I think it is so rare--and, forgive me for using absurd, I mean it more like 'silly' than 'illogical'--most collectors, I'd say, don't get things for the sake of the box art as their sole object. I'd say the only scenario where the quality in question applies is if such a collector identifies as a "box art collector" first, before movie etc. collector.
Woah--I'm not trying to be condescending or patronizing. I ain't better or superior, I'm just another weak and frail human, prone to failure. Condescension is found in the object, rather than the perceptions of the subject, so if the object denies it then... I don't know if you trust me or not, but all I can do is insist such thoughts didn't enter my mind.
I assume you don't mean "you" as in me, but as in a person generally. :D
I still think it's silly to be legitimately angry at something you rightly say is so petty--but please don't take that personally, I think that it's silly to be angry at a great deal of things that people find they should take seriously.
In this case, it's because I don't think complaints are either justified or unjustified, they're morally neutral and so justice doesn't apply. What's not, though, is pettiness in general. About that, you'd be right to be concerned about them.
