Quick question about the rumored Direct, do you guys think we'll get anything ARMS related? I know a few people still think Min Min was meant to be a "shill pick", so I wanted to see how prominent that belief was.
Min Min was a shill pick and will set the tone for the next exciting game in the ARMS series: ARMS 2: LEGS

The summoner character I had in mind was DemiFiend but couldn't fit him in lol, so it had to be Joker in the end and a weirder character.

Demi-fiend can't even make it into the imaginary fighting games.

I think ARMS is goddamn dead.

Until the next console generation anyway. Then it might get a DX port or something.

Im thinking terms of fast MvsC gameplay so i dont really think Asha would work well in that regard. I played Landstalker, I still dont think theres enough to go with Nigel sadly, Friday only really heals him so thats really only her use. The summoner character I had in mind was DemiFiend but couldn't fit him in lol, so it had to be Joker in the end and a weirder character.

I finished the roster but smash boards image posting still doesn't work.
Oh, I see. All this time I thought you were trying to make an imaginary SEGA Smash roster, lol.

Nah, but even then I think anything ARMS-related should be saved for a potential sequel at this point.
In its own right it was a great game with a neat concept, but there are definitely aspects (including the core gameplay itself) which could benefit from being more thoroughly worked on for another entry in the series.

(Also, shill-pick or not, I'm glad that ARMS didn't completely miss the mark for Ultimate regardless).

As far as ARMS being promotional, that's more or less Nintendo once again holding official tournaments for it and generally supporting the game again (after an unexplained 2 year absence). Using a certain quote again:

The ARMS North American Online Open was an official online ARMS tournament held on April 4th, 2020 by Nintendo of America. The event was first revealed on March 23rd, 2020 along with the announcement that each member of Top 8 would be granted 2500 My Nintendo Gold Points (equivalent to $25 USD). While it was never officially confirmed, the tournament was likely held to tie-in with the announcement that an ARMS Character would be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in June along with ARMS being free to play for 10 days via Nintendo Switch Online.
The tournaments (April 2020, August 2020) are meant to help re-inginte interest in the game longer-term. And, I don't think an ARMS 2 is going to be on the way any time soon. If there's anything re: ARMS I'm leaning towards NoJ once again holding the ARMS Japan Grand Prix (after it was cancelled in 2019) or some other major tournament. (Edited, because this was written in haste admittedly.)

They could still patch and re-balance ARMS if they wanted to - Nintendo's still patching Splatoon 2 and holding tournaments for it more consistently.

(First quote edited away due to regret.)

The first thing in my recommendations after seeing this video was "Majima has a problem with killing people."
Ah, the duality of man.

At the very least, the date given by the leakers is the 28th, though I'm not sure if that's the date for the actual livestream or if it's just the announcement, with the actual presentation being on the 31st.
hmm, there IS maintenance on the 31st...

His outfit looks like the imperial japanese miltary outfit

He was completely removed in SMT:N in China and Korean release
Neither Raidou games came out there either
Ah.

I see.

Knowing Japan's relationship with China and South Korea, I can see why that would be an issue.

Well it seems like all the entertainment companies are announcing stuff now that they've got this lockdown malarkey figured out.

From people know Westerns' tastes and FPS genre in general, Master Chief is a decent prediction. I can't say he is a popular choice but still acknowledged way more than Rayman or Doomguy. So about the same tier as Lara Croft or Travis I say. At least being recognized by some.
Very interesting & good to know. I had a feeling this was the case. Japan seems to be aware of Halo even if it’s not popular there. There’s a decent amount of merch from Japanese companies, more than most Western gaming IPs get. I imagine the series could’ve been somewhat popular if it was on Nintendo or PlayStation.

This supports my idea that Master Chief could be a “reverse” Hero pick. A massively beloved/influential series in one part of the world, that’s only known as “That Japanese/American series” by the other country.

It would make sense that they'd want Master Chief over Doom's protagonist; Not only is it a first person shooter, which doesn't appeal to them, it's also incredibly gory, which seems to be a huge turn off for them.
You can call him DoomGuy. Doom: Eternal actually made that name canon, alongside the Doom Slayer name. He was called DoomGuy during the original games before taking up the Doom Slayer name in the new ones.

Ah, I thought the name confusion was because he didn't have one.

I'll use the new name. Calling him DoomGuy sounds like the equivalent of referring to any given Nintendo console simply as a Nintendo.

Something interesting to note is that once I saw some comments regarding Doomguy; One of them was that Master Chief would be better because he actually has a plot (Technically the newer Doom games do have a plot, but the Slayer doesn't have even one **** to give about it). Japanese audiences generally prefer a linear, plot-driven experience, while Western players lean more towards a free-roaming experience where they can just do whatever. Think it's a cultural thing. Still, the Japanese fans seem to prefer Master Chief out of the FPS candidates, especially considering how we got an actual Halo anime at some point (Or at least an animated short).

If you're wondering where your favorite Sonic or SEGA/Atlus character, they're likley in the game as an assist or stage backgrounds. Some will obviously be saved for DLC or sequel.

Went with 30 unique characters cause thats a good universal roster limit for a first time game series, going anywhere above that would cost alot and be more time consuming. You have to build up.

9 / 10 Needs more Football Manager, Shogun and AGES.

Nah but seriously, great job - didn't expect several characters to make your list (Busujima most notably) but hey, those kinds of characters can help a crossover fighter.

Out of those I'd probably be a bit boring and play Joker first due to familiarity, probably trying out Arle and Space Harrier just because of Opa Opa.

How many dark haired asian men that do martial arts do we need?

I prefer Segata being like a father/inspirational figure that assist sega characters anyways.

Being serious, this is pretty cool. Seems you put a lot of effort into it as well.

If this were real, Arle would be my main.

I know you put the favorite Sonic character disclaimer at the end. But I'd be kind of devastated Tails (AKA Sonic's Luigi) didn't even make a Sega fighting game roster none the less. Though I think if a Sega crossover fighter ever was made Sonic would certainly get top billing and get Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Eggman (If he isn't relegated to a boss machine you have to fight), and maybe Amy in there.

Square has Dissidia but that's only for Final Fantasy, so...

012 > vanilla > NT don't heccin @ me
Square would have a sweet roster. That cannot be denied.

Cloud, 2B, Dragon Quest protagonist, Lara Croft, Crono, Gex, Aya Brea, Neku, Sora (If Disney is on board), etc.

You know what? **** it, Fire Emblem fighting game. Every base is covered, we can all go home now and stop arguing. The end.
It's hard to picture a FE fighting game not being made by Arc System Works.
In fact, our ArcSys rep would probably be a character from that game. lol

While with Ys, Nintendo did get some of the later games in the series, Falcom had pretty much ignored Nintendo systems entirely until NIS had to convince them bring Ys Viii to the Switch.
While this is pretty much true, I think this can be viewed the other way around: now that they're starting to put their games on the Switch, Nintendo could try to push that alliance with them in different ways. That doesn't means Smash per se, there are other ways to boost and build a partnership, but obviously a character in Smash could be a great way of "formally signing their good relationship", it that makes any sense.

Not suggesting a Falcom character is a lock because they recently started to put their games on the Switch, but I think it's a similar case to SNK. As far as I know it isn't like SNK put a ton of games on Nintendo platforms, excluding the Switch.

-No ToeJam and Earl
-No Tails and Knuckles
-No Vectorman
-No Sketch Turner
-A Ristar character that's not Ristar.
-No WonderBoy/Monster World rep
-NO ****ING STREETS OF RAGE REP?!

God. I guess my preferences towards SEGA of America's "EXTRA 90'S" Genesis characters and not anything from the Saturn Era or the more Japanese-focused franchises (outside of Puyo and Yakuza) are too obvious.

You know who is a character that was talked quite a bit before E32018, and then suddenly dropped off as a potential character; Labo Man. While I don't think he is likely, we would still be an interesting character imo. Thoughts?

What the hell is this atrocity?

-No ToeJam and Earl
-No Tails and Knuckles
-No Vectorman
-No Sketch Turner
-A Ristar character that's not Ristar.
-No WonderBoy/Monster World rep
-NO ****ING STREETS OF RAGE REP?!
Most of those are extremely western characters that not even SEGA of Japan themselves acknowledge lol.
TJ&E isnt even owned by SEGA.
Sketch, SoR, Monster World, and Vectorman moveset spots have been filled by someone already better.
Greedy is more interesting to work with.

Alright here it is:

Some character playstyle summaries:

Arle (Puyo Puyo): A spell caster +trap setter character. Set up puyos that upon being chained by another releases a elemental magic explosion depending on which color was chained. Once chain reaction hits its time to punish with her magic skills.

Greedy(Ristar): A defense oriented character, Has ton of close range projectiles like black holes, orbs, and laser beams. You work into trying to get the opponent off balance to go for the kill.

Sakura (Sakura Wars): stance change(based off the Stratagems) samurai mech fighter

Sumire (Sakura Wars): a long range Naginata mech fighter, uses similar gimmick Sakura has

Rika (Phantasy Star): A rushdown character, uses her metal claws to tear opponents apart

Risa (Phantasy Star): The super projectile character, based off PSO2 Ranger class, uses Launchers and Rifles for massive destruction

Vyse (Skies of Arcadia): A cross up double sword fighter, uses moon magic for buffs. Receives assist by other Blue Rogue members.

Drachma (Skies of Arcadia): A heavy grappler that can also use moon magic

Busujima (HOTD/Zombie Revenge): a brawler, melee weapon, and gun user. can summon random zombies from the HOTD series like Frank West.

Magician(HOTD): A Zoner character that sets up his fire powers for massive combo damage

Temjin(Virtual-On): a fast rushdown/cross up character. If he gets an opponent from behind its over.

Space Harrier: a projectile character with RNG mechanics. Pulls out Weponalds shop to buy random weapon that could change the fight. Can get Opa-Opa to assist him.

Alex Kidd: a Rock(slow but powerful), Paper(fast but low attack) , Scissor(balance) stance brawler. Also brings out his vehicles.

NiGHTs: Air Juggler fighter. The more the opponent stays in air the more danger their in.

Hotsuma (Shinobi): A fragile but powerful character. Low HP and His sword takes slowly damages him so you need to kill the opponent as fast as possible.

Ulala (Space Channel 5): A trap setter that uses dancing moves and a blaster to fight. You can set up trap up, down, left, right. if caught the opponent gets stunned.

Beat (Jet Set Radio): A crazy leg combo fighter. Depends on stunning opponents with his spray can. Fighting style is reminiscent of Skate from Streets of Rage.

Green(Gunstar Heroes): A form change fighter. changes to his different forms from his boss battle to due rekkas damage.

Alpha Trio (Dinosaur King): a weird Summoner character. Urusula calls out Ed and Zander in her attacks destroy opponents strategies by surprise. Can also call out Terry the T-Rex during supers. Has High HP but is difficult to learn.

You have to build up.
sad Daytona USA noises
Where's my boy Hornet?
(Maybe as DLC?)

Aww, I loved that little fella!
Honestly, if they were FP11 I'd be all for it lol

I was kinda hoping that the original creator of that animation would make a full-on moveset for Labo Man at one point though, since there's still loads of potential left to be uncovered.
