Speaking of music, I'm kind of disappointed in the lack of Johto and Unova Pokemon music. How VS Red, Johto Gym Leader, Unova Elite 4, Driftveil City, VS N and Unova Victory Road got skipped, I got no idea. Certified bangers.
(VS Red starts playing in Pokemon HeartGold)
Gold: Uh... what does this mean?
Red: … (Translation: "It means... YOU'RE F**KED.")

Dante is sword, but idk that he really counts as anime. Wait, does Ryu Hayabusa really count, either? They're both depicted in a realistic artstyle, not an anime one.

FP6: Composite ARMS rep (Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Ninjara, Min Min)
FP6-S: Rex and Pyra/Mythra

FP7: Geno
FP7-S: Sora (Yeah I know, it's a keyblade and not a sword. But we all know the Keyblade would be a big disjoint and thus, pretty much a sword)

FP8: Toxtricity
FP8-S: Zacian

FP9: Crash Bandicoot
FP9-S: Sephiroth

FP10: Dr. Eggman
FP 10-S: Lloyd Irivng

FP11: Waluigi
FP11-S: Kasumi Yoshizawa

Does anyone still think that the fan rules about spirits, assist trophies, and Mii costumes still apply to this fighters pass? Cause like I said earlier, I don't think they do anymore.

I beat Red on the car trip back from college orientation last June. **** was so cash, my Pokemon were behind like 20 levels and I still somehow won.

Mamoswime really did save the day.

I've never thought these rules held much weight tbh. You can just delete assist trophies or have them inactive when the character is picked, spirits are PNGs which can be altered easily (Hilda), and Mii costumes are just Mii costumes. We have costumes for characters such as Samus who are also playable. I think the only Mii costumes that deconfirm are the deluxe ones, since Sans and Cuphead have Mii proportions; and charging 75c for them, only to make the character playable for $5.99 later on, would be a bad look.

But of course, we've yet to see if the ARMS rep is a character that already has these. It's kinda unlikely it won't be one of the big 5, though.

There is no chance of it being an ARMS 2 character. The Switch news update specifically says it is a character “from the ARMS game”. Not “the ARMS series”, not “the ARMS franchise”, not even just “ARMS”. It’s very clear.

Now could it be a redesign of an ARMS character(s) to their new design in ARMS 2? Maybe, but the fact is we don’t even know if ARMS 2 is a real thing.
While I absolutely agree we're not getting an ARMS 2 character (the most I can see is a potential ARMS 2 redesign of an ARMS 1 character should the game be revealed at E3, like how Dillon got his Dead Heat Breakers outfit), the wording there means nothing.

Nintendo's advertising for the past year and a half or so has had them insist on calling things "the [game title] game" instead of "[game title]" and no matter how minor it is, it irrationally pisses me off. Go back to previous Directs and you'll hear "The Luigi's Mansion 3 game," "The Fire Emblem: Three Houses game," and "The Animal Crossing: New Horizons game" among others, and I hate it. It sounds so impersonal and robotic and not at all like something a normal well-adjusted person would say. But it's their thing. I don't know.

Anyway that's my rant about how much I hate Nintendo's insistence on using robotic legalese wording.

Forum game:

People whine there are too many “anime sword users” in smash.

But people love games with anime sword users.

So what I’m going to ask you all you to do is double the amount of characters in season 2’s fighter pass and give me for each slot except the first one: An anime swordsman you want, and then a non-“anime swordsman” character you want. Except for the first slot, where your wanted slot will go to an ARMs character(s). The (s) because you can make alts if you want.
I tried making the anime sword people have something similar to the pass until it stopped working about half way through.
FP6: Dr.Coyle (Arms)
Anime Sword 1: Lyn (Fire Emblem)

FP7: Reimu (Touhou)
Anime Sword 2: Sakura (Sakura Wars)

FP8: Amaterasu (Okami)
Anime Sword 3: Nakoruru (Samurai Shodown)

F9: Agumon (Digimon)
Anime Sword 4: Sol Badguy (Guilty Gear)

FP10: Neku (The World Ends With You)
Anime Sword 5: 2B (Nier Automata)

FP11: Arle (Puyo Puyo)
Anime Sword 6: Yu Narukami (Persona 4)

I personally think that the spirits that were added post launch (like Astral chain, Resident evil, Ring fit etc.) and the dlc mii costumes (like Sans, Knuckles or Tails etc.) will not be in the fighter pass 2 because they where probably decided later on, while the second pass was starting pre-production or when they where starting to pitch some ideas. But I think the the base game spirits and assist trophies could have a chance because they where decided way before the second fighter pass was planned.

I do. I'm expecting Max Brass or Dr. Coyle to end up being the ARMS fighter.

Max Brass especially make sense. Spring Man maybe the protagonist and face but story and lore wise Max Brass is the most important.

If Street Fighter was only shotos, was only allotted a single slot, only had a group of new, not-too-established, relatively equally prominent choices, and the character was announced in an unorthodox, deliberately withholding way, I'd say they stood a decent chance of being a composite character..
Been reading through this thread and had to sign up just to say how much this reflects my views on this and the thought of an all-in-1 ARMs character.

Like, yes, ARMs characters are very visually appealing and diverse. They have designs that over-flow with life and character. And they have unique passives and skills that make them different (related to either just Def or increasing Offensive power).

But they ALL fight "the same". They fight with ARMs, they punch ... that's it. That's one of the strange things about that game. Looking at how Inklings and Terry and the SF bros were handled as well as Lil Mac (not a PvP character but a character with a clearly grounded "Boxing" fighting style) I feel certain that the ARMs character will use their ARMs in every attack as to stay true to the series.

With that in mind I can't think of a move-set for the most basic ARMs character (Spring Man) that simply can't work or look "right" on other ARMs characters with minimal changes to posing. Given how different ARMs mechanics are to Smash I could easily see w/e way they reflect those mechanics in Smash completely override the desire to add in any unique passives from their game. For example, if a character is balanced around having spammable mile long punches and moments where they can't punch cause of their ARMs being damaged are people really gonna go "Yeah, but wheres the Lucario Passive/ the multi jumps/ the hovering/ the deflects/ the slow down/ the healing from shielding/ the invisible dodging"? There's already more than enough interesting things to deal with and they've shown with the last character that they're OK with cutting a character's unique in game power if it means repping the whole of their game with a unique move-set.

IDK, I don't pretend to know what's gonna happen but everything about this screams "more than 1 OR not who you think" to me. Why would they reveal it this way and hype up speculation for 2 months just to say " it's the box art guy we clearly pushed first and hardest! The one you would assume! :D "?

My best guess at how a composite character could work is some kinda mix of Hero and Mii Fighter where instead of 3 move-sets with custom options for the same character build you have ... 2-3 different character builds with echo level differences in move-sets and each covers a number of alts.
Boom, you can have the big build for Brass/ Mech/ Mummy and the mid for Twin and so on or w/e. Basically 3 clones/ echos in 1 and each has alt skins with Byleth level differences in idles/ posing.

That or it's just Min Min/ Twin or something. We shall see.

right now my bets are on a 4 in one character being spring man, ribbon girl, min min, and ninjara. I can easily see all of them having the same overall smash move set without it being weird to look at.

I agree that a 4-in-1 of Spring Man/Ribbon Girl/Ninjara/Min Min just makes sense. They do all fight and grab with their ARMS. Is Ribbon Girl really going to miss the extra jump or two she'd have had if she was playable on her own? No, especially since Smash already has double jumps, and you can give the ARMS character above average air mobility. Is Ninjara going to miss vanishing? Perhaps a little, but I think everyone would understand that it would be there were it not a composite character. And he'd still be able to air dodge and spot dodge. So Min Min's thing is that she also kicks? Well wouldn't you know, the other three characters all have legs, and kicking is already common in down and forward tilts

I think a lot of people are forgetting about the arms themselves.

Seems like most people would agree that most of the moveset outside specials (Smash attacks, tilts, aerials) will involve punches, not boomerangs, beams, or shields. Punching opponents with long springy arms is sort of the core idea of ARMS. They expanded beyond punches by creating other kinds of arms with different abilities.

So I see one of two things happening. One is that they choose a character who has some type of glove for one of their arms, and two is them giving gloves to a character who doesn't have any as their default three arms.

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuggg.

No. The ARMS cast does not fight the same (if they did there would be no point) and I hate the idea of a conglomerate character that either takes away a character's unique abilities or gives characters abilities that don't make sense on them.

I imagine it will all depend on how sakurai decided how to implement customizing arms, perhaps like shulks manado arts or more like inklings arsenal. who knows

Min Min's three sets of arms are the main reason why I'm hesitant to say she's the playable character. She has a beam and a boomerang, and I can't see either of those being the default arms that make up most of the Smash attacks and tilts. The only set of arms she has that involves punching are the biggest, slowest arms in the game.

If they do choose her, I'm expecting her to get someone else's arms.

How about no? Seriously, there’s no way one could honestly do all this without sucking out all their unique gameplay styles.

Have had a long day for reasons some folks know, but I will just comment on “fan rules”.

On one hand, “fan rules” are restricting. They go out of their way to essentially boil down options that fit the outlook of said rules. Some of them are legitimately based on nothing.

On the other, some “fan rules” are mischaracterized and make sense in some aspects. Folks normally get upset or frustrated with them if they disagree with their outlook, as is most of Smash speculation. It’s kinda like, “That’s not true! It disconfirms my most wanted!”

I’ve become lax with my Smash outlook quite a bit. I really don’t caas much about some options because I will essentially enjoy them all anyway. That said, just because a “rule” is broken once does not mean that it will be repeatedly broken by additional picks. Simply put, as someone who didn’t expect Assist Trophy or Spirit Upgrades, I fully expect Spring Man to be upgraded as the ARMS pick. I also, however, do not expect further upgrades or some substantial amount of the pass to be upgrades.

As I have said in the past, what works for ARMS may not work for Xenoblade 2, it may not work for Isaac and Golden Sun. There are variables to every character selection, as none of them are created equal or in the same standing as the others. Therefore, to cast this “broken rule” as indicating a pattern with one data point, I could only deduce that folks will get their hopes up, and then crash and burn similar to the Grinch leak days. The fanbase doesn’t learn from this sort of stuff.

As I have said, we should be viewing prospective characters on a pick by pick basis, because thats seemingly how picks are chosen.

Fan rules will always exist in order to guide the course of speculation. Some will stand the test of time, others won’t. But not having “rules” doesn’t always lead to the most interesting speculation if you ask me.
-
Side note, I played and finished Ace Attorney 1. Love the characters and I am excited to play the next game after I finish RE3, but I am not sold on Phoenix in Smash. It has nothing to do with disliking the game, but simply am not sold on him being a playable character.

Min Min being the DLC would be really funny to me because the dragon arm would be a projectile and a ARMS character with a projectile just sounds funny to me, i'm not sure why.

To get some discussions rolling in here, how about I ask the thread a question?

Since Three Houses and ARMS have a character in Smash, there's a decent chance that another Switch game (first-party) will get a character too. Which games and which characters from those games do you expect? If you don't expect any Switch games to get a character, explain why.

After seeing this:
I have a good feeling that if we get another first party character, it's a good chance Burton, and Berecca (supposed main characters from Ninjala), can be a fair contender for DLC.

From what I've seen gameplaywise, I think they're alright, but I'd be disappointed they got in instead of Elma or other first party choices.
How does everyone else feel about them, and there chances for DLC?

One I’ve been hoping for is Sirfetch’d from Pokémon Sword and Shield.
