Speaking of which, how are they gonna handle the characters from the first game? Are they gonna get "BOTW-ified"? Are they gonna be DLC? Does it even matter? I don't know, I don't play these types of games...
I think it'll depend on how much sense a character makes in a normal Hyrule setting. People like Malon and Agitha shouldn't be overlooked because of that; they're normal people who could realistically be in a pre-Calamity BotW Hyrule (or any Zelda game, really) without us really questionning it.

But on the other hand, a major character exclusive to a specific game, such as Ruto, may not return since the plot likely doesn't involve merging timelines. Though Mipha might take some of her moves due to also being a Zora

Alternatively, we only get a few characters in the roster, but they have loads of weapons to make up for it.

Given the fact that Smash characters get free advertising through the various “Reaction videos” from Youtubers, I really doubt they’d drop a character without an announcement of when it’s happening beforehand.

I’m excited about the new Hyrule Warriors (would like to get it on launch day) but I’m not convinced it will lead to a Smash character other than Ryu Hayabusa due to continued work between Nintendo and Koei Tecmo. (This probably makes me sound confident in Ryu Hayabusa, but I’m not actually invested in the character lol).

The Breath of the Wild cast situations haven’t changed. While any of the Champions would be cool, why pick one over the other? BOTW Zelda was already turned down at the beginning of development, and I’m not entirely sure Nintendo would go for a 3rd Zelda for a DLC pick.

I wouldn’t rule it out but I really think applying a Smash connection to this is pushing it right now. My mind could change, but I’m not currently convinced.

Really though, super interesting idea to do a prequel to BOTW. Love that it’s a canonical tie in.

I wonder... what if we don't get an event for another week?
We do what we always do: Go berserk over it until it turns out to be a big case of **** IT, NOTHING, in which our glowing optimism immediately does a 180 and becomes crushing pessimism. At some point we'll wish we had more characters to talk about beyond the endless circle of Geno, Byleth, and the Pokemon of the Galar region, then either dismiss a new character suggested or just ignore them outright before going back to the Geno discussions we keep moping about, creating a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.

Unless, of course, we actually do get a new reveal, in which we throw a party. Sure, we'll go back to the defeatism soon enough, but the afterglow of a new fighter should last us for at least a couple weeks.

Bold of you to assume we won't be like this one week after said character comes out in regards to CP8 news:

Like, IMO, the most this could point to is maybe a Koei Tecmo character since Nintendo and them are super chummy right now, but not even that is guaranteed as Bamco is also extremely chummy with Nintendo and all they have still is Pac-Man.

Someone like Mipha would be heckin' sick, but I don't think her or any of the other Champions really have that great a shot TBH. I still stand by all the things I shared on this topic last time we talked about it.

Tbh, this is kinda why I find myself wanting more Spirit Events. Gives me more single-player stuff to do considering I don't have a Wifi adapter.

The reason I'm wondering isn't just because I think a September reveal is likely, but also because I don't know if the "Events" team is still working at the same pace.

On a sidenote: a shadowdrop sounds like a really bad deal considering how much attention Nintendo gets from reaction streams and videos, but at the same time... I've seen them do stuff that's several times more stupid than that.

I still don't think this argument makes much sense, especially when they're already playing favorites with the Pokémon starters.

If Nintendo really wanted to promote BotW through a Champion, I don't see why they'd let a fear of favoritism stop them. "We can't add them all so we won't add any of them," doesn't sound like something they'd be concerned about if their goal was simply promoting the BotW world. Unless they have a specific Champion in mind, they'd probably do what they did with ARMS and leave the decision up to Sakurai, who would likely work with Aonuma to make a choice.

Are people really still pissed after 8 months?

Damn, this community needs a collective chill pill.
It's a testament to how bored we are that we keep discussing someone that's already been out. I feel like the word "darkhorse" has begun to lose meaning in this thread because now everyone who isn't a part of the exclusive Geno/Byleth/Galar/Nintendo Direct club is a darkhorse because those four are all we talk about nowadays.

Yeah, that was eight whole months ago, how are people not over it? They need something else to focus their energy on.

So I welcome anyone who, instead, wants to join me in being mad that they included Dark Pit.

I mean, c'mon. **** that guy.

Let's assume it is inevitable that the next Sakurai Presents including the trailer for the next Smash fighter will be shadowdropped. How do you assume they'd handle naming the video? Directly call it something like "Mr. Sakurai Presents Ice Hockey Player", or wait 24 hours to replace the thumbnail and "???" with the actual character?

Impa is seemingly also in this game. Check the Impa thread.

Anyway! Hyrule Warriors 2 is EVERYTHING I NEEDED! I LOVE THIS!

Probably wait a bit. Seems like a smart move.

Then again, they did shadowdrop the information on Min Min (then still "an ARMS character") for the first time with no ceremony at all.

I dunno... Bandai Namco has been working on Nintendo IPs since the GameCube days and they didn't get a character until Smash 4, and even then it was specifically because of their help in Smash 4, so if they weren't doing that, we might not even have a single Namco rep right now.

If "continued work" really was an argument that "guaranteed" characters, I feel like we'd have gotten more than Pac-Man by now.

So I can't really see KT doing some work be a legitimate argument until proof of the contrary.

I wouldn’t say it’s really “proof” that we’re likely to get a KT character, but you must admit it doesn’t hurt the possibility.

Not to mention, we’re looking at Namco Bandai as a company that works/assists on Smash...While Koei Tecmo has worked on Zelda Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors AND Fire Emblem Three Houses, which suggests that they trust Koei Tecmo with their brands as of recent.

It’s not like a shoe-in point, and I didn’t suggest it to be. But it doesn’t hurt Koei Tecmo by any means.

What am I even saying...clearly Byleth is the KT rep!

Cmon Mr. Hahn. Don't become one of those people who automatically think any tiny portion of Nintendo-related news must correlate to Smash fighters. We already went through this **** with Paper Mario. :4pacman: I want Hayabusa a lot but that isn't gonna make me believe it's happening so soon.

Of course it doesn’t guarantee anything, but it doesn’t hurt the chances of a given character.

If it meant Smash related stuff, we’d probably be looking at like 15 characters getting into Smash because of collaborations.

I’ve just given Koei Tecmo some thought, because as a company they have barely anything in Smash Ultimate. Hayabusa also hits that classic character bit, and is essentially KT’s Terry Bogard.

We’ll just have to wait and see!

Also, that’s Mr. JONES to you!

No it doesn't hurt chances but Ryu Hayabusa seems like the kind of character Nintendo could've acquired for Smash at literally any point since Brawl were they so inclined.
For once, I agree with the cynic. :nifty:

Nintendo took control of the wheel of who's getting in the game. I wonder why they would pick Hayabusa. :191: I'd like to believe they owed KT a favor.

I do think this boosts Impa's chances going forward, as having a recent battle ready Nintendo owned design is going to be a big help for her, and I'm not just talking about for DLC.

Hyrule Warriors Impa is the only Impa I could see getting in the game if I must spit a hot take. Never understood her hype.

if it ain't tingle i ain't gonna mingle

imo:
  • Ocarina of Time Impa was not important...like at all.
  • Skyward Sword Impa missed her chance.
  • Hyrule Warriors Impa isn't owned by Nintendo.
  • Age of Calamity Impa is currently the only one with a shot.

Tingle is a big meh.

Well hot damn I never would've expected another Hyrule Warriors game to be announced, but here we are.

I thought I'd post this here cause it seems interesting to note on that 9/26 date:

There was a problem fetching the tweet

Anyways, with Age of Calamity being announced today, it's really surprising how much Koei-Tecmo has going for itself right now. They've had partnerships with Nintendo for almost a decade now, and as for their franchises currently, you got Atelier Ryza being the best selling game in the series and a sequel coming soon, Dynasty Warriors' 20th Anniversary being this year with 2 games being announced in the coming weeks, and the modern Ninja Gaiden trilogy being rumored for PS4 and Switch (though I have my doubts if it's actually coming or not). Pretty much any of these 3 franchises could potentially end up getting a Challenger Pack in Vol 2, and they all have their own separate merits behind them.

I hate Dark Pit just for being an echo fighter. If he had some actual differences like dealing more damage but also being easier to KO, I'd respect him.

That comment of mine above could have been worded a bit less affirmatively- I don’t mean to say that the new HW is absolutely leading to Hayabusa, just that it shows a sustained relationship with Koei Tecmo. It’s not that I think Hayabusa is some sort of shoe in character, but moreso that if there’s anything to it, it would probably be him.
-
In the meantime, anybody have any gut feelings about who the next character reveal will be? I find it difficult to make the call myself, but that’s largely because we don’t have much to go on.

My guess is: a video game character that brings an interesting moveset. dabs

No, but really. I feel as though it may be a non-Nintendo Fighter, but even that’s hard to say!

It took me two whole years to find any actual physical differences between Pit and Dark Pit.
Dark Pit doesn't have halos around his arm. That's it.
