I don't know how Sakurai/Nintendo would feel about revealing everything upfront seeing that the reveal trailers are a big part of Smash's marketing.

However, if I can ask for ANYTHING in regards to season passes... please give us time frames for the characters at the very least.

It was absolute agony not knowing when to expect the DLC to drop. The wait would be a lot more bearable if we could at least get what seasons of the year they'd release in.

Honestly, if Smash just did what Ultimate did, but the image of the entire Fighters Pass had like seasonal timeframes of when stuff was happening, I think that'd be perfect.

When it comes to first party women, I know it will almost certainly never happen, but I'd like to see Alexandra Roivas from Eternal Darkness (the stage alone would be great).

Elma would probably be my pick over Cross/Ryan for X. Though on the subject of Xenoblade women, I have seen Mio be floated by herself for Xenoblade 3, since she's the co-protagonist/deuteragonist of 3, and it's more straightforward to make dual chakrams distinct compared to a laser-sword, since Shulk and Pyra/Mythra already use them.

Weird how Sony will let Horizon appear on the switch via Lego but super soccer has to get obliterated immediately.

Probably has something to do with the fact that another really big company is involved and probably held Sony at gunpoint with a pistol made of blocks.

Something that I've been wondering about... If Fire Emblem Awakening did NOT save the franchise like it did, what do you think happens to the Fire Emblem characters in Smash?

Corrin and Byleth wouldn't even exist so they would obviously not be added.


In the case of Corrin, people here are likely to assume Elma would replace them because she's from another big 2015 release and Splatoon is out due to getting Mii stuff but you have to realize that not having any FE past Awakening could have repercussions in Nintendo's planning.

In this alternate universe, assuming getting the rights for Xenoblade X's music would be too much of a mess, Inkling would be the only other viable choice to promote a recent release which was the spot Corrin filled to begin with. So the Mii stuff would be kept on hold until Inkling's release as one of the Mii outfit waves that would come after them.


As for Byleth, this is a very tricky since since they were once again the "recent release" slot... but the only other option is Officer Howard and given that Byleth required playing early builds of the game, part of me wonders if it would've even been possible for Sakurai to pull the same for Astral Chain, which came out later and has had no known case of delays that could've given Sakurai a good chance to try things earlier.

Another possibility to replace Byleth would be Euden from Dragalia Lost but in this universe, Fire Emblem Heroes does not exist meaning Nintendo would be significantly less successful in the mobile market. It's possible they wouldn't even want to take the risk of sharing something with Cygames without that FEH cushion meaning there's a non-zero chance Dragalia Lost would have never existed in the first place. This could potentially rule out Euden and give us no possibility of a recent release character unless they had to make **** up but I'm not gonna speculate about coming up with new games or IPs to fill the Fire Emblem-shaped hole.

They might even give up on the idea of a recent release representative altogether in this universe give us a fan-favorite but I don't expect a fifth third-party.

But these two are not the only ones struck by this.


First, Roy in Smash 4, it wouldn't be impossible for him to return anyway due to being decently popular in Melee and, depending on when Intelligent Systems would give up on supporting Awakening post-launch, might even still have the redesign he got but also maybe not.

I imagine he'd still get the decloning he got because selling a full clone as DLC would be kinda odd.

Alternatively, they could pin Mewtwo as the token Melee veteran and not bring back Roy altogether, which would lead to him getting less of a decloning in Ultimate. However, given that Smash fame alone has driven the choices of Roy and Lucas, I don't think that's the most likely outcome here.


Then, we got Chrom. He would would likely not be added since Awakening bombing would mean he'd lack the following to do well enough in the Ballot to be included as a Roy Echo.


And finally, Black Knight and Tiki might never become Assist Trophies but I'm on the fence about the Killing Edge item. Could go either way for that one.

Stages wouldn't really change outside of us not getting Garreg Mach due to Three Houses not existing.

They always brought characters from IPs that debuted between two Smashes for the last couple of games.

Brawl had Olimar.

Smash 4 had Wii Fit Trainer and Shulk.

Ultimate had Inkling and, through DLC, Min Min.

Given Ring Fit's success, I can see the Trainee be a good frontrunner.

I think I'd at least consider them a strong possibility, considering that Ring Fit was a pretty big success and I'd be surprised if it didn't get a sequel on Switch 2 even if hardware means it isn't necessarily backwards compatible.

Something that I've been wondering about... If Fire Emblem Awakening did NOT save the franchise like it did, what do you think happens to the Fire Emblem characters in Smash?

Personally, in Smash 4 and Ultimate I don't think Marth would get cut. Even if the franchise was left dormant, I don't see it being completely removed from the roster. The others though... I think it's safe to say that Corrin and Byleth never come as they would never exist in this AU. Chrom I also don't see getting added given that if FE did not turn out to be a success, I don't see if the fan demand would get him even as an echo. Robin is tougher to say as he was planned early on in Smash 4 and Idk if Sakurai would go through the process of wholly making a character just to cut them. Lucina I think it's safe to say would never be made into an a clone, Alph would probably have taken her slot as an 'alt-promoted-to-echo' with Lucina at best remaining an alt. Ike and especially Roy are interesting. Ike kinda falls into the Robin situation where Sakurai would probably have made Ike anyway, so would he drop a fully ready and functional fighter at the last minute? Roy is in a tricky spot in this AU Smash 4 because there was clearly Smash-fan-demand but would they go on with him over say Wolf? Idk

And Idk what would happen in the hypothetical Smash 6... Even then, again, I don't think Marth would get dropped. I think the franchise would stay, but Ike, Roy and Robin would be a tougher sell. Lucina might stay as an alt but again, she'd never be promoted to echo fighter.

For SSBFor base game, at worst, we’d just lose Lucina given that a unique Awakening fighter was planned early on in development, and Marth and Ike would also be a part of the project plan.

For DLC, Roy would probably remain because of his popularity in Melee. Corrin would not exist, so this may or may not have led to a free spot. Corrin’s spot was used for promotional purposes, and given that Inkling had a Mii costume planned/added prior, I think Cross/Elma would have been the fighter filling Corrin’s spot given the circumstances.

From Ultimate’s side, I assume that Chrom would have missed out given that the Fire Emblem series would not be as popular in this timeline.

For Byleth, my guess is that another character from a 2019 Nintendo game would taken her/his spot, whether it’s Officer Howard, Ring Fit Trainee, or one of the Galar starters.

I guess to add onto a hypothetical SSB6, Marth and arguably Ike would stay out of legacy/seniority. Robin’s presence would most likely hinge on how much the developers value her/his moveset, and Roy would probably be lower priority given precedence.

It's about time someone mentioned her. Having the benefit of not just being a female character, but also a villain. And arguably our first female villain if not counting Wendy due to her being an Alt and Dark Samus as while she is given female pronouns, she's never outright confirmed to be female due to being Metroid Prime, who is genderless. Though genetics in regards to fictional alien species are always a weird subject.
