Considering last week I'm not holding my breath....I wonder... what if we don't get an event for another week?
I think it'll depend on how much sense a character makes in a normal Hyrule setting. People like Malon and Agitha shouldn't be overlooked because of that; they're normal people who could realistically be in a pre-Calamity BotW Hyrule (or any Zelda game, really) without us really questionning it.Speaking of which, how are they gonna handle the characters from the first game? Are they gonna get "BOTW-ified"? Are they gonna be DLC? Does it even matter? I don't know, I don't play these types of games...
We do what we always do: Go berserk over it until it turns out to be a big case of **** IT, NOTHING, in which our glowing optimism immediately does a 180 and becomes crushing pessimism. At some point we'll wish we had more characters to talk about beyond the endless circle of Geno, Byleth, and the Pokemon of the Galar region, then either dismiss a new character suggested or just ignore them outright before going back to the Geno discussions we keep moping about, creating a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.I wonder... what if we don't get an event for another week?
Um...Byleth's already in the game?Byleth
Exactly, lol.Um...Byleth's already in the game?
Bold of you to assume we won't be like this one week after said character comes out in regards to CP8 news:We do what we always do: Go berserk over it until it turns out to be a big case of **** IT, NOTHING, in which our glowing optimism immediately does a 180 and becomes crushing pessimism. Unless, of course, we actually do get a new reveal, in which we throw a party. Sure, we'll go back to the defeatism soon enough, but the afterglow of a new fighter should last us for at least a couple weeks.
Like, IMO, the most this could point to is maybe a Koei Tecmo character since Nintendo and them are super chummy right now, but not even that is guaranteed as Bamco is also extremely chummy with Nintendo and all they have still is Pac-Man.Given the fact that Smash characters get free advertising through the various “Reaction videos” from Youtubers, I really doubt they’d drop a character without an announcement of when it’s happening beforehand.
I’m excited about the new Hyrule Warriors (would like to get it on launch day) but I’m not convinced it will lead to a Smash character other than Ryu Hayabusa due to continued work between Nintendo and Koei Tecmo.
The Breath of the Wild cast situations haven’t changed. While any of the Champions would be cool, why pick one over the other? BOTW Zelda was already turned down at the beginning of development, and I’m not entirely sure Nintendo would go for a 3rd Zelda for a DLC pick.
I wouldn’t rule it out but I really think applying a Smash connection to this is pushing it right now. My mind could change, but I’m not currently convinced.

Really though, super interesting idea to do a prequel to BOTW. Love that it’s a canonical tie in.
Are people really still pissed after 8 months?Exactly, lol.
Cries in Pac-ManI don't think that Sakurai would ever do that.

Tbh, this is kinda why I find myself wanting more Spirit Events. Gives me more single-player stuff to do considering I don't have a Wifi adapter. We do what we always do: Go berserk over it until it turns out to be a big case of **** IT, NOTHING, in which our glowing optimism immediately does a 180 and becomes crushing pessimism. I still don't think this argument makes much sense, especially when they're already playing favorites with the Pokémon starters. The Breath of the Wild cast situations haven’t changed. While any of the Champions would be cool, why pick one over the other?
It's a testament to how bored we are that we keep discussing someone that's already been out. I feel like the word "darkhorse" has begun to lose meaning in this thread because now everyone who isn't a part of the exclusive Geno/Byleth/Galar/Nintendo Direct club is a darkhorse because those four are all we talk about nowadays. Are people really still pissed after 8 months?
Damn, this community needs a collective chill pill.
Yeah, that was eight whole months ago, how are people not over it? They need something else to focus their energy on.Are people really still pissed after 8 months?

Impa is seemingly also in this game. Check the Impa thread.Given the fact that Smash characters get free advertising through the various “Reaction videos” from Youtubers, I really doubt they’d drop a character without an announcement of when it’s happening beforehand.

Dark Pit? More like Dark S***.Yeah, that was eight whole months ago, how are people not over it? They need something else to focus their energy on.
So I welcome anyone who, instead, wants to join me in being mad that they included Dark Pit.
I mean, c'mon. **** that guy.
Yeah Diddy, I'm gonna start stanning Impa with ya.Impa is seemingly also in this game. Check the Impa thread.
Anyway! Hyrule Warriors 2 is EVERYTHING I NEEDED! I LOVE THIS!
Probably wait a bit. Seems like a smart move.Let's assume it is inevitable that the next Sakurai Presents including the trailer for the next Smash fighter will be shadowdropped. How do you assume they'd handle naming the video? Directly call it something like "Mr. Sakurai Presents Ice Hockey Player", or wait 24 hours to replace the thumbnail and "???" with the actual character?
I dunno... Bandai Namco has been working on Nintendo IPs since the GameCube days and they didn't get a character until Smash 4, and even then it was specifically because of their help in Smash 4, so if they weren't doing that, we might not even have a single Namco rep right now.due to continued work between Nintendo and Koei Tecmo.
I wouldn’t say it’s really “proof” that we’re likely to get a KT character, but you must admit it doesn’t hurt the possibility.I dunno... If "continued work" really was an argument that "guaranteed" characters, I feel like we'd have gotten more than Pac-Man by now.
So I can't really see KT doing some work be a legitimate argument until proof of the contrary.
but I’m not convinced it will lead to a Smash character other than Ryu Hayabusa due to continued work between Nintendo and Koei Tecmo.
Of course it doesn’t guarantee anything, but it doesn’t hurt the chances of a given character.
Cmon Mr. Hahn. Don't become one of those people who automatically think any tiny portion of Nintendo-related news must correlate to Smash fighters. We already went through this **** with Paper Mario.
I'm personally still waiting for a Jump Rope Challenge character myself

For once, I agree with the cynic. No it doesn't hurt chances but Ryu Hayabusa seems like the kind of character Nintendo could've acquired for Smash at literally any point since Brawl were they so inclined.
Nintendo took control of the wheel of who's getting in the game. I wonder why they would pick Hayabusa. I'd like to believe they owed KT a favor.I’ve just given Koei Tecmo some thought, because as a company they have barely anything in Smash Ultimate. Hayabusa also hits that classic character bit, and is essentially KT’s Terry Bogard.
We’ll just have to wait and see!
I do think this boosts Impa's chances going forward, as having a recent battle ready Nintendo owned design is going to be a big help for her, and I'm not just talking about for DLC.Given the fact that Smash characters get free advertising through the various “Reaction videos” from Youtubers, I really doubt they’d drop a character without an announcement of when it’s happening beforehand.

Hyrule Warriors Impa is the only Impa I could see getting in the game if I must spit a hot take. Never understood her hype.I do think this boosts Impa's chances going forward, as having a recent battle ready Nintendo owned design is going to be a big help for her, and I'm not just talking about for DLC.

if it ain't tingle i ain't gonna mingle
You mean the old lady?Age of Calamity Impa is currently the only one with a shot.
Dude I support Waluigi and this is basically the Zelda equivalent, that alone explains it.Tingle is a big meh.
No, it's 100 years (or something) before Breath of the Wild so she's in her prime. You mean the old lady?
I hate Dark Pit just for being an echo fighter. If he had some actual differences like dealing more damage but also being easier to KO, I'd respect him.Yeah, that was eight whole months ago, how are people not over it? They need something else to focus their energy on.

It took me two whole years to find any actual physical differences between Pit and Dark Pit.Yeah, that was eight whole months ago, how are people not over it? They need something else to focus their energy on.
