Apparently, I couldn't explore the rest of Maile City until I found Kukui in Maile Garden first. Thank goodness there was a Pokemon Center nearby, because Hau's Alola Raichu from the last battle was scary! In those trainer battles at that location, my Azura finally became what she was meant to be: a Primarina.
So Kukui was chilling on one of the benches near the the ice cream stand and he told us where we head to go next for the upcoming trial: Mount Hokulani. After he left, I spent the time to explore Maile Garden. Turns out this area was built by people who moved to Alola from Johto just like I predicted. There's an ice cream stand there, and it looks like it's closed there during the nighttime. I bet that's where they serve Castelia Cones (I saw the Vanillish sign in front of it). You also can't go inside that yellow tower, which is sad because I wanted to see how the inside of it looked like.
When reaching the city portion, I encountered Samson Oak. It seems like the Rotomdex knows him well, because it immediately appeared in front of him. I also learned that the Rotom Pokedex was designed by someone in Kalos: Clemont anyone?
Now it was time to explore most of Maile City. The clothing store had some interesting clothes, particularly jeans. They also have a hat shop inside the community center, but I found nothing of interest there.
Time to head to that library like Lillie suggested. She explains she became lost while exploring the town, but she found a clothing store and bought some clothes; then the clerk gave her directions to the library.
At the library, Lillie searches for the ancient book she was wanting to read, and then...
Well whoop-to-do,
ghost loli the Ghost Trial Captain girl has arrived!
We then read the book. "The Beast that Devours the Sun" apparently appeared from a hole in the sky, and the king bowed before it. The Island Guardians fought that beast but lost; yet, the beast gave its blessings to Alola. Then came a Beast of Moon, and it engaged a union with the Beast of Sun to create new life. "A fragile heir in Alola" was born, and the Island Guardians would protect it from strife. The ancient kings then sang their praise to Solgaleo, the Beast of Sun, via flutes.
So, putting the puzzle pieces together, we know that from pre-release information that Solgaleo was called the "Beast that Devours the Sun" in ancient times. The texts said it appeared from a hole in the sky. What hole in the sky did we see in the past? The Ultra Wormhole! What comes out of Ultra Wormholes? Ultra Beasts! You know what this means?
Solgaleo is an Ultra Beast!
And the same applies to Lunala.
The text also mentioned that "a fragile heir in Alola" was born from a union between the "Beast of Sun" and the "Beast of Moon." We know the Beasts of Sun and Moon are Solgaleo and Lunala respectively. Now, who could this "fragile heir" be? I'm guessing its
Cosmog. Why? It displayed an interest in visiting the ruins where the Guardian Deities are, and the texts say the Island Guardians had to protect it.
Now the dialogue following this is interesting:
Yep, you're not reading that wrong. Acerola is a descendent of the Alolan royal family! That's pretty interesting.
It's a good thing you can read the text again anytime following this. They also had some texts that explore more about the lore about the Island Guardians.
Now I headed to the outskirts of Maile to fight some trainers there. There was a pretty interesting with a janitor and his son; the janitor wanted his son to fight me to learn something. We also learn the son used to be a Trial Goer but quit because it was too hard. Next thing you know it, he was working in his father's sewage industry. The janitor wanted his son to learn to grow up through that battle. Next you thing you know it, the son became the new head of the sewage facility. That's the basic gist, but it's worth checking out.
I then went back and fought Lana and Kiawe. Both battles weren't difficult.
I then fought the trainers in Route 10. I ended the day right before the Team Skull Grunts because it was night and my Mata Hari was very close to evolving; Mata Hari evolves into Lurantis at Level 34 during the day.
First thing I did today was fight the grunts. I opened with Mata Hari and switched into Puka. That Golbat was annoying! It got lucky with poisoning him via Poison Fang, and Supersonic only made it more annoying. I had to sacrifice some Hyper Portions, a Lava Cookie, and a Rage Candy Bar just to beat this bat. I eventually do, and Mata Hari levels up and finally evolves into Lurantis. I fought the next grunt, and that one was a much easier battle. It was Urlacher against an Alola Raticate. You can imagine how that went.
I then fought a wild Fearow to level up Puka to Level 34. It learned Discharge, a strong special-hitting Electric-type attack, so I decided it was finally time to evolve it into an Alola Raichu. I do just that. Gotta say, I like the interesting detail where they play a Hawaiian-style remix of the evolution theme when you evolve Pikachu into Alola Raichu. Does it apply to other Alola Pokemon?
Alola Raichu finally learns Psychic in the process. Stat-wise, while the Pokemon gains a boost in Special Attack, my Alola Raichu still has Attack as its higher stat. Luckily, it still knows Spark and Nasty Plot, so I think it might good with move coverage for now. I might replace Spark with Wild Charge once I find the TM.
Next thing to do is take on Sophocles and his Electric Island Trial!
