Well, Taka wasn't revealed as I've expected since earlier this week. Oh well, either an E3 reveal or being showcased as a post-launch unlockable are the only options left. At least, Greninja poses himself as a possible rival for our favorite samurai.

Silly boy, Takamaru doesn't attack with close combat, teleport, fight with water, attack with a tongue scarf, or shoot watery shirukens.

But all jokes aside, we shouldn't really assume that a random Pokemon reveal kills his chances completely. Remember, the answer lies in the heart of battle.

This is small minded thinking. Takamaru has how many different means of offense and we're going to get hung up on the idea that substitutes and shuriken are taken? Mind you, Takamaru is traditionally depicted as a samurai and samurai are traditionally defined by their swordplay and katanas over ninja like tricks.

I don't see a disconfirmation here even if I do feel a little more pensive talking about our boy.

Well, it helps not holding up hopes too high. From the beginning, I said the only character I really was expecting was Diddy. Having my most favorite character ever in since Brawl also really helps I guess.

More than likely it is, the recurring villain in a series tends to take precedence. I just hope he brings a new moveset this time, or a more diverse one.

You know, I've been been thinking about what happened last night. Greninja didn't really hurt Taka's chances, but helped him as well. If you think about it, Ninja Frog's playstyle and attacks would basically push Sakurai to find other ways of making him unique. No shirukens, but instead he has the more precise and spammable kunai (or throwing knives as you prefer). Want an agile character with more attacking range, then Takamaru would be the best option for you. He can be almost as fast as Marth, but slightly slower to separate him from the others. The invisibility gimmick shouldn't be removed, but slightly altered since both Pokemon (Lucario and Greninja) has a counterattack involving fake outs. Greninja specializes only with water, but Taka could cover more deadly elements like lightning and fire. Ninja Frog only depends on supernatural powers (aquamancy), but Taka has tons of tricks of up his sleeve (smoke bombs, scrolls, and more). We all know Taka's main enemies are ninjas, so Greninja being confirmed as a ninja fighter would give Trollerai some inspiration for his inclusion. Lastly, Balloon Fight being in the 3DS version makes me optimistic that the Wii U will at least have one stage based on a one-shot NES Era IP that isn't Kid Icarus or Ice Climber. What can I say, I'm the most optimistic guy in this thread.

I stand by what I said before the Direct - Takamaru absolutely feels like secret character material to me. For the past two games we've had an old, relatively unknown character show up out of the blue. Takamaru could follow in the footsteps of Game & Watch and ROB, a character that makes most players go "Who?"

Also, I should post this here from the other thread;

I'm not sure to what degree Greninja really affects Takamaru's chances. If he has, it's more that he's encroached upon the general Japanese aesthetic, which otherwise would have been unique to Takamaru. The shuriken don't seem to be much of a conflict, because Takamaru doesn't use shuriken. His default projectiles are throwing knives, which can be upgraded to fireballs and windmill swords. Takamaru also isn't necessarily an agile fighter - he's a samurai, not a ninja. He's quick with his sword, but not on his feet.

Can we at least pretend we're more than a mile away from the grasping at straws stage in character speculation?
