me a while to take it down...

Look, it's been going on for two weeks. That means it's overtaken the thread with long drawn out arguments that ultimately... are between you two.

Just take it to PM's, man. Or drop it. At this point, it's ridiculous.

Cutie Gwen Cutie Gwen Same to you too. Just bring it to PM's or drop it, please.
I already said that in my previous comment. So thanks for the reply but I already said it myself.
Nevertheless, since this is just a mere discussion on a video which can get along well, but I can see why to some extent. Because not to mention Gwen once again kept pinpoint an issue she once had in XCX and believe it is worse based on other people's opinion (And I never know the details on why...), and just being stubborn to it...

Darksiders 2 is pretty much a 3D Metroidvania.

You could also describe it as if Castlevania, Zelda and DMC had a baby but 3D Metroidvania is simpler.

So is Metroid Fusion.
Less so though.

In Fusion you still have to figure out where to go through a big maze, many places being off the map and having to be discovered.

Both Bioshocks and AA make you go through pathways to other locations.

I wish people wouldn’t talk any of the big things in the new DB Super episode so openly on Twitter.

Yes... I did way before I reach to Indol... I beat that stupid Confiscator Jimmy around level 50... yes I repeat... level 50... Blade linked monsters are really hard to deal with...
also...I REALLY HATE XC2'S UNIQUE MONSTER LOCATIONS...XC2 unique monster are not only so cheating... but also in some very BS places... just take this Confiscator Jimmy... his location is rugged and hard to move around, and it is possible it will attract other monsters easily...
It is still a bit of mystery on how some monsters resonate Blades, and it is unknown if the Blade controls the monster or the monster controls the Blade...
It was Nia having Dromarch, Electra and Agate
Rex having Pyra, Newt, and Perune
And Tora having Poppi alpha and Poppi QT...
Odd that I didn't beast it with Floren... his special II also heals a lot. (:starman:Praise the Venus Boy Trap!:starman:)
Yep, but before doing that you have to do Blade combos and break elemental orbs in order to get to the second chain....
I also use Nia for almost every time I fight unique monsters...
Dealing with this monster you better off have Tora as your main Tank... and do more chain combos asap... you don't need that much healer Blades since it will use heal nullify... which was really annoying...

Also like I said, doing Driver combos helps a lot to stop monster's attack, extending Blade combo cooldown, and get HP potions, so besides healing with Blades doing Driver combos can also save your life... like a lot

And oh yeah, doing chain attacks while almost dead can also be very risky, if you don't have any Blade that can heal while doing special arts... you are done for... it is better to save party gauge just in case... and also do as many special as you can in order to fill up party gauge quickly... also doing Blade combos and Driver combos at the same time also helps. You also need to know if you can break all elemental orbs... you must know which element counters which element...
Well, I feel better about myself now, lol. Since I beated him at level 45.

You are right on the location being a problem. Which is why I decided to move to a better place so that we could fight like real drivers.

I don't know, maybe they just do it by accident?

For me, my party consisted off:

Rex: Mythra/Pyra, Gorg and Roc

Nia: Dromarch, Adenine & Agate

Morag: Brighid, Wulfric & Vess

Though, while no.4 was able of heal. I don't remember her healing alot during the last fight. Maybe the final result wouldn't have changed that much if I had changed her place with Tora & Poppi.

Dromarch special II heal alot too, I was really happy when I saw my entire party was fully healed.

Yeah, I have still trouble to know which element can break which elemental orbs. Granted, I did break the only one I was able to got.(Which still almost killed the boss)

Potions honestly didn't help me alot, I don't know where they flyed, but I was never able to see them during the fight due to how big the boss is. So I had count on my auto-healing equipement and Nia to save me.

All around, this fight was quit frustrating, but once you have a elemental orbs and a chain attack to boot, this boss and his blade became a bunch of jokers.

I really don't want to be arrogant, but I kind of think you did it with a little bit of luck lol.... No.. Wait I literally mean you might equip items that upgrade your Luck.

You are right on the location being a problem. Which is why I decided to move to a better place so that we could fight like real drivers.
I mean hell there is one driver enemy in Mor Ardain at the old Bridge where it is very narrow and there is a level 85 bird around the area, so you can't even lurk him out either.
Funny thing is... I beat him by knocking him off the bridge... Yes, that actually count, but of course you don't get any rewards.
I don't know, maybe they just do it by accident?
Something tells me they might be intentional.
Rex: Mythra/Pyra, Gorg and Roc

Nia: Dromarch, Adenine & Agate
Gorg is for Nia, and Adenine is for other.
Though, while no.4 was able of heal. I don't remember her healing alot during the last fight. Maybe the final result wouldn't have changed that much if I had changed her place with Tora & Poppi.
The AI tend to focus on doing driver combo first, and then depending on the Blade combo chart and which type of Blade you are using. Sometimes you have to wait for them to charge, or if you have the element for the last Blade combo, sometimes... You have to do it yourself lol...

I always use Nia when battling against unique monster.

Dromarch special II heal alot too, I was really happy when I saw my entire party was fully healed.
This is why you have to look at every Blade's special art description and also their battle skills.

Besides Dromarch's special II... his special III and IV also heals... just drop HP potions. I also love Dromarch's special IV attack, the fact that Nia rides on Dromarch, he shoots aqua wave, and then Nia catches his weapon and does the final slash was just insane.
Vess special I also heals
So is Floren's special II Lilliam Dance
Boreas II and III special
Dahila's special III
Ursula's special II
and that's all I know so far.

Yeah, I have still trouble to know which element can break which elemental orbs. Granted, I did break the only one I was able to got.(Which still almost killed the boss)
I see, I remember I mention this back in my old combat tip...
You will notice sometimes some orbs blinks, this means you have a Blade that its element is opposite of that orb. Orbs need three hits in order to break.
Opposite elements can do two breaks, sometimes you have aware if any of your Blades can do opposite element orb break when doing chain attack. Or you must at least break one orb in order to do more chain attack, and you have to press B in order to recall the Blade you used and do special II attack, and then if do another round is special III.

Water<> Fire
Wind<>Ice
Earth<>Thunder
Dark<> Light

Go with opposite element orb first... and then it may be a gamble to choose which Blade you use until
So, if you can, the maximum orb is... eight... so this mean you can do at most 24 special attacks! But if you did not know yet, you can only do chain attack until you get full burst... and full burst is when every driver and Blade performs Special IV and it can do a hell lot of a damage!
You may also find element orb break Aux cores that once a Blade equip this Aux core, if the Blade hits the opposite element orb it will just break, sometimes it will even hit more than one orb, and this can rack up the element gauge.

So, I may have to recall my past review on XC2 battle system, the chain attack is a super huge improvement over the original, no need to mention XCX because there weren't any chain attacks.
Potions honestly didn't help me alot, I don't know where they flyed, but I was never able to see them during the fight due to how big the boss is. So I had count on my auto-healing equipement and Nia to save me.
Yeah, that's my grip on HP potions... but it seems that if you perfom the art it at the right timing it will have chance to get more than one HP potion and it will fly just nearby.
All around, this fight was quit frustrating, but once you have a elemental orbs and a chain attack to boot, this boss and his blade became a bunch of jokers.
Yes, but you must be excel at doing Blade combos too. You can't do the same element of Blade combo. And doing Blade combos can be really useful and fun.
But ya know what they say, you can't have a rainbow without Reyn some waters.

Nope, I didn't have any item that increased my luck. I just got gud and whooped his ass.

Heh, who know honestly? Monsters do what they want.

And as for the rest you said, don't worry, I know most of it. It's just hard to put it into practice ya know? Plus, as I said, the bossalways killed my party at half of his lifebar, when I had like 3 orbs or more. So, in the last fight with him, I had to use the only orb I had quickly before I died again. And like I said before, it worked. And for that, I think I know what I am doing, I put like 50 hours into this game after all.

Nah, Gorg is a JoJo character, did you see his pose?

Can you consider Dark Souls one? I played 3 on my friend's house but it didn't feel very Metroidvania-like, there's a sense of exploration in each are, sure, but they're mostly linear and segregated between each other. Unless the first two are more like it, DS doesn't seem like a Metroidvania game.

Arkham City is far from being a Metroidvania. I can't speak for Asylum, but City has an overworld that's just like any other overworld in action/adventure games with most of the levels taking place inside certain facilities. I really can't recall any Metroidvania-like stuff it has, outside maybe backtracking to use new items but that isn't exclusive to Metroidvanias.

To be real, you need to equip luck accessory in order to get a better chance to get rare Blades.

And as for the rest you said, don't worry, I know most of it. It's just hard to put it into practice ya know? I bet you also should know that every monster will go into rage mode when reach to a certain HP left, sometime you either brace yourselves for a possible big attack that is almost cheating, or they might heal themselves, which is great if you want to do more Blade combos.

When you have only 1 orb when doing chain attack, you basically don't need to care about element lol. Use the Blades that have the strongest attack.

Well, again, if you already know those then sorry... if you have anything stumped when playing Xenoblade 2 be sure to let me know, I mean I am over 180 hours as well... I think I play too much of this game.

I think as long as you play the main story, you don't really need to check guides or anything.

How goes it everyone :).
I watched the "Don't Hug me I'm Scared" series twice ( twelve episodes ).
I have to say, it was pretty creepy ( It is not for the faint of the heart . It also felt like scattered pieces revealed a big secret about the whole thing, even though it felt very random at times.
View attachment 134872
Would've gotten done sooner, but I was distracted.

View attachment 134873
If you do, I call dibs.

In other, other images I have on hand.
I will think of things you can draw...
Drawl a galactic overlord Pikachu, or draw Pikachu wearing a costume of your favorite video game character or anime character. Draw a scientist Pikachu. If that is too much to handle my bad; you can just chose one.

If it's not guaranted, then why bother when I can put better items on my team?

There is no way to help me anyway, the RNG god is the one who decide if I get a rare blade or not.

Though, I take this over being called Juju.

Pop Team Epic is the anime that'll save us from all this trash that comes out of Japan. It's basically if @alek poster made his own anime: an animated series of ****posts.
They even made a Chrono Trigger reference which is an automatic 10/10 in my book.

I'm picking up Rocksmith seriously again.

Let's see if it lasts more than a week this time.

I will think of things you can draw...
I don't typically run requests these days. Terrible at fulfilling them.

But I happen to have some of these on hand.

Tucking for courtesy:
Drawl a galactic overlord Pikachu
avi_darth_remaster.png

draw Pikachu wearing a costume of your favorite video game character
avi_twili.png

or anime character.

Draw a scientist Pikachu.
Oddly, that's a hole in my lineup.

Hmm. We shall see.

I just realized I haven't had water all year.

Well, in good news, according to the weather app I have, Thursday has got to be the day for these pipes to thaw, if they doesn't thaw before then.

The reason I asked about 3D MetroidVania games is specifically cause I had no idea. So don't take my thoughts as a fact. To respond.
Wait what?

Sure you travel to locations you've been to at times, but AA and Bioshock are both pretty linear.
They still have an overlying theme of exploration and openness without being open-world. That, and their Labyrinthian sense of a map was also a reason.
Darksiders 2 is pretty much a 3D Metroidvania.

You could also describe it as if Castlevania, Zelda and DMC had a baby but 3D Metroidvania is simpler.
Darksiders is a good one. I forgot about Darksiders.
I'm not too familiar with the games but isn't City a better example for a MetroidVania than Asylum?
City and Knight are much more of an open-world game, though. You don't really feel confined or have a Labyrinth to navigate in City.
Definitely. The whole game seems segmented and it is kind of but, especially Bloodborne, the paths loop around on each other and have shortcuts that lead to previous areas. The sense of exploration is there and you're still confined in a Labyrinth as per the norm of MetroidVania.
AGDQ's preshow is starting in just under 20 minutes with the first run, Crash Bandicoot 3, starting just 30 minutes after that
https://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick

Time to do nothing productive for a week.
Oh wait, that's every week.

Didn't they leave Super Metroid out this year? I think I'm good then. I usually only watch the Metroid ones anyways with certain exceptions. Are there any Metroid's this year?

Devilman Crybaby sucks so bad what the hell
I think ot might be on purpose but the awful art style and animation just turns me off and it feels like it's trying way too hard to be edgy
That's just how Devilman is.

The manga was pretty much all of this.

Finally watched the new Super episode. Takahashi is a ****ing god.

The best part was Dyspo dragging around Freiza by the tail. I guess Vegeta isn’t getting Ultra Instinct but maybe Super Saiyan Blue 2?

I think ot might be on purpose but the awful art style and animation just turns me off and it feels like it's trying way too hard to be edgy

MY FATHER DIED

In all seriousness, every Devilman fan I've known said it was edged up with sex scenes and that. Well, all except the edgelord who says "CHILDREN NEED TO SEE R RATED MOVIES TO GROW". Who I'm sure is an incel who doesn't realize that Akira and Ryo are super ****ing gay
