My thoughts on the Pokemon Go update.
  • Cool, we can cusomize our trainers on the fly now.
What even was this update?
  • No step tracker
  • No Pokevision or similar tracking apps
  • No sign of any form of free tracking coming back
  • 100m scan range is now 70m
  • Cannot hunt for Pokemon without wondering around aimlessly
  • Experience bonus for Nice, Great, Excellent, and Curveballs removed
What the **** is wrong with Niantic? They've become worse than EA at this point. They're literally ruining the game by taking the point out of it. Like, there is literally nothing left to do at this point. You can't catch anything because once you hit Level 15-20 everything breaks out of the Pokeballs and runs away. You can't raise your starter and its only purpose is to be transferred for more candy. You can take a gym but there is no reason to hold it, not that it matters because you can't hold it for long anyways. You can't fill your Pokedex unless you live in a big city. If you want to find Pokemon, than you better Go sit at a lure because that's the only viable way to find Pokemon. Hatching eggs is barely worth it too because you can travel 2km and be lucky if 1.5k actually counts. You can't find any damn Pokemon because there is no way to know where they are and how close/how far you are in relation to them, and the only method to finding these Pokemon, being 3rd Party trackers that showed their location, was stripped away from us because 'hurr-durr but muh exploration", which is complete double standard because city-folk barely have to go anywhere because there are so many damn Pokestops while suburban/rural players have nothing for sometimes miles.

Like, do they even want people to play their game? Or was it just a "Get rich in one month" scheme?

People are really complaining about Pokemon Go's update.

It's not THAT bad.
Yes it is.

They took an already terrible game (I know people defend it for the social aspect but be honest, the game has way too any issues and bugs to be called a good game, from an objective standpoint), and decided to completely remove the one thing that gave it any semblance of being a real game (though even THAT was already broken). Not to mention all of the other stingy nerfs, making it harder for people who don't live in a big American city or something.

It isn't even a real game anymore. It's a glorified pedometer that wastes your battery.

Pokevision's shutdown made me quit the game. So I guess they don't.

As a gamer, I can't defend Pokémon Go. The game relies on social interaction for nearly all of its fun. It took out all the stuff that a hardcore player would enjoy and even things non hardcore players would enjoy. It's not that much fun. Plain and simple. It's broken.

As an up and coming coder I have to defend it. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards before taking any steps forward. You have to go back and take things out before you can hope to fix them. In code, the most minute problem in the very underbelly of the coding can cause more problems than anything else. So, them taking out those features is probably then trying to fix the step system. They need to narrow down the zone where the problem could be.

Except the CEO of the company has literally said that the radar is being taken out, and unofficial replacements are being stamped on, because "having them takes the fun out of the game and without them, there is more reason for players to explore".

And as someone who also has some insight in coding and game development, I still say this is all inexcusable. Doing this sort of thing mid-development or in a public beta is fine. But this is inexcusable with a product that is deemed "finished", and has microtransactions that people have definitely spent money on.

Trainers, Pokémon GO has been updated to version 0.31.0 for Android and 1.1.0 for iOS. Below are some of the release notes from this update:

- Avatars can now be re-customized from the Trainer profile screen
- Adjusted battle move damage values for some Pokémon
- Refined certain Gym animations
- Improved memory issues
- Removed footprints of nearby Pokémon
- Modified battle damage calculation
- Various bug fixes during wild Pokémon encounter
- Updates to the Pokémon details screen
- Updated achievement medal images
- Fixed issues with displaying certain map features
- Minor text fixes

The rest were actually unlisted, but discovered by players and data miners of the game. Check out /r/pokemongo for more details.

As someone else who's getting into coding, I agree to a certain degree. Sometimes the only way to go up one stair is go down one before going up two. But when you take that one step down without telling anyone, they're going to say "What the ****?", even if you plan on going up two steps later on. Niantic is one of the worst companies when it comes to communication with their players. If they said something about it and provided reason for it instead of being obnoxiously vague, then it'd be more forgivable. Instead they just act without any clear indication as to why. Keeping people in the dark is how you lose players. Unless they get their **** together, I fully expect Pokemon Go's playerbase to be around 1/4th of its recorded max. Which is terrible because the game has so much potential, and they've lessened it.

So is Ingress better than Pokémon GO? Like, does it function better?

If so, I actually might try it. I know it's from the same company, but the fact that it's been out longer, combined with the fact it doesn't have some nostalgic, popular IP attached to it, means it might actually work better than Pokémon GO.

I admittedly tried GO because I have some nostalgia for Gen 1, and because a lot of people I know play it. But I am interested in this sort of game in general and if Ingress is better, I might try it.

Wait, is River City Ransom on the upcoming NES Classic Edition?

*checks* NOPE!
No... but it should be.

Hopefully NES Classic Edition is successful that Nintendo makes a new NES Classic Edition with 30 more games, including River City Ransom... and Zapper games.

As never being able to use the 3 step thing, I rely on finding the spots they spawn and remembering them in the areas I frequently visit.

But it would be nice if they bring it back and it works properly, I have hope this tracker thing update is only temp.

I have a hard time seeing this failing sales expectations. Nostalgia sells and the NES is definitely that, has a surprisingly AMAZING game line up, it's during the holiday season, and more than half the price compared to buying them all off the Wii/Wii U's Virtual Console. Even Microsoft's Phil Spencer is planning to buy one.

Though I think Nintendo will move on to SNES after this.

A SNES one would be great but as for the 64... are there 30 great games for that? especially if we remove Rare's line-up.

According to the wikipedia best sellers list, if we remove the Rare ones, bar DK 64 which was somehow worked out and with extras for the questionable ones

  1. Super Mario 64
  2. Mario Kart 64
  3. Ocarina of Time
  4. Super Smash Bros
  5. Pokemon Stadium (may be problem
  6. DK 64
  7. Majora's Mask
  8. Star Fox
  9. Pokemon Snap
  10. WCW/NWo Revenge
  11. Mario Party 2
  12. Pokemon Stadium 2 (also problem)
  13. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
  14. Wave Race 64
  15. Star Wars Shadows of the Empire
  16. Yoshi's Story
  17. Mario Party 1
  18. Episode 1 Racer
  19. Mario Tennis
  20. Cruising USA
  21. WCW/nWo: World Tour
  22. Mario Party 3
  23. Rogue Squadron
  24. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
  25. 007 The World is Not enough
  26. WWF No Mercy
  27. WWF Wrestlemania 2000
  28. Hey You Pikachu (what is it with these 64 PKMN games and peripherals?)
  29. Namco Museum 64
  30. Turok 2
  31. 1080 Snowboarding
  32. Turok 1
  33. Kobe Bryant NBA
That's a lot of wrestling games... A 64 Classic would need some of the hidden gems like Mischief Makers, Pokemon Puzzle League or Goemon.

Welp... Based off what I missed, Pokemon Go is actually not worth getting now due to the new update, No Man's Sky seems to be already having issues based off some guy that bought the game early off of Ebay, and I honestly feel very uninterested in doing anything. This day just gets worse and worse, doesn't it? :(

I just now realised that they removed the Power-Saving Mode in Pokémon GO.

What the actual **** is this update? This is honestly worse than Sonic Runners 2.0.

EDIT: Apparently that's only on the iOS version. Still, what even is going on at Niantic HQ?

I saw some talk about Sonic earlier.

To this day Unleashed is the only Sonic game I've ever played.
I hope you enjoyed it.

In case you didn't, though, there's still two other gameplay variants that might be worth looking into, the classics and the Adventure style. I hear a lot of people don't like the alternate playstyles of the Adventures, but I went into Adventure 1 with an open mind and absolutely loved it. As for the classics, they're great but I'd suggest not starting with the very first game despite chronological order because it's a lot slower than most Sonic games. Sonic 2 overall feels like it has the best element of feeling the speed behind your controller in the entire series for me, although I admit there's a nostalgia element behind my assessment.

On the other hand, if you liked the day stages in Unleashed then definitely give Sonic Generations a go. It's half Unleashed day stages, half classic style gameplay, all in a sampler platter of the Sonic series' history.

You could buy 2 and Adventure and it'd be a third of the price Sonic Unleashed HD was at launch, too.

That's more than I have: Aside from some unofficial Flash games, I've only played the first few levels of the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
Oh, honey.

Yeah that game be slow as molasses someone should really get you the sequel.

Well do you have a PC? Maybe you can look into Starbound and see if you'd be interested. They released the 1.0 of it just over a week ago.

Recommend ALL the games! :D

Actually every right handed person in this thread should look into Kid Icarus: Uprising and every person here in general should probably try Mega Man 2 if they haven't already. Just to round out some recommendations.

Yeah, I do have a PC; I am not a console player (not counting the Wii U, but it's not like the Xbox One or Playstation 4).

I did take a look at Starbound on the Steam page, but it just does not really present to me that well for some reason...

Wait he said that the radar wouldn't come back? I can understand the fan sites getting shut down considering those sites are beaches in the terms and services agreement. And at the moment we are in app version 0.31.0 which is hardly a full finished game. It's retail. But not finished which is only possible with downloadable titles.

As people a may have noticed on my tier list, I actually like Sonic 1 a little more than Sonic 2.

I enjoy the special stages of the first game more, I actually like levels like Marble Zone and Laybrinth Zone as they end up making the game feel a bit longer in a good kind of way (while I can easily speedrun the entirety of Sonic 2 in about 20 minutes, if I skip Chaos Emeralds), and I think Sonic's jumping physics feel a bit weird in Sonic 2 compared to the other Classic games. I also think the first game has a more memorable soundtrack for the most part. Sonic 2 also has more cheap obstacle placement, to the point where it's specifically noticeable (I think it's part of the reason people assume every Sonic game is like this, since Sonic 2 is so popular).

The speed cap in the first game was annoying and the addition of a Spin Dash is great in Sonic 2, but the Taxman version of Sonic 1 fixes stuff like that so it makes it an even easier win then.

I highly doubt most of the questionable changes of Pokemon Go will stay but I'm not saying complaints shouldn't be made, more that they should be made to Niantic themselves. It's a western company and they at least pretend to listen more than the head in the sand style that the Japanese companies do so look out their emails and try to get the """news""" sites to print stories about feature removals because this time they wont have to lie to crap over something popular.

Apparently Pokemon Go is only 10% of what the game is going to be...though with these updates it feels like it's less so now...However the game is still only at 0.29.2 for me...unless the update is being distributed to each region at different times...

I wonder why they bothered giving us the tracking if they were just going to remove it, it doesn't really make sense as it helps push exploration for the player since we can go out an hunt down certain Pokemon rather than just wander around aimlessly hoping to find something decent...

I'm just curious what else is planned for this game other than what we know will be on the way eventually...I feel like there was a reason they released the game now to encourage players to go out and capture pokemon as we may need to have some decently strong pokemon for upcoming things...Though they really to fix these issues otherwise more players will simply stop playing by then...

Uh.... What game is that? That clearly is not an E rated game.
Gal Gun and it's definitely NOT for kids (it's one of those creeper Vita games you hear about).

The ESRB actually rated it M but a misprint happened and now it's rated E.

Welp... I am glad not to own a Playstation Vita then. Nowadays, most anime themed games (with few exceptions) seem to either be visual novels or stuff like this.

I just now realised that they removed the Power-Saving Mode in Pokémon GO.

What the actual **** is this update? This is honestly worse than Sonic Runners 2.0.

EDIT: Apparently that's only on the iOS version. Still, what even is going on at Niantic HQ?
Hopefully the backlash will be as big so we can get those features back.

I just caught a Jolly Sneasel in HeartGold.
I'm probably not gonna use it, but it's still awesome.

I get ya. Some series/franchises just don't have anything you can't stand. Have you played every single Sonic game so far? There might be a few ports or something that didn't do it for you.
I played the old games on Sonic Mega and Gems collection. Ive played the Sonic Advances, I played Colors, the Storybook games, The Adventure games and I like them all I dont have the consoles for Gen and 06 though but I love Gen and 06 has a certain charm to it that I like

Generations is, in my opinion, the perfect Sonic game. Great 3D gameplay, and nearly perfect 2D gameplay inspired by the 2.5D of Donkey Kong Country Returns. It's just so damn good.

On the other hand I absolutely can't stand Adventure 1, clunky controls and jank ass level design are the main culprits. Of course all that was corrected in Adventure 2 so I'll forgive it. Lost World suffers for the same reason. Jank level design. I actually like Lost World more than adventure.

Oh, honey.

Yeah that game be slow as molasses someone should really get you the sequel.
Or get Sonic CD which is arguably the best 2D Classic Sonic. And having another way to get a good ending without suffering through bonus levels.

Mega Man 2 .
Or any 2D Mega Man game really. They're all great in their own way.
