Not only does it look like a knock-off, but it looks like a bad knock-off.
Great work Disney.
Funny too since the reason Disney Infinity exists in the first place was to cash in on the same success another game (Skylanders).

This argument has gone on for about 3 hours now. . . it is getting a bit ridiculous and I don't think any opinions are going to budge on this.

soooooo to change the subject to maybe something less rage-inducing. Who do people think is the most underrated character chance wise?

I would say Paper mario He is quite popular even if he is rarely talked about as a contender. And being a mario character means he would sell well with the casual audience as well. He has a history as far back as the 64 and is as recent as the 3ds with another game on the way. IDK thats just me. and I would rather discuss literally anything else
I guess Dixie Kong, these are the only characters I think have a chance of getting added through the ballot.
Every other character I think either doesn't have enough votes, has legal BS to deal with that will prevent them from getting in, already has a role in the game, has technical issues..., or I just don't see Sakurai adding them for one reason or another. However all these characters have things about them that makes me iffy about their chances.

And now Nintendo is cashing in on toys-to-life stuff, like Disney and Skylanders. .

It's not the copying of an idea.

It's copying the content. The fact that the level is literally Arowanna Mall is what gets me uptight.

Every genre began with someone ripping off someone else.
Pretty much.

:4sonic:had a load of those and none ever came up of being close to his level of popularity or even doing good.

And don't get me started on :4ryu:

So is it a pre-made level, or a fan made level from the creator? Either way, it's too crude of a knockoff to be upset about.

I can give this ripoff one positive.

It'll be amusing to see guys like Ultron, the Inside Out cast, and Baymax shooting discount ink.

Other than that, screw Disney Infinity for this.

Actually, I will. Because really, if Capcom sued for even a small element that was found in Street Fighter II in any other fighting game out there (shotokans, special moves, combos, etc), then the entire genre as we know it would be gone. It's just how genres work: we look at one idea, use it, and tweak it to our own ideals. It's been this way since the very beginning.

Well, this is uh.... interesting.

Not even a year after Splatoon's release and we already have a clone :p
If it offers something gameplay wise that Splatoon doesn't then I'd be all for it, but this seems like a bare bones cash grab.

Doesn't even look like ink, just playing laser tag with square sections of wall.

I never meant it as ripping them off was bad but it was blatant as hell in most cases but it's always been like that with the imitators but they stand out in most cases. They make unique styles, gameplay features and ascetics.

All of SNK fighters stood out due to its systems
Mortal Kombat stood out for its violence
Killer Instinct stood out from those 3 by being more combo focused.
Virtua Fighter became the first 3D fighter by separating itself from 2D fighters and became its own thing and other fighters were inspired by it and made its own likeness from Tekken, Dead or Alive, Bloody Roar and Soul Calibur.
Darkstalkers created a new style of 2D fighters with air dashes and high offense that help give birth to other hyper fighters like MvC, Guilty Gear and BlazBlue.

And then there's a certain Platform Fighter....

I was going to make a joke about how they didn't use Davy Jones in that video. . . But the official tweet uses him.

Davy Jones. the guy with tentacles on his face. Disney why. You could of at least pretended this was your own original idea.

EDIT this also makes me realize freaking Davy Jones has an infinity figure before freaking Goofy. Gawrsh . . .

I love how people are defending this blatant rip-off of Splatoon down to the environment and the "squid" theme.
I also love how people are losing their minds over it.

So I just got Super Mario Maker and is anyone else at awe when they saw Miyamoto's signature in the illustration book? I know it's not authentic but it still made me feel tingly inside.
Also try my course out! You're going to feel so puzzled. (4DFC-0000-0026-431C)
Is there a thread to post Mario course codes?

I suggest just doing it in this thread:

Or in Neo's SMM thread if you are interested :p

I realized something rather interesting about Mario Maker's target audience that I never thought of before these past 2 days.

My younger sibling (who is 8, a little more than 10 years younger than I) is really only into Minecraft. Which is disappointing to me, as I'm always trying to introduce him to games that I enjoyed when I was younger. But he still just wants to play Game rip-offs on custom Minecraft Servers.

For his birthday, I got him Mario Maker. He was somewhat interested in it so I'll take whatever chance I can get to get him into something Nintendo related.

He. Is. Addicted.

It's insane. This game has grabbed him so fast and he is so proud of the levels he has made. (They're not great, but he feels a sense of "I did this". Which is something that is awesome).

That's when it hit me. This game is an indirect way for Nintendo to grab the "Minecraft Generation". Kids now really really like making their own games and ideas. Which is why we see games like Minecraft and Disney Infinity and certain mobile games take their attention.

It's extremely interesting. Easily the best business move by Nintendo in recent years to bring that crowd back. And it's working.

Capcom actually has sued for a game being similar to Street Fighter II. Capcom lost and funnily enough, the company they took to court had previously tried suing a company for producing a similar fighting game.

Yeah it was SNK for Art Of Fighting. Which makes it all the more ironic when Capcom VS SNK became a thing.

Actually it was Data East for Fighter's History. Data East had previously sued Epyx claiming International Karate infringed upon Karate Champ.
Courts have ruled that things like combos are what constitute a fighting game and are subsequently not subject to copyright.

Have you tried getting him to play a Little Big Planet game? He might like that.

And that's something I really like about these kinds of games. They're the kinds of games that let your imagination flow, which I'm glad they have been becoming more and more prominent.

Wreck-it Ralph is on ABC Family right now.

It's a nice way to pass the time while waiting to play Super Mario Maker. I've only seen it once before.

Just saw the Splatoon...thing from Disney. Laughing pretty hard at the video and the comments.
