Look, I don't think he's a terrible idea and I'm definitely not here to be a contrarian, he's an good idea for the most part only because I really like his game, but in terms of uniqueness specifically, I just can't find something that can be distinct which is why I started discussing the idea of him taking nods to other indies in the first place, in no way am I trying to detract supporters here.

Aren't these just optional weapons though, I think you could beat the whole game without the use of those weapons and some weapons aren't really central to Shovel Knight unless you want 100% complete the game.

Anyway, I really want all the powerups back in Mario Maker, levels could be so much more unique then! Also I hope we get some smash news tomorrow.

I love he guy but we all the know the real reason he wants SK in the game. The whole fan criteria will be broken and it won't seem impossible that his favorite Level 5 franchises can get in and easily possible.

There are a handful of relics that are absolutely required to beat the game.

I really hate the belief that Shovel Knight getting in would open the door for a bunch of other third party/indy characters.

Because it could do as much harm as it does good for those characters.

Of the top of my head, I believe the Propeller Dagger, Phase Locket and Dust Knuckles are needed.
Actually, I may be incorrect about which ones are needed.
But I'm pretty sure there are mandatory relics.

If you're looking for visually distinct, Shovel Knight would also be the only actual knight in the game. No one else is in full plate armor.

Also, as others have said, the way you swing a Shovel is different from the way you swing a sword.
