Octoling’s victory jingle HAS to be Test Passed!, no question

as for Elma...
Broke: Uncontrollable segment (copies off of Shulk using YWKON too much imo)
Woke: THEMEX segment from 4:22 - 4:27 in the song (THEMEX is for all intents and purposes considered Elma’s theme)
NEMOUSU秘OUS (Mysterious/The Secret) may also be considered another theme for Elma since the E3 2014 has it playing when Elma is introduced, in a few cutscenes that regards very important revelations about Elma and with the second half Affinity and Story Missions, it plays often during deep conversations between the playable characters of Team Tatsu Elma.

I think the fact that Monster Hunter World blew up right before Ultimate came out and that Wave 2 of DLC doesn't really have many defined (or any TBH) rules means that Monster Hunter is back on the table for playable.
But why suddenly have Monster Hunter later when they had the opportunity to do so when Rathalos was in Base game as a boss? One of the reasons why I don't think he/she is getting in now.

Considering the fact Sakurai literally confirmed that there is in fact another pass in the works I'd say no, no it isn't lol.
A pass was never confirmed. We just got the generic, "more fighters" are coming.

I feel like if we were to get a Sony character it'd be one of their lesser ones. No way is Sony going to let one of their big boys play with the other kids. They're too prideful for it (why PS4 crossplay took literal years to happen). I could see Kat getting in because of this. Her series isn't up there with Sony's mega-hits, and I feel like Sakurai could work wonders with a moveset based on gravity shifts.

This thought process totally isn't fueled by my desire to see Kat in the game. Nooooope.
I adore Gravity Rush... but Sony has done more or less everything they can to scrub it from people's memories short of removing it from stores. They're both great games and it's a damn shame, but being an original Vita game with an extremely limited physical release on PS4 of the first game helped contribute to it kind of being a DOA series. I hope they give it another shot one day, but Sony isn't super good at returning to their old IPs...

But why suddenly have Monster Hunter later when they had the opportunity to do so when Rathalos was in Base game as a boss? One of the reasons why I don't think he/she is getting in now.
Because Monster Hunter World came out and blew everyone's expectations away twice over to become Capcom's single best selling title of all time after Rathalos was initially decided upon in the base game, and a huge part of that was finally breaking out into the West to introduce tons of new people to the series. And beyond that, there was clearly limited room for characters in the base game and seemingly only room for one brand new unique third party fighter, so Castlevania just got priority.

There's plenty of reason to change your mind on any decisions from the base game such as upgrading Spirits to playable fighters and Rathalos doesn't conflict with any elements of including a Monster Hunter rep and actually just makes them a better represented franchise overall. I don't see why Rathalos' appearance has to be this issue that Monster Hunter can't get in at this point.

That and the other Sony IP's she'd have to contend with as well besides Kratos, Nathan Drake and Sackboy if Sony were to get a rep.

Only thing I know about Kat is that she looks absolutely stylin in the 2B costume.
So yeah, I don't see Kratos or Nathan Drake wearing this, so clearly there's no contest here.

He confirmed that there will be additional characters after the pass, not that we were getting a second pass (which could be the case). We don't fully know the nature of the post-FP DLC yet, unless I've missed something?
That's honestly the safest end scenario though it'd be weird to hype up the fact we're getting more fighters past the fighter's pass and only end up getting two more fighters at best. Realistically a full on pass makes more sense in the long run then the opposite. Plus Smash is a huge cash cow for Nintendo it's safe to say they'd want to milk it's popularity as much as possible.

1. Carmen Sandiego (Really though, why?)
I'm glad you asked. Why not?! She'd represent early PC gaming and her franchise is the pinnacle of the 'edutainment' genre; she's a pioneer and still the prime example of it. They not only somehow managed to be fun during a time when most early computer games simply weren't, they were also educational. They've sold millions of them; that is quite a feat. She's also appeared on a few Nintendo consoles, too! All of this, and she has a bunch of different educational TV shows that are way better than they have any right to be.

Moreover, the thing about Carmen is that she not only has a legacy, but she's never faded into obscurity. She has a signature look that crept its way into pop culture. Whether you recognize her from comics, TV shows, or her games, you know who she is. People from like... 3 different generations can recognize her from something. That is another accomplishment. Especially for a video game character.

I doubt there's ever going to be another Ballot tbh though Sakurai could always change his mind as he had with "Ridley is too big for Smash!".

Had to really backread everything here so I wasn't able to catch up.

But I'm glad I slept. If I was there it could've been one hell of a ****show that'll lead me to getting banned.

But given that companies always go with their most iconic characters/mascots its more likely to be Kratos, Nathan Drake or Sackboy. I'd love to see Kat but I don't see her getting chosen over those three.

How iconic is Banjo and Kazooie compared to Master Chief or Steve? for Microsoft?

Even then she'd still have to compete with others around her level that Sony owns.

Also she lacks the popularity (Nowhere on the level as other properties) and demand to get in. At least Terry had some demand along with legacy going for him.
She made it to the top eight of one poll among Sony and some third-party characters and got her own history of crossovers.

I mean, you want to know which characters people want and not ever doing a new ballot means tons of new characters and characters that have more recently sprung up in terms of support are much more likely to be ignored in favor of the old standard bearers of the Smash 4 era. A lot has changed since then and I think there's a lot of benefit to seeing that sort of thing if you've got the resources for it.

Except Banjo hasn't always been Microsoft. Doesn't count.

And Kat above Kratos? I knew Gravity Rush was popular but not THAT popular damn to be above God of War. Whelp nevermind then.

Even I am quite curious. This baffled me on the level of "Lara Croft isn't popular in Japan" stuff.

People not knowing her origins is why the old "Video Game Reunion" web series ended with a Carmen Sandiego cameo for shock value. The cast included characters like Mario/Mega Man/Link/Simon Belmont/Peach/etc.

People from like... 3 different generations can recognize her from something. That's quite an accomplishment. Especially for a video game character. So, is she likely? Probably not. I wouldn't say she's impossible, however. There's no denying that she has a lot going for her.

I'm a little surprised that as a Sackboy supporter, you aren't keeping an open mind. She's even had games on Nintendo consoles.

Anyway, on the subject of Carmen, her games' soundtracks are actually pretty good. China, Morocco, and Brazil from Where in the World are three standouts, IMO. I'd love remixes of these:
Wow, I did not expect all this stuff about her, I guess your right though, but I was under the impression her game was small.

If we're going by that logic, she might pave the way for true-blue PC gaming reps.

secretly clamours for her because we can get DotA reps in Smash, she'll open teh gate for those characters.

The Netflix show is way better than it has any right to be. I highly recommend it.

No doubt it had some flops, but the series sold a good 6+ million copies. Not bad at all for an American educational video game.

An earlier comment pointed out that smash 4 had stage DLC and it's weird to me that this game hasn't gotten it.

With all this talk about Carmen Sandiego, it'll be the most surreal timeline if she AND Hatsune Miku were both in Smash. That's a rivalry I didn't know I wanted to see until now.

Why pick Carmen when there are better point and click reps like the best superhero ever, Pajama Sam?

It's gotten it in the form of character packs.

Although I imagine standalone stage DLC to be a thing after the first season pass.

What I'm hoping we get is music DLC. Sans was a good start, but I'd like an actual pack or two, if that makes sense. I'd legit buy a handful of songs lol.

I know they're not video game characters but I thought of Sam & Max.:GCD:

This is likely because Super Smash Bros. for Wii U didn't have a stage come with each character, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate does.
None of the first parties have a stage. It's reasonable to think that only third parties will come with stages in Ultimate. Except Astral Chain.

Are they not? I thought they originated from point and click games.
They started out as comic book characters, but given many people know them only through the games you'd probably be forgiven for thinking otherwise

If Hayabusa isn't #5... I don't think he's ever getting in. I dunno why but I have this gut feeling that either he's number 5 or bust because as time goes on it seems like he's becoming less and less likely.

Luckily we have a few leakers that have said that they've heard Hayabusa so maybe, just maybe he's the final one. And I get it people want a female rep and I definitely understand that but I've been cheering on Hayabusa since Pre-Wii U days, probably around the time it was announced that Razor's Edge was a launch exclusive, y'know? It would just be a big win for me... and after that besides the Doom Slayer I literally have everyone I want. Would I like Geno? Sure. Do I want Isaac? Definitely but I've come to terms that this isn't his game. Rayman? Definitely but I think he always has a decent shot. At that point, after Hayabusa and Doom Slayer, I'm just going to be able to sit back and enjoy the ride (I mean I kind of already do because I got both Simon AND Snake this time but, y'know)

I disagree. He'd be an expected but nice way to end the fighter pass. However, I think he's likely in general and is still likely even outside the fighter pass.

I'm confused as to why this is the do or die moment for Hayabusa. Like, he'd be getting in on legacy and Koei Tecmo continues to be a large partner for Nintendo, so I feel like he could show up at practically any time...

I dunno, I think despite the fact he hasn't had a game in a long while, Hayabusa is still "Mr. Koei" in the same way Terry is "Mr. SNK."

Remember they still use him in all Koei crossovers, and he even makes appearances in games like NIOH as an incredibly difficult superboss.

Unrelated to DLC speculation, but still Super Smash Bros. Ultimate related; this Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament at Nintendo Live in Japan sure has some promising young talents playing. Though the tournament is with items and FS meter on, but there have been some kids that have made some sick plays.
