Tomorrow is the start of the most critical leak week. Coz the week after that is probably the Direct. Prepare yourselves.

I've set my expectations as low as hell. We must be ready.

I don't how y'all can talk about Bandai Namco that long without mentioning Soul Calibur.

Fortunately, you can make and share Smash crossovers until your dream becomes a reality.

Pipe dream or not, just here to chime in that this is the best suggestion on this pa-

Nevermind... This is.
Yeah, I’ve been doing this for awhile since ultimate dlc was announced, some levels are very accurate, I wish Sony would let Nintendo port the LittleBigPlanet collection to switch so even more people could make awesome levels, that’s my biggest dream besides Sackboy in smash.

Speaking of Namco. Who are we thinking is more likely?
Nightmare.

Jill is like what I expect to be the next big RE game/remake
Given how successfull RE2 Remake was, RE3 Remake is pretty much inevitable. And that game is all Jill, all the time.

Most discussion pertaining to Smash Bros. pertains to the content (current and prospective) in regards to the roster. However, Smash Bros. is more than just the roster, much more. There is a lot of content out there in the games, that while not part of the roster, can still absolutely make fans of the the character or game smile.
It always makes me happy when a character I wanted, but I knew had zero chance, shows up as a Mii Costume or Assist Trophy. Or, hell, even a Spirit. I always see it as good exposure for the character, and maybe it's a stepping stone that leads to them getting in next time.

Goemon was that. I'd like to see him in Smash, but I knew he had very little chance of being a character, so the Mii costume was a very pleasant surprise.

Sans too. And most Undertale fans seems to have felt the same way.

If anyone from Sony is to get in. Kratos (Maybe even with Atreus), Sackboy and Nathan Drake are the three most likely.
I think Ratchet or Sly are more likely than Nathan Drake, who's just a very normal looking dude with no real interesting moves.

Although he is an expert and dangling from ledges...

Nintendo slips up LucasArts trademark:

Please make Smash get the curse of Monkey Island.
No! Maniac Mansion!

For all we know it could even be next week given the supposed direct might be the week after such as the 13th or 14th.

God of War, Little Big Planet and Uncharted are some of Sony's biggest titles and I'm not sure if they would give them to Nintendo so willingly, especially with them being a competitor and having a similar level of pride to Nintendo. I'd imagine Sony would give Nintendo one of their dormant franchises, something they don't see as profitable like Ape Escape, Parappa the Rapper or Tomba so Sony can still make a small profit but not help Nintendo out too much.
OTOH I could see Sony (even if reluctantly) agree to a side game or a port of an older game if it means a Smash appareance. Yes, even when it comes to the big guns. There are a couple things worth noting:

* PlayStation AllStars is dead and buried. Yea, Battle Royale didn't exactly get off the ground running - but what sunk it IMHO was the Coke Zero sponsored mobile game Island. Sony doesn't have a competitor to Smash alive, so it's either Smash or nothing, Likewise, Sony's direct competitor nowadays is Microsoft - not Nintendo. Sony doesn't have a handheld, Nintendo doesn't have a 4K power machine.

* Sony recently (and quietly) agreed to crossplay. We'll see if this is just a PS4 thing or it'll continue into the PS5, but that's gnawed at them for a bit too long. Microsoft - and Nintendo - got a lot of mileage out of that, and I doubt Sony wants to lose more ground on that front.

* Sakurai saying "Banjo Kazooie is currently available on the Xbox One" is not the first time. What with Metal Gear Solid 4 being a PS3 exclusive and Brawl still pushing MGS4 quite a bit. If there's one developer who could concievably approach Sony it's Sakurai.

Even Sony's dormant or more minor franchises are notable - Sly I'd argue is around as popular as B-K overall (outside of Smash) if not slightly bigger. Gravity Rush's in a decent position, Medievil got a remake recently and even though LBP's dormant it's still a recognizable series,

Whether Master Chief getting in or not will be key, since if he does Sony will be on the outside looking in while Nintendo and Microsoft goes all in on Smash. Steve would also be a similar warning shot for Sony, and it becomes a question of "Get nothing and watch your two competitors gain a ton" or "Watch your two competitor gain a ton, but also gain quite a bit by getting your characters in Ultimate (and promote your own game) as well".

Not saying Sony getting in is likely - I know it's very unlikely. Especially since Microsoft has one of Nintendo's former second parties, something Sony doesn't have. I'm saying that the groundwork's partly laid already for a potential turnaround.

I think Ratchet or Sly are more likely than Nathan Drake, who's just a very normal looking dude with no real interesting moves.

Although he is an expert and dangling from ledges...
*Looks at Nathan's PSASBR moveset*

*Sees concrete barriers, oil drums, tranqs, ziplines and stone pillars. In case Sakurai vetoes real life guns.*

Turns out there's actually something there for a potentially interesting moveset.

I wouldn't count on Sony.

I'm pretty sure a big part of why Microsoft was so open to the deal is because they've been shifting focus from being a dedicated platform toward expanding their services. Less reason to hoard your IPs when you're going to be trying to get your stuff on as many devices as possible.

Sony hasn't moved in that direction yet, and short of them making such a move or going the way of SEGA, neither of which is likely, I expect them to be much less open.

If they did open their doors though? Have said it before, but I'll take Siren first-and-foremost, then Folklore, Medievil, Parappa the Rappa, Um Jammer Lammy, Vib Ribbon, and Wild Arms. With Parappa being the only plausible choice there, granted. I would expect Kratos. Or Toro/Kuro if they want to be jerks.

You wanna know a greater source of frustration? Try supporting both Erdrick and Geno, and then paying a visit to the Geno thread. Half the people there were taking more shots at Dragon Quest than a game of beer pong.
I know you said this a while ago, but my god did I spend way too much time having to defend the merits of Dragon Quest as an inclusion to the Geno thread and ironically having to explain the popularity of a series that is more niche to the general public in the west, but heavily supported by a core dedicated fan base still has merit (and not to mention how many times I had to bring up Dragon Quest as, you know, a Japanese cultural phenomenon that makes a ton of sense to include in a Japanese developed game by a fan of Japanese gaming that wants to make a Japanese video game hall of fame in his Japanese crossover fighting game). Being a fan of Dragon Quest and Geno was kind of suffering for a long while and I generally felt embarrassed to be a Geno fan during that time period. In general being a "centrist" Geno fan (I hate to use that because of how it has certain connotations these days, but it describes me best as a fan of Geno and lots of other properties and Square Enix characters at this point) ends up getting me in a lot of trouble and discussions having to defend either Geno or some other bigger series...

I do wonder just how many Fighters Pass' were actually sold. It was apparently enough to warrant ANOTHER couple of fighters at least and maybe even a whole nother Fighters Pass. I mean it says a lot when Sakurai mentioned that the budget was running out only to turn around and announce even more characters. It must've sold DAMN well.

I bet the sales of this next pass, if it is a pass, will be the deciding factor of if we get another one. That seems to be the way Bandai-Namco has gone about doing their DLC with Tekken so I won't be surprised.

Speaking of Namco. Who are we thinking is more likely? KOS-MOS or Lloyd? I'm totally down for either.
I feel like the budget concerns is more of just Nintendo telling Sakurai he has to have a stopping point on DLC somewhere, as in he can't get 30 songs from Sugiyama's expensive ass or that he can't spend money making 3 different movesets for Joker and his different Personas. I think it's more of a limitation so that he doesn't go absolutely insane with everything and has to actually get things done in a reasonable amount of time. I mean, what we've got as far as DLC is already stunning as hell, especially compared to Smash 4, so it's clearly still a meaty budget that Sakurai is taking full advantage of.

I'd say the Fighter's Pass is selling quite well, and Nintendo is more than willing to give Sakurai the money for another Fighter's Pass or additional fighters as long as they're selling well and Ultimate is the "in" Smash game (so basically until they decide another Smash needs to be made). The budget is just there as an upper limit so that they're not just continually pouring more money into Sakurai's insane vision for the game (cause I mean, they have clearly already given him truck loads to make Ultimate happen as it did). It's why I think they can probably continue DLC for a while longer than just another pass. Sakurai wants to do it. It sells well and the fans want it. There's no reason to be investing in a future Smash Bros. title since you wouldn't want one until the next system and that's still a few years away. Nintendo likes the huge press and continued hype that feeds into Smash as an evergreen title that keeps selling and then promotes all of their other titles. And they'll only get to do all of these huge crossovers this one time more than likely. So yeah, as someone who expected just the original Fighter's Pass when Sakurai was talking in his book, I've starkly changed my stance when they went all in on more fighters. And personally, I really hope they continue the passes so we keep getting loads of additional content and I just have to make a one time purchase.

Also, Lloyd is my pick as Tales is another big Japanese IP I want in Smash and he actually does do pretty well on polls too, so he's a wanted character. But I've got no issue with KOS-MOS and she's a way to promote the Xenoblade series through a third party, so either one would make me happy at this point. And Tekken just seems too big to ignore at a certain point haha.

So uh..... on the upcoming 1 year Anniversary of the November Direct, I made a thing. Think "Alternate Universes" of Smash newcomers.
You know you can't sub out an Echo for full fighters, right? If this was going to be accurate you'd have to sub Akuma or Sakura for Ken to make this work.

i don't know any sword girls unless your talking FE
I got you, fam:

"Literal who" they would cry:

And no doubt that she'd bring the ice salt.

Aside from Nightmare/Siegfried, these two gals were the main focus at least one game or another. Bonus points because the latter has a signature crybaby attack, to mock her would-be haters:

Her name is literally a sword:

I doubt she'd get hate, but technically she's a (dual) sword wielder. 11/10. Would main:

Same for her:

A high tier sword wielding echo who already has data in the game (most likely). She will be praised by many, hated by others:

Then there's Sakura or Gemini (Sakura Wars), Jeanne (Bayonetta), Officer Howard, etc.

I support all of them, btw.

God, I know, right? It made me insanely embarrassed to be a Geno fan. Having to defend the Geno fan base by saying we weren't all that bad was irritating. Having to defend Erdrick and his fans because of how iconic and deserving DQ is was irritating. They were things that shouldn't have had to have been done, The instant pot shots taken at Erdrick were terrible, and the good Geno fans were thrown under the bus by the bad ones painting a terrible look over them. Nothing was okay and it was all stupid.

I'm so glad we're over that now. Besides, Hero was a pretty great addition to the roster. Yeah, I'm hoping Geno comes back someday, too, but I'm not about to denounce Hero just because he's not Geno. You gotta admit that he's pretty freaking cool and Munchie is THE CUTEST EVER.

And then you could also have Rex and Mythra/Pyra, for the ultimate anime sword boy and anime sword girls combination. Also works I guess!

I want anime sword boys too but because I like Anime Sword boys *points to avatar*

Make that sword boys and girls if you want to be more broader.
I want anime sword girls too, especially if they have orange hair, wears a white robe and shoots magic. Or blue hair with a ponytail, wears a pink kimono and a red hakama, and uses a katana and a mecha :)

LBP seems to have fallen a bit thanks to LBP3, but yes it certainly is a big name for Sony. Horizon Zero Dawn is fresh but they're no doubt just getting started so that wouldn't make it in this scenario. R&C, Nathan, Kratos and Sackboy also would be too big along with Joel and Ellie. That leaves Cole, Delsin and Fetch from InFamous at the edge, with Jak/Daxter, Sly and a handful of PS1 era characters as free game. Of course that's assuming they even agree to letting a character get in, as well as only focusing on smaller names. If I were any higher up at SCE, I'd pick a big name character from any era PS2 and up. And if I had a grudge with Square, I'd send Chloe Frazier since she's clearly the Lara Croft of Uncharted.

Are you referring to Celica or is there some other anime sword girl redhead wearing a white robe using magic? I would love Celica in Smash though, how unlikely it may be.

Smash is the #3 best-selling game on the console, so Fighters' Passes are basically a license for Nintendo to print money. I think they could easily keep them going for the full lifespan of the game if they really wanted to.

What about this girl? She’s kinda spoilery, but she has been in PXZ2 alongside Ryu, Ken, Chrom, Lucina, and current Smash hopeful KOS-MOS. Plus she is in Shulk’s FS, and you know that didn’t stop Chrom:

She could be perfect for a Echo or semi clone of Elma

Being on a Nintendo console isn't actually a requirement so all Sony would have to do is give Nintendo the rights to use the characters, Unless that has changed since Brawl (Persona 5 Scramble and Persona Q2 certainly has made it questionable).

But really a Sony character getting in all hinges on whether Sony doesn't like being left out and would rather not make a PSASBR 2 which I'm sure they would not after they cannibalised the first one.

That's actually pretty sinister. "Well let them give our dead franchise exposure so we can revive it with less hassle. Then, we'll use said character's Smash moveset as a proof of concept for our N E W PSABR! Muahahaha!!!"

I think it's down to the PlayStation 1 era of characters that Sony will allow into Smash Bros. I don't know, I just want Tomba to come back!

It's possible. If we assume the Switch has a lifespan of 5 years that would be March 2022 as a cut off, the final DLC character of the Pass will come before March next year and we've had 6 so far, albiet with one being a bonus that was partially developed in main dev time. So if we assume 5 characters a year, March 2020 to March 2022 makes for another 10 characters. It matches up with the World of Light data.

So in total we'd get 90 playable characters (92 if Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon are counted seperately) and according to the Fighter Numbers, 85 Different movesets. (assuming no more echos)

I still expect there to only be three more characters after the pass ends but it's possible.

I love the **** out of some Xenoblade, but bruh...the whole series is full of dumb anime ******** and filler.

It's really not all that uncommon.

Uh-huh. What's some instances of filler in the main stories of 1 and X, then?

My favorite anime sword boy is the one with the fur armor and horned helmet that shouts a ton.

I wouldn't say filler, but they do have anime tropes, just from different genres and times.

X's Issue is more that the game is only really the first act of a story. It sets up the world, conflict, and characters before telling you there's a bigger problem and then the game ends. It's a good game, but the side content is where it shines, not the main story. If there were sequels that took the worldbuilding and went somewhere with it I might feel differently.

If X gets those sequels, I could see Elma being a lot more popular with people and potentially showing up more prominently in crossovers, etc. Her premise (and that of Xenoblade X) is good. It just needs more time in the cooker.

Yeah yeah, we get it. XB2 is the literal anti-christ and Rex and Pyra getting in would be the worst thing to happen to Ultimate possible.
