I think it could have been, and I love that wheelchair basketball is a game like this, but the game's presentation is super boring.
What its lacking is... I dunno, a bit of character? Like, ARMS looks distinctly Nintendo with its character designs and general vibe. The wheelchair basketball game thing looks like some maybe mid-2010's sports game available off of steam or something.

Bruh if you can race as a skeleton fish before E Gadd that's tragic but hilarious lol
OK I was laughing at playable Biddybud, but FISHBONES?!?

I guess if it has a character model, it's playable. lol. We've finally reached peak gaming.
Fans: "Can we get playable E. Gadd?"

Nintendo: "Heh... How about THIS instead?"

I feel like today was the best day to anounce the Deluxe version, Ult Deluxe feels like a no-brainer Year 1/Christmas port to drive sales, but they didn't anounce it, i'm not feeling Deluxe anymore.
The Switch 2 Editions announced today all seem like they're coming out soon. Christmas or later they might not even announce it yet.

Especially if the Switch 2 Edition is meant to coincide with a new Fighters Pass.

Nintendo released this backward compatability page on their website.

The lists of games that aren't compatible are... interesting to say the least.
The only game truly incompatible is for peripheral reasons. Everything else seems like it'll probably just need to be patched.

Man I really hope the backlash gets big enough for Nintendo to walk back those game prices. They're kinda killing the mood rn lol
Probably won't happen unless tariffs get walked back.

Were there no WarioWare characters (not including Wario himself) in the Mario Kart trailer? Honestly would be kinda surprised if none showed up. Odd that one of the most noteworthy Mario spin-off series doesn't really get much rep in big Mario games imo.
While DKC is inconsistent like how Diddy Kong appears in some spinoffs but not others.

Characters that were introduced in the Yoshi games such as Baby Mario generally appear in Mario Kart but Nintendo probably views that series like Luigi’s Mansion unlike Smash where it’s separate like DK and Wario.

Historically, Donkey Kong is the only spin-off franchise that ever interacts with Mario spin-offs, and Mario Spin-off characters never interact with the main series (unless they are a generic enemy).

Pretty much what I was thinking. There's nothing really there visually, and the lack of charm is really felt.

Everything looks so wonderful and then the prices made me physically say eww...

Yeah, I had to do a double take when I first saw that price. I know it likely may not be completely on Nintendo (and that's all I'll say on that), but $80 is... crazy. I'll probably delay getting a Switch 2 for now.

Mario Kart World looks SWEEEET! And it's getting its own separate Direct!

GameCube NSO being a Switch 2 exclusive is something I expected. But seeing Zelda, Soul Calibur, and F-Zero in the launch lineup has be excited.

A good amount of Zelda titles shown off. Switch 2 versions of BOTW and TOTK, Link's appearance in SC2, and a new Hyrule Warriors game.

DragXDrive looks fun. Honestly an improvement over the 1-2-Switch duology.

Elden Ring will pop off on Switch 2, but Street Fighter 6 getting Amiibo support? Best third-party reveal.

Kirby Air Riders AND Donkey Kong Bananza both closing out the show? A good sign of the excitement at play. However, the latter means two things: The movie redesign feels like the new look for DK, and I don't see any of the other established Kongs. At least give us Diddy in the game.

Oh, and the Switch 2 Upgrade Packs are decent.

From this, I can gather a few predictions.
-Zelda Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 2 and 3, and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle will be on Gamecube Classics.
-The Smash 6 rumor will be true. It'll be a Switch 2 Upgrade Pack instead of its own release, which will make it easier for the programmers.
-Foreman Spike in Mario Kart World.

So there was a user called almightyFaceplant on r/smashbros who had serious doubts on a new Smash releasing for the Nintendo Switch 2. Mostly because while Sakurai was working on a new project in 2022, Sakurai also said he didn't know anything about a new Smash game being developed in a different "Creating Games" video.

I guess almightyFaceplant was right, the project plan was not Smash 6. (Honestly I should've brought this up ages ago but maybe that was already discussed at one point).

I don't think Kirby Air Ride 2 changes much for a new Smash's development timeline, idk why a lot of ppl are going "Deluxe or no Smash". Unless I missed something, it releases this year so I imagine the game's basically finished, and probably has been for a while since the project was drafted in 2021; I doubt it would have taken that long to make. Assuming a standard 2 years, that'd be like 2023-2024, which is around when I think Smash 6 started, so no real change there.

I still feel 2026 for Smash.

Honestly seeing that Sakurai was working on Air Riders, I'm pretty set on starting Smash marketing sometime next year and releasing in 2027. I already was, but even moreso now.

Koopa Troopa Beach is one of the courses they showed on the Cup select screen, so it's confirmed. Also pictured there is Wario Stadium.

I'm also fairly certain Dino Dino Jungle is there as well. I could be confusing Faraway Oasis for it, but given the icon, it seems like that one has a safari motif rather than a dinosaur one.

I think I’d would prefer a Ultimate Deluxe/Switch2 Edition over a new game. Mainly cause I fear the next game would have a lot of character cuts. For the switch2 edition have some new stages, items, and new skins (dry bowser, new dk look, etc) and then like two new fighter passes. That would be awesome. Just dreamin here but maybe even a true story mode.

Not gonna lie, after Nintendo explained how Nintendo Switch 2 Editions are going to work, I wouldn't be against the idea of Ultimate getting the treatment, assuming it's not just Fighter's Pass 3 and instead several new modes as well as old ones (Break the Targets, All-Star), along with new characters and stages, then I say bring it. Heck, they could even reach the 100-character roster mark if they add 18 newcomers through the course of initial release and DLC. It could make for something truly memorable.

Also keep in mind if it is a "Switch 2 Edition", the later it shows up, the less sense that makes, because it'd just close the gap between when a better selling original game could be ready.

I mean presumably the plan on the og Switch was to eventually have a new, original Mario Kart, and the port showed up in month two.

I would surmise that it seems unlikely we would receive a Switch 2 Edition of Ultimate in 2025, otherwise it probably would've been shown with the others. And if it came in 2026, but a Smash 6 could otherwise be ready in 2027... would they really make a Switch 2 Edition?

Smash, unlike the games that received Switch 2 Editions, generally becomes a platform for sustained multi-year content - sort of like Splatoon and probably Animal Crossing - two other games which didn't receive Switch 2 Editions.

The games that did get Switch 2 Editions don't preclude DLC, but they aren't ongoing services.

So the existence of a Switch 2 Edition Ultimate would either be to usurp the role of an actual new, better-selling Smash, even though one could probably be ready shortly after it, or to just exist, briefly, before being replaced, which renders it... superfluous.

I think people who want a Deluxe Port want to dimiss any posibility of Smash 6 happening, instead of considering that both options could happen.
I personally think a Ultimate Deluxe is not gonna happen, but a Switch 2 upgrade with a Fighter Pass 3 is still possible, personally i do not really want to play Ultimate for 10+ years, i'm already kind of burned out of ultimate and a FP3 is not going to help, in my case, but i would be desilusional to say a Switch 2 upgradee is not a option, either, personal feelings =/= what could happen.
Smash 6 can still happen, honestly nothing has really changed with Smash 6 vs Deluxe debate, just that we'll call it Switch 2 upgrade instead of Deluxe.

To be honest, I'm not expecting Smash to do a Switch 2 Edition for the same reason I don't expect Ultimate Deluxe.

I think Sakurai would rather just make a new game, and I think Namco's support studios hiring through to June last year was setting up for exactly that.

I think there'll be a Switch 2 edition of Ultimate too, with small things like a performance boost and a new mode or two, likely backported from Smash 6, though I don't see extra fighters being added, seems a bit above what the other upgrade editions are doing. Still an easy way to squeeze a few final dollars from Ult without expecting people to pay full price for it, though not at the expense of a new game I think.

For real, the direct was amazing, but the devil is in the details.

Things like the prices and the physical games doing what Sony and Microsoft have been doing is... Bad.

This isn't enough to sink a console or my desire for it, but man, it sucks.

I'm not super enthused on the idea of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. I mean, for me (and probably all of us), it's probably only going to cost $20, which is nice, but I'm not sure there will be a whole lot of new here. We do still have that Studio S team, which, if they actually are working on Smash, would mean that we're still working with a pretty old project plan, so no Pikmin 4, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, or anything recent like that, and I'm not really sure what they'd add other than characters and stages. World of Light expansion? That's just more of the same.

I feel like it would just be Smash, but with more stuff that's kinda eh, and new fighters: Sans, Ring & Ring Fit Trainee, Bandana Waddle Dee, and...I dunno Funky Kong as an Echo Fighter.

And yet another point to keep in mind is if Smash should rebuild its roster, and shift to having a smaller base but a more regular and ongoing provision of DLC fighters, that would reallocate a lot of dev time from pre-release to post-release, which an ongoing full development team, like Studio S, would facilitate.

Thus expediting the time in which they could get the game out.

DK's design is so good and expressive. I love how much it derives from his Arcade design.

...There's no way they can stick with the animal voices anymore in Smash. It's GOTTA change next game.... right?
It really is doing pretty great job on revitalizing his image overall. Though I guess one could find him too "goofy", but now I think his modern voice does fit better. Also it feels like it's still retaining a little bit of Rare's own cartoony animal hero goofiness like Battletoads to DKC's animations, especially the wild takes:

I really do feel we'll see less animal grunt DK from now on out, definitely.

If we get all these characters, but have Donkey be the only Kong again I’m going to lose my mind.
