Hell, even if I’m not particularly fond of a character that’s DLC, I’ll buy them anyway cause I like the feeling of having a complete roster

To be fair, people are expecting Bethesda to include Doom over any of their in-house stuff.I would expect that Arc System Works would prefer Guilty Gear in Smash if they're including a character. Guilty Gear is basically their premiere franchise that defines them as a company and has for over 20 years. River City/Kunio isn't their franchise, they just own the rights to it, so I actually don't see them going for it at all when Guilty Gear is their baby.
I mean, it'd be like asking for Tomb Raider over Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest. It just doesn't really define the company and or represent them as a big Japanese production house in Smash in the right way.
And the funny thing about that iswhile also claiming that Arthur from Ghost N' Goblins deserves it more
I'm not a big Ghost and Goblins fan.
I haven't seen any spamming from them in the past ten or so pages.Look, when you have to deal with someone barging into support threads to ***** about how their character shouldn't be playable, that's when it starts to become annoying. Literally all this person does is make nonsensical arguments about why certain characters aren't "iconic" enough to be in a game featuring an obscure NES add-on and just recently added a platformer mascot that's been dead for over a decade. There's nothing wrong with disliking characters, but do you not see how spamming **** about it constantly doesn't get old after a while?
I share this sentiment. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it’s underwhelming. But I’d rather have a complete roster than not.Hell, even if I’m not particularly fond of a character that’s DLC, I’ll buy them anyway cause I like the feeling of having a complete roster
He already said that he'd download them to get the slot for another character. And let's face it, modding something out of a game because you don't like it when it literally doesn't have to effect you in the least bit (I mean, Joker is DLC, just don't buy him if you dislike it) is kind of the definition of petty. The solution to this individual's problem already exists.
I mean if that’s the case he really probably shouldn’t be using Smashboards at all to be frank. As someone who has encountered this individual several times, my personal advice is to leave them be. They're annoying and make no sense but they also don't appear to respond to logic and are likely just a kid with a tenuous grasp on social interactions.
The only other viable candidate I could see is Billy & Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon, another franchise that is owned by ArcSys now funnily enough.Honestly, I'm at a point where I trust Sakurai enough to make fun characters out of just about anyone, so there's no plausable character inclusion that I could really see myself getting mad over. Yeah, I'm kinda hoping the last Fighters Pass character isn't Hayabusa just because I don't want the rumors to be validated, but I'm sure my initial disappointment would immediately go away once I see him in action. Point is, I have more important things to deal with in life that don't involve characters in a fictional fighting game, so I don't see much reason to start crusades against certain characters just because I don't like them.
Also, this is the first time I'm hearing about ArcSys owning River City. I thought some other company owned that series, but I guess I was wrong about that. Even as someone who loves River City Ransom, I never really thought about Kunio's chances that much, but I'd absolutely be down for it. Beat-em-ups don't have any representation in the roster, and I can't think of any other choices besides River City to represent the genre
Yeah, I think River City/Kino-Kun and Double Dragon have a pretty odd ownership history. Also, this is the first time I'm hearing about ArcSys owning River City. That's a fair point, but there's also the fact that we're talking Doom and its the father of the modern FPS. Bethesda has also embraced DOOM to a degree that you generally don't see when companies acquires the rights to non in house titles (which is also what they chose to do with Fallout). River City/Kunio doesn't exactly get the same claim to fame when competing against Guilty Gear.To be fair, people are expecting Bethesda to include Doom over any of their in-house stuff.
Streets of Rage? Double Dragon? Final Fight? Battletoads if we're getting adventurous? Honestly, River City would be near the bottom of my list for representing beat-em-ups when compared to those options.Honestly, I'm at a point where I trust Sakurai enough to make fun characters out of just about anyone, so there's no plausable character inclusion that I could really see myself getting mad over. With this, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Astral Chain, I have a feeling we will be seeing more similar stuff from Nintendo in the games to come.On a different topic, it turns out Super Kirby Clash of all games has a lyrical credits theme
Nintendo's stepping up it's music game this generation.
If Sakurai can take the Hero, who is arguably the most generic, archetypal, and classical JRPG anime swordfighter, and turn him into arguably the most unique newcomer on the roster, he can most certainly take Hayabasa and make him stand out in ways we never really thought about.Honestly, I'm at a point where I trust Sakurai enough to make fun characters out of just about anyone, so there's no plausable character inclusion that I could really see myself getting mad over. You think they’ll pull a Ryu/Ken and make BOTH his final smash? Ergo, one close range and one long range? Or even one in air and one on ground?Anyway, uh.
I've been seeing some speculah on Terry's moveset so I figured I'd get your guy's opinion on it.
My thoughts on the specials:
Neutral B (tap): Power Wave
Neutral B (press*): Round Wave
Side B: Burn Knuckle
Air Side B: Power Dunk
Up B: Rising Tackle
Down B: Crack Shoot
*or qcf input?
I've seen some say that you could give him Power Geyser or even Buster Wolf as one of his smash attacks, but that seems like something they'd reserve for final smashes a la Ryu and Ken?
It all depends on how Sakurai and their current owners choose to represent them.Quick question on Double Dragon since I'm not oh-so familiar with the game:
If Billy and Jimmy were to be in Smash, would 1 of them be an alt or an echo fighter?
I mean, maybe? He's got the supers to accommodate for it, unless Terry has a super meter where you manually input supers and his Final Smash is something like this? You think they’ll pull a Ryu/Ken and make BOTH his final smash? Ergo, one close range and one long range? Or even one in air and one on ground?
Since we don't need Tracer to be playable, it makes sense for her to be an assist trophy, since it's netter than nothing. If we really don’t NEED Tracer, why have her in Smash at all?
Well I'm enjoying Terry's inclusion. You know what I would do if I didn't like Joker or Terry or some future third-party they add?
Not pay money to put them in my game.
Ah, Streets of Rage II, this song brings back memories of me and my friend playing through it on his Genesis repeatedly several years back.If we're talking about beat-em-ups, don't leave out Final Fight and Streets of Rage. Mike Haggar in particular is as memetic and beloved by Capcom fans as Captain Falcon is.
Outside of the upcoming 4 Streets of Rage has been dead as heck for like 25 years. Final Fight has basically the same issue its really a dead franchise and basically has been completely absorbed by Street Fighter at this point. I think that would knock it out of adding new game worlds to smash. Same with Battletoads regardless of the memes.Streets of Rage? Double Dragon? Final Fight? Battletoads if we're getting adventurous? Honestly, River City would be near the bottom of my list for representing beat-em-ups when compared to those options.
I think I'd first petition for Haggar to make it into a Street Fighter game for once. I get the story excuse that he's too busy running Metro City, but don't then go and make Mayor Cody playable. notthatIdon'twantcodyplayabletooIf we're talking about beat-em-ups, don't leave out Final Fight and Streets of Rage. To be honest I think River City and Double Dragon are more important when it comes to their respective genre than Guilty Gear when it comes to its own. That's a fair point, but there's also the fact that we're talking Doom and its the father of the modern FPS. I'd say alts for sure.Quick question on Double Dragon since I'm not oh-so familiar with the game:

If Smash were to have an original character, I concede that 007 Sakurai is a top-notch idea. All of these talks about beat-em-ups are making me more hyped for Streets of Rage 4. I'm glad they're kind of making a comeback of sorts, too (River City Girls is fantastic). Now I kinda wish Ultimate had a mode where you can just roam around and pummel stuff cooperatively with up to 4 players.
More on topic, my sister is a huge GoldenEye fan and asked how possible it'd be if Smash had a bootleg James Bond (named 'Top Secret') but with Sakurai's likeness as the very last DLC character for the game for free. I laughed at how silly it sounded, but then I realized that'd low-key be great.
I 100% support this. Mayor Haggar is just too cool a character not to put in a new Capcom game or even in Super Smash Bros as a guest. (And heck, he'd be a shoo-in for reelection since he helped to clean up Metro City by literally fighting the gangs.)I think I'd first petition for Haggar to make it into a Street Fighter game for once. I get the story excuse that he's too busy running Metro City, but don't then go and make Mayor Cody playable. notthatIdon'twantcodyplayabletoo
Put him in Smash, put him in Street Fighter, make a new Final Fight or Versus game. Hell make a new Saturday Night Slam Masters game. Do something with the fighting mayor. lol
They'd probably give him KOF14 Volcano Star Dunk for the final smash as it fits the "flashy" parameter. Maybe Triple Power Geyser, but like, Ike already basically does that so it'd be kinda lame.Anyway, uh.

I see you've completely understood the message of my post.Well I'm enjoying Terry's inclusion.
Personally, I would wager the Chosen Undead, Solaire, or Artorias having better chances of being the Dark Souls rep.Hey guys, longtime lurker, first time poster.
What does everyone think of the likelihood of Dragonslayer Ornstein from Dark Souls being DLC?
I don't think I've seen him even proposed in these boards, and I think he could be a serious sleeper pick.
Ornstein is the only character who appears in all three Dark Souls games (at least in some form), he's got loads of moveset potential, he's one of the most recognizable bosses from a game about fighting bosses, and he's from one of the most memorable boss fight out of all three games.
To be clear, I don't think Dark Souls as a whole is an incredibly likely game to choose a character from, but I think Ornstein's got a pretty solid slot.
He's a dark horse character from a dark horse game, and a top notch pick in my opinion.
Like I get it, it’s fun to troll, but at least be crafty with it and not be obvious.Since we don't need Tracer to be playable, it makes sense for her to be an assist trophy, since it's netter than nothing.
Well I'm enjoying Terry's inclusion.
Isn't Ornstein really big? I think Solaire is most likely (since he's popular and can also do everything the player character can), but if they were to put in a boss I think it would most likely be GwynHey guys, longtime lurker, first time poster.

I could see them adding the theme song regardless, kinda like how Afterburner theme song was included with Bayonetta. (I know the song appeared in her game, but still, it’s originated in a whole different IP).I really want Billy and Jimmy Lee in the game, for the simple reason that the Double Dragon Theme song would be awesome to fight to.
That would be the best way to do it. Just like Hero and his altsWhat if in Smash we had Kunio and he came with alts of Riki, Kyoko, and Misako?
I definitely agree that Chosen Undead is solid competition for Ornstein due to main character bias, but I personally would put Ornstein before Artorias and Solaire. Both only appear in the first game and one is behind the DLC paywall. (That said, I would definitely prefer Artorias over any other character since he's cool as hell).Personally, I would wager the Chosen Undead, Solaire, or Artorias having better chances of being the Dark Souls rep.
Gwyn would be dope! Ornstein is big but he's not a full on giant. I think if they made him as big as Gabondorf he'd work well enough.Isn't Ornstein really big?
