Honestly, I would love to see the next Smash be a reboot where most of the roster gets cut.

Plus, there's lots of potential for veterans whose movesets haven't been updated for decades like Samus for example.

I find it a double-edged sword.

Change is exciting and scary. What exactly do you have in mind for Samus? If you were in the directors chair, how much are you actually updating on her kit?

Hmmm, now that you mention it, I must say; I still think characters like Sonic need some moveset changes, but while change and updating characters can be a good thing, I'd say it can throw off people, whether or not they are used to the old movesets. I can see why Sakurai does not change movesets much, and it is also going to probably cause some people to complain and be loud about it, no matter how many people actually like the changes in any moveset.

If Sakurai ever decides to revise the moveset for even just one character (which I doubt he will)…it should probably be Ganondorf.

In other words, Falcondorf gets closer to being canon every time Ganondorf gets in a new, mainline Zelda game.

Heck, OoT is the only time he's ever used Dead Man's Volley despite how much people see it as a staple of his abilities.

I think we may have discussed this before but…how many characters' movesets do you think actually need to be reworked/revamped?

Hard to say because some characters I think need complete reworks, but others I think just need a few moves changed.

I admit that the idea has grown on me, but I really just like SNES era design. Especially if we’re going back to the ALttP/ALBW design for Zelda. NES era is too ugly, and any form of Ganon past this era is too gigantic for anything beyond Final Smashes.

Yeah he's also able to crawl in the Super Mario Galaxy duology. There's no reason why he can't in Smash. It's probably one of the least important things to give a character, but also...why not?

Same with Luigi not having a wall jump. He couldn’t in 64 DS but that’s the exception and there are characters that can’t wall jump in their games but can in Smash such as Duck Hunt, Villager and Little Mac.

Not sure why Adult Link can’t either.

Man, I was imagining a hypothetical Banjo game made in collaboration between Nintendo and Microsoft earlier, and for some reason this design reminds me of Wizpig from Diddy Kong Racing. I'm not sure what that says about me.

The moment he stops using weapons is the moment we could say without a doubt that Smash has deeply influenced the character's direction, because that's the one thing left for Falcondorf to be Canondorf.

They did Kingdom Hearts so in theory they could add a Super Robot Wars character to Smash. They won’t but like, Theoretically they could.

I'd personally say to just handle it the Fox McCloud/Jin Saotome route. The pilot does the fighting with moves inspired by the mech with maybe some moves that call on the mech to attack/assist (though given the size, I don't see this as being viable outside of the FS.)

I have pretty much no knowledge on SRW but I do think some sort of potential compromise so the mech gets more screentime at least would be a stage in a hangar or something where it's present in the background. Either that or a stage set during a battle between mechs in the background that would occasionally land attacks on the stage as hazards.

Certainly fine. I absolutely do not mind them and think they work great alongside Bowser. I just wish Nintendo wasn't so trigger happy on being inconsistent with or even quickly discarding other characters. Like sure, the Koopalings were a bit overdone during the Wii/Wii U Era, but they don't suddenly need to disappear and then never appear for another so-and-so years.

It’s also not even the first time for them specifically since they disappeared after the SNES era before returning in Superstar Saga. NSMBW if it’s about the mainline games.

What do you guys think about Bowser Jr. and Kamek as Bowser's sidekicks?

Kameks rise to prominence has been great to watch. He's essentially Bowser's dad and the family dynamic with him, Bowser and Jr is great. I love that he appears more than the generic species now, he's one of the highest ranking and most powerful member of Bowser's army, only Bowser and Jr outrank him. Also his boss fight in Dream Team is absolutely phenomenal.

I mean smash is a crossover with like 200 series cutting most of the roster without cutting essantials like A young link, bowser jr., pkmn trainer or entire series is pretty much impossible!
I do agree that we could scale the roster down, esspecially if we only have like 6 third parties and get rid of beloved but not as essantial stuff like:
Rosalina/Daisy, sheik, lucario or incineroar and some fire emblem stuff!

But even then which characters need full reboot reworks?

Like link(s) and kirby only need adjustments,
Mario needs some bigger tweaks, Samus seems mostly okay too!

I think the biggest changes the original 12 need are:
Dk needs a full rework, luigi should be DeWeirded,
Ness (and lucas if hes in) should get a meele weapon for some normals, maybe replace jigglypuff with screamtail to keep the archetype but remove some gen 1 focus?
Thats the biggest issues i can see!
(Other then falcon and fox but they dont have any on foot stuff to begin with!)

Safest prediction due to Tears of the Kingdom. Ganondorf and DK are my biggest bets for a big overhaul currently.

Yup give him the Totk Design (As its probably his best) then let him use the miasma club from that game for his smash attacks!
And maybe two miasma swords as a ww for his normals reffrence?
Than give him a miasma dead mans volley (yes you can reflect his miasma attacks with the mastersword thats the main reason why zelda upgraded/repaired it)
Or maybe have him summon miasma walls ala bayos feet/arms? Then maybe a high jump or teleport as up smash?
Maybe a spear rush or miasma arrow to replace his kick?
Maybe have him summon miasma fire bats with his miasma spear as a down special?
Lastly use dark beast ganon instead of demon dragon to still have that classic pig repped! (As calamity ganon is all but confirmed to be totk ganons mucus anyways!

Theres a lot of stuff you can do with totk ganondorf while still giving him sone classic stuff so he feels like a generic ganondorf you can pit against toon or toy link!

Between DK, Ganondorf, Link, Zelda, King Dedede, Samus, and Villager there's a lot of characters that aren't using their current designs.

I don't think all of them will get visual redesigns, but it's interesting to think about.

Masaki would be my choice.

He's the series first protagonist, the "Marth" or "Ninten" or "Red" of the series. And frequently pops up to help throughout the games, he's even confirmed to be returning in the new game this year so he still has a presence.

He's shown up in most of the series english releases too so him being a "Japan only" character isn't an issue.
