I think the character who's probably affected the most is 2B because there's almost no way you can make a version of her where you can't look up her skirt.
Just leave the skirt off.
Can't look up her skirt if she's not wearing one.

As far as CP5 goes, my money is still on Capcom - the older Phoenix rumor, the one that only gave today's date for Terry and said that Phoenix is #5 is still alive, so I'm kinda hopeful.
Is that from the 4Chan leak? If the Frogger one turned out to be fake then the Phoenix and KOS-MOS "leaks" are most definitely fake as well.

Sakurai's comment about choosing characters based on how they would play rather than how popular they are killed the argument that they're not popular or recognizable enough to be in Smash.

Now that I've calmed down a little...

Heihachi and Bamco in general just shot up for sure. Whether that's Lloyd, Velvet, KOS-MOS, Heihachi, or even Solaire or Agumon, that's all very promising. Now with that said, if it is Heihachi I could see it being saved for the next additional DLC wave.

It's also worth noting that 2B is still on the table as she has a censored version that covers her legs as depicted in Final Fantasy 14 and Sakurai recently met with Square reps and Yoko Taro himself.

I'm praying fighter 5 is Phoenix Wright still - that leak is still alive. But at this point it's everyone's game. The only super sus thing is Virtua Fighter returning but Tekken being absent.

Also shoutouts to Sakurai prioritizing fun over recognizability. Here's how Style Savvy can still win-

Anyway, it's almost break time at work. I'm off to play as my boy Terry and download all those SNK costumes.

The complete absence of Namco Bandai Mii Fighter costumes makes a fighter from them highly likely, especially considering that they are still the only veteran 3rd party company to only have 1 fighter representing them at the current moment.

I have the outfit (after 10+ runs of the raid... finally). It is not really censored. Nor is 2P censored.
There's still a high slit in the skirt with visible panties.

The general lack of Namco Bandai Mii Fighters suggest we'll eventually get a Namco character... the question is... who?

If Scott Menville’s NDA and the Tales trademark thingies are for Lloyd, it’ll be him. But since they’re bringing back all Mii costumes from 4 so far that weren’t of already playable characters as DLC, there’s a chance Lloyd’s costume may return, and Heihachi’s as well.

Some recent rumors are pointing to KOS-MOS, which would be a perfect way of ending on Monolith Soft representation too, since Rex’s costume started off the pass. Plus in a recent MS 20th anniversary artwork, KOS-MOS is front and center

In a perfect world it would be Reiji from the X zone series. Since that game covers games from Namco, Capcom, Sega and Nintendo.

Inb4 it's someone incredibly out there like from summon night or God eater

One thing I'm getting from Terry's gameplay is: there is still so much that can be done for fighting game characters.

I love what they did for the Hungry Wolf and for Ryu and Ken before him, but... their mechanics, in fact, barely scratch the surface of what we could get from fighting games as a whole - like that one tilt-based Heihachi moveset someone made to mimick a limb-based system or a super bar based character that meshes inputs with resource management.

Here's hoping that more of them come out to play!

I just played some matches with Terry and he's so fun. Doing chain combos finishing with Buster Wolf is so absurdly pleasant.

Yeah, I agree.

About costumes, I think Heihachi is now very likely, not for FP5 but for future DLC characters.

They can always use the black hole effect like with peach.

I don't really know. Namco Bandai has a ton of franchises to choose from.
I think the choice is clear:

Remember, Heihachi was added to Pac Man's taunt as well. And if it isn't stopping Heihachi, it sure as **** isn't stopping the Prince!

There was a problem fetching the tweet

Yeah, I gotta agree where Heihachi's absence here was rather glaring.

I can get why we haven't seen Lloyd or Gil, since they're micellaneous characters and could easily just pop up anytime, but with this guy, it's clear the Mii costumes batch approach was another tribute to fighting games, so him not popping up is strange.

I'm thinking that Namco Bandai might want his costume to come with a Namco Bandai character, if he is a costume again.

Also, Heihachi’s costume in 4 originally dropped with Ryu, along with costumes of Akira Yuki and Jacky, and THOSE TWO returned.

Lloyd COULD have returned with Hero since Hero’s a JRPG character (wasn’t Lloyd available with Cloud? I forget; I do know Geno was) but Hero’s Miis were entirely Dragon Quest focused in particular, not even the Chocobo hat returned

Heihachi Mii Costume could return if Namco gets another character as Lloyd or KOS-MOS, but certainly his absence is weird when the new Mii Costumes were all about fighting game characters.
I can see his costume returning with the next fighter if it's another Namco character, but if FP5 isn't a Namco character I think Heihachi is the most likely Namco rep for future DLC, at least for me.

I don't know if any of Smash 4's 3rd Party Mii Fighter costumes would be promoted to fighters, especially considering that they might be focused on bringing them all back.

first off this direct gave us a real sakurai rule: he will not include a character if its accurate depiction will influence the rating.maiis not like bayonetta. you can tone bayo down and still have her be bayo plus at default she is fully clothed. mai dresses as she does to distract her opponents.
second thing of significance how fun a character is to play in sakurai's mind is the most important i know some people are heavily pushing for doomguy but Samus is not a very popular character in terms of usage already people are iffy on zoners/gun-based characters already. i dont think doom guy will be the last one. i think it would be Llyod, a capcom rep, or laura croft. that's in order from most to least likely.

Laura croft and Sepiroth remain my two most wanted characters.

Heihachi being absent certainly is suspicious.

Nope. None whatsoever. Not Heihachi, not Lloyd, not Gil, nobody from any other Namco franchises...
Something from Namco has to be coming somewhere down the line. Despite being the main developers behind the game, they have very, very little when it comes to representation. No Mii Costumes, a very low number of music tracks, a very low number of spirits, and only one character while other companies like SEGA and Capcom are now hitting their third in Ultimate all either mean that Bandai Namco are just some of the most humble developers in the business (which honestly could be a possibility) or we're getting another Namco character eventually.

The most likely right now would probably either be Lloyd or Heihachi in my opinion, but I've always thought that the less talked about Namco picks would be the most interesting:
  • The Prince of All Cosmos or The King of All Cosmos from Katamari Damacy could both easily have very creative movesets and bring a whole ton of great music with them. Royal Rainbow would definitely have to be the Up-B.
  • Yoshimitsu is an icon of both Tekken and Soul Calibur, which would cover both of Namco's main 3D fighters. Plus, he's already a really unique character on his own. We don't exactly have a tentacle ninja with a helicopter sword on the roster yet.
  • Anything from Dark Souls would be super awesome, considering it very rarely gets any love in other Namco franchises
  • Haruka Amami from THE iDOLM@STER is an absolute never ever pick, but I would absolutely lose my **** for her. I imagine a potential moveset of hers would be similar to Wii Fit Trainer's, being a wacky fighter centered around singing and dancing rather than yoga poses. Plus, once again, we'd get some god-tier music.
  • Don-chan from Taiko no Tatsujin is another very similar never ever pick of mine. He'd probably be some wacky taiko bachi stick dual wielder, using them to beat everyone over the head like a drum. And of course, coming from a rhythm game, we'd get some incredible music with him.
I don't think any of these characters have any shot in hell, but I'd love to see a lot of them anyway.

If you make her a multi-character fighter a la Bowser Jr. it wouldn't work as well, but if it's specifically Haruka, and Haruka alone, you could also get weaponized clumsiness. Tripping can be a good thing this time!

idk if decrying Doomguy and then supporting Lara Croft is consistent when her signature weapon is dual pistols lol I do think a good takeaway though is that he's prioritizing fun movesets over popularity which helps underdog characters like Reimu or KOS-MOS.

Edit: And to be honest, I support that 100% because just throwing out hitboxes that look different but function the same as 5 other characters on the roster is just fanservice and not really "fun". Before this DLC I only vaguely knew about Terry and could recognize him, but after playing him a little, I think he's pretty darn fun. So even though I wasn't a fan of his previously, I'll still get something out of him because he's so well-designed.

So far every DLC stage seems to have some type of gimmick. I wonder which stages could do something 'new' for FP5.

So apparently Terry’s codename is Dolly

anyone know the significance of that?

I haven't had a formal chance to try Terry yet, but man that presentation was something. You could really feel Sakurai's love for SNK throughout that entire presentation.

I expected Terry to be codenamed jane because of the ponytail but it turns out to be dolly.
I'm thinking that codename jane may turn out to be a grammatical error of jack (Joker's codename).

A Namco rep to me seems like the most likely character for FP5 with the lack of Namco costumes. Mainly a Lloyd/Tales rep based on the NoA source saying Tales news was coming. Even if it's not #5, after it is still likely.

I still don't buy that costume leak. There's still no DMCA of the "leak" mirrors on Youtube. And even though it took a few days for the Pokemon SW/SH leaks to be taken down it was because it happened on the weekend where the employees are packing it up for the week. And the leaks started to be taken down when everyone went back to work on Monday.

If she were actually planned to be playable they coulda changed her design a bit. They ain't about to go through the trouble of redesigning a character for a background element.
Mai Shiranui was designed purely on sex appeal; changing her design misses the point

There's a reason she's had the same design for years and years
