Questioning my existence while asleep
Speaking of Sony-owned characters... given how Sony IS still a competitor of Nintendo's, do we expect them to be willing to lend Nintendo any of their characters as PLAYABLE, or will they go the Shovel Knight route of just letting them be ATs?

Yes, I know Shovel Knight is an indie, so it's not the most APT comparison, but SEGA, Capcom, and Konami already have PLAYABLE characters in addition to 3rd party ATs, so...
This is going by the assumption that Yacht Club outright denied Nintendo from having Shovel Knight on the roster, which is extremely doubtful.

And on that same note, I can't think of any reason if Nintendo reached out to add someone like Kratos to the roster that Sony would get petty and only allow him to be an Assist at best.

I just don't see Nintendo reaching out for it at all.

If they added Kratos, do you think they'd focus more on his classic God of War appearance, or focus more on his depiction in Dad of Boy?

I'm sure there would be stuff from both, but what do you think would get more emphasis?
Probably Dad of Boy emphasis but still able to use the Blades of Chaos in some way.

FWIW, Sony themselves have only really acknowledged Dad of Boy as of late: for example, despite having an entire level in Astro Bot themed around the series, only the Norse era stuff was referenced in the game. All the Greek era got was a joke in the Kratos bot's description.

Can't help it. These two always being the "next DLC" has me jaded on them.
Kinda sucks too because Hayabusa has been one of my top picks since Smash 4. But if he gets in at least I’m happy but it is a shame he’s become a “stagnant” pick in a way.

I wonder how long people have been asking for Master Chief in Smash…
Probably since Ultimate if it’s serious.

Generally lot of the requests in the Smash 4 era related to 3rd party were if they had a connection to Nintendo so requests for characters like Cloud and other characters that aren’t as associated were less common.

This is despite Snake in Brawl being more associated with PlayStation outside of spinoffs and remakes by the time of Brawl for example. Even his design was from two games (MGS2, MGS3) that didn’t release on a Nintendo console until after Brawl.

I think the concept of an edgy Pac-Man is dumb as hell. But if the game ends up being a good metrovania, I'll probably still play it.
But puck is literally like your navi 90% of the time!
Like hes cute and small sure he can turn into a shadow and a mecha bit he also still makes his goofy wakka wakka sounds while going up walls!

Like puck still feels true to pac!

On here at least they only really began picking up after Cloud's reveal. I would know because I was the originator lol
And I think the older OPs I wrote reflect the times in which the threads were made having gone digging for them so I can save and update them for whenever the hell support threads open back up here, if they even do because there aren't enough active mods to manage all that.

I think he takes more issue with the everything else of the game rather than than the Puck design.

In my opinion, edgy Pac-Man as a concept is a bad idea, but even bad ideas can work wonders with good execution, and they seem to have at least made it interesting.

I wonder how long people have been asking for Master Chief in Smash…
IIRC he was common on fan rosters back when they had 100+ characters including some of the deepest cuts in existence, but other than that I think he was mostly seen as a non-option.

EDIT:
I have a question…

If any western characters get in Smash in the future, would they not have Japanese voices but just English (or whatever) voices in the game if they had voice actors, like how the Marvel side of characters had only English voice actors in at least Marvel vs. Capcom 3?
As far as I know, character voices are determined by how many times the character is localized in their home series. When Fire Emblem was Japanese only, the cast only spoke Japanese, but as soon as it got localized they started speaking English, Wii Fit Trainer has both American and British English Voice Actors, the Pokémon cast has different VAs for every language under the sun, and interestingly, so does Sonic more or less.

The Final Fantasy characters are an exception to this for legal reasons. Most other characters are either designed to have their language be universal (Mario for example), or just have English and Japanese VAs.

I won't look it up for everyone, but Halo is localized in about 11 different languages, so he'd likely have quite a few VAs involved.

Now I’m sure we’ll get the usual Pokémon, Fire Emblem, and maybe Mario characters but other than that I’m not sure if we’ll get much else.
Very pissed of!!!
Like mario has been stripmined for characters with there being a single important mainline charactet missing (toad) like mario having 14 characters! Which is pretty bonkers!
Pokemon and fire emblem have barely any reucurring characters so they just add almost random characters into the game even if they or their games are hated!

So honestly mostly skip them if you dont have a lot of room for first partys add like toad/toadette cause he earned it and then atleast bandana dee, impa, isaac and maybe a rythm heaven character!
Like zelda and kirby are bigger then fe they didnt get a newcomer since brawl/meele!

I doubt it will happen, but I’d be super down for a playable Astro if all 7 of their alts were Sony character costumes. Sony has so many fantastic series and characters, this would be a cool way to represent a good chunk of them.

If they went down this route then Ratchet, Kratos, Aloy, Nathan Drake, PaRappa, Kat, and Pipo Monkey would be my predictions (maybe replace PaRappa with Sackboy).

I'd be down for that, and some of them had the special stages in Astro Bot centered around their games where Astro gets their moves, specifically Ape Escape (Spike costume), God of War (Kratos costume), Uncharted (Nathan Drake costume), and Horizon (Aloy costume).

Unfortunately you can't really do anything with the LocoRoco level since it just makes Astro a head lol

Question to you guys if the main character of undertale makes it into smash what do you think theyll be called?
Like the human is their name for most of the game and acurately describes that theyre an amalgam of frisk, chara and the player!
But frisk is more popular abd also less confusing!
(Then again we got 4 characters called heeo!)

In Undertale, the human you play as is officially named Frisk according to the Pacifist ending with Asriel, so I imagine they'd go with that.

There's not really a reason to go with anything else if Frisk is their official name. They'd be Frisk in the other paths too, it's just nobody really asks for their name in those paths.

Doesn't merchandise just use "The Human" because plot reasons?
I can see Toby make it a big deal to Sakurai to avoid using the real name in Smash for the same reasons.

I think it's way too early for a Sony rep, so i don't think Nintendo is going to ask them anything yet. Plus they still have the Master Chief card, presumably, so if they want a character from a "rival" console, then they'll go for Chief first as Microsoft is with a better relationship with Nintendo.
When Sony ports a Ratchet and Clank or non-lego Horizon game or something into a Nintendo console, then maybe we can start consider them, but for now it's just baby steps.

I know! But in genocide specifically Frisk is completly possesed by Chara and the player! So yeah thats why you dobt hear their name in that route but hear Chara/Playername a lot!
However i guess in neutral they would still use Frisk as Charas influence is really weak and the player gets ruled out in pacifist too!

So yeah Body: Frisk
SOUL: Frisk ? PLAYER? definitly not chara pre geno
The Whole: three in specil

That's a good point. Frisk doesn't get much merch (I had honestly forgotten they had any at all), but they do call them "The Human" for like the figure, the Nendoroid, and the tarot card prints, so that probably would be the case now that you mention it lol

So here are the franchises that you can select to receive news updates for in the Nintendo Today! app (US ver at least):
View attachment 400662View attachment 400663

Mostly expected choices, but interesting to note what's getting highlighted here.

Other observations:

Just like on the JP website, Tom Nook and Isabelle are sharing the spotlight here, and FE is repped by the same trio of Marth, Lyn, and Ike.

Also w the FE picture, I was gonna say it's the same one copied from the JP website, and it is indeed the same art, but strangely Lyn and Ike have swapped places! And no, it's not just mirrored. Don't know if this version of the image appears elsewhere, but it's funny there are two different arrangements.

Looks like we have BotW Link/Zelda and XBC1 (DE) Monado instead of TotK or XBC3. Not gonna read much into it, but interesting they don't have the absolute most recent.

Splatoon, Pikmin, Kirby, and Wario match the JP website images but with backgrounds either different or aligned differently.
We know what they're hinting at..

Abe from the Oddworld series was supposed to be a playable character in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, but for some reason they didn't. Abe is one of the many characters I want in the Super Smash Bros. series and it would be a good opportunity for him to come as a newcomer to the Super Smash Bros. series. However, Abe is one of two characters from the Oddworld series that I would like to see as a newcomer to the Super Smash Bros. series, with Stranger being the other. Also another issue is that Dante from the Devil May Cry series has been one of the playable characters in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as everyone knows, so it's time for him to make an appearance as a newcomer to the Super Smash Bros. series.

It pisses me of that they dont use the eow (or atleast other classic) designs of link and zelda for generic stuff!
Like the champion design from botw were outdated after 1 game!
Like remember the Ganon/Ganondorf nintendo music playlist shows neither and instead show Ganondorfs purple sweat! (Wouldve said something else but alas)

I'm really uninterested in Astro Bot being playable. I'd rather have a character with more legacy from Sony, rather than a character who references characters with big legacies.
But Astrobot's legacy IS their legacies.

With all this talk of Sony characters, I guess some people will want to see all the characters that were in the PlayStation All-Stars series.
Eh, maybe in like...10 more games.

For Smash 6, Astrobot and maybe Kraatos would suffice.

Not me. Those designs are ****.

Even if the roster end up with 150 characters, I can safely say that Fat princess wouldn't ever cross Sakurai's mind as a potential character.

They use their designs from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild likely because they're cleaner than their appearances in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. They're also technically not outdated since they are the same characters, and I wouldn't be surprised if Link at least could find another Champion's Tunic and put it on.

As for not using the designs from The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, well it's because of two things. The first is that they're from a remake and a spin-off and have yet to be in a recent mainline title, but I think more importantly is that it's because the "adult" designs of the characters are kind of seen as the main designs. They shared the spotlight with the toon designs after The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, but now that they've quietly been put to bed, the adult designs are all that's left for marketing.

I know you love the diorama artstyle, but it hasn't established itself as a major style for the series quite yet.

Back when things made sense. Smash 4 DLC into Ultimate is definitely where the doors got blown off, I think Cloud is probably the precise moment. Snake's one thing, but it was commonly known that Kojima requested it, and he was more or less treated like the outlier / outsider, as if that was the entire joke of his inclusion (at least, I always felt that it came off that way).

Hell, the community still has a heavy bias towards cartoony mascot characters, especially in the West, and certainly some are against anything remotely anime being in Smash.

Granted, this mostly comes from the fact that Smash fans likely come from the platform side of things rather than the fighter side of things.

So people, if I enjoyed all the Xenoblade games so far (started playing on the Switch, original first, then 2 then 3), will I also automatically enjoy playing X? Sort of on a budget, and thinking of getting this game somewhere next month or not.
