See these posts? This is pretty much the standard for speculation against characters nowadays.





More times than not any arguments against a character involve personal attacks instead of "simple disagreements." Don't sugarcoat the truth.

I see these post, and it’s sad that it comes to that. That being said, you also cherry picked these post.
I don’t agree with people who approach it this way. It’s unnecessary and makes the conversation and speculation toxic.

What I was trying to say is, there’s a lot of “Oh, you don’t think this character is getting in? Blasphemer. Be gone with you. Your opinion or conjecture shall be deemed null and void from this day, until the end of your days.” Like, I want Sora, and I can guarantee you that just me saying that has someone seething.

I would like to say you ****** might as well root for the characters you think are cool. Who cares if everyone on twitter thinks they aren't ever gonna happen or think they would be "boring" because a lot of people talk about them. I feel that's just a way to shut down discussion. Not to say you can't have you own levels of expectations or can't speculate, just don't tell other people to be ruled over by your own views on the situation. Terry wasn't a character I expected to show up and he ended up being my favorite of the bunch so far. Could have been Kyo, and while he's cool, I never mained him in the KoF games I did play, but I did with Terry. So maybe some "unexpected" character could end up being great.

Because, we do have quite a few examples of characters from popular fan picks being put into the game. So clearly, to some extent the devs listen. Just don't be an asshole or obsessive about it. And don't get too mad if some character like Byleth seems pretty mid in comparison. Cause you might end up liking their moveset anyways.

There's something oddly comforting about your most-wanted fighters being characters that not a lot of people talk about.
Like I sometimes talk about Pig Ganon and Dark Matter and why I want to see them in Smash, and not a lot of people engage or antagonize me for my opinion because I'm either beneath their notice or they just don't think I'm worth explaining why my choices are less valid than Crash/Dante/Geno/whatever flavor-of-the-week character is lighting up the boards.

There's nothing wrong with people disagreeing and explaining why. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

The problem comes when people decide to act like A-holes about it, which I usually see happen whenever people start listing characters they don't want to see in Smash. Even if the person to start the series of "I don't want this character" posts is perfectly respectful about it, there eventually comes that one post saying that certain Smash fans are somehow lesser human beings because they want to see *insert character here* included.

I ain't cherrypicking. There's a reason people liked that post and it's because it's true. Posts like that have become the norm in character speculation and that's just the way things are now. Most people argue in absolutes and if you're not with them, you're against them. I personally blame increased toxicity of the core fanbase and the influence of "insiders" on Smash speculation for such changes, but at this point it's far too late to do anything to reverse the effects of such factors.

Why do you think myself and other users barely come here anymore? Speculation on sites like these is hardly speculation so much as it is different echo chambers arguing against each other. And that's sad.

I’m confused. I’m agreeing with you. That’s the point I was trying to make. A lot of people on here see no “grey area” it’s all in absolutes like you said.

We all have opinions and people act like they’re not entitled to them if it goes against what they believe. I hate it. It ruins the fun that’s supposed to accompany speculation.

But yes, I’m agreeing with you.

Just a few things of significance about this PAC-MAN x Tamagotchi crossover, it's actually really cool if you're into this sorta thing.

This release marks the first of several things:

• This is the first variant of the Tamagotchi Nano to not be released in Japan.
• This is the first time an English-exclusive release has used Obaketchi on the Death screen.
• This is the first time another Bandai-Namco property has appeared on a Tamagotchi release.
• This is the second time Tamagotchi has crossed over with Pac-Man, the first being Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, which featured Mametchi, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and Blinky as racers.
• The Pac-Man Tamagotchi was featured at the London Toy Fair 2020, and will be featured at the New York Toy Fair 2020.
• The bug attacks are a reference to the Map 256 glitch in the original Pac-Man game.

Smashboards goes through cultural changes.
At times it's ridiculous, it really depends on the mods and their attitudes.
A couple years ago, it really felt like you couldn't say anything negative about a characters inclusion, or bring up detracting points.
It was looked at as trolling, flaming, or like provoking those characters fan bases.
It used to feel like all you could do is talk positively about characters and couldn't even really have open discussions or debates.
You know how there's identity politics, it was like that, but with characters.
Bringing up detracting points about a character was like insulting someones identity who wanted that character.
This is a sentiment and attitude that even the mods had, and the bias was absurdly obvious.
I kinda leave when the freedom of speech becomes so controlled.
Right now it doesn't seem so bad, as we're actually able to discuss it without ban hammers.

There aren't many (viable) characters I actively root against at this point. Like, even Sora who was by far my least wanted during FP1 (not a fan of KH and don't like his design at all) I've come around to at least be like "well he's certainly popular and he'd make people happy".

I didn't like the concept of Steve in Smash, still think Minecraft is best represented through other means over a playable character, but if he got in I'd recognize that Minecraft is super popular and important and at least we have Banjo. Etc, you get the idea.

Just along for the ride at this point. Most of my most wanted are barely in the picture to begin with so my expectations are sort of neutral as is. Maybe they'll surprise me and announce a Rhythm Heaven game at E3 that they can shill later in the pass, here's hoping.

I'll be honest, it's gonna take a character I really can't stand to reach a nadir lower than the one the last addition brought me. And even that wasn't so bad, I just sat still for a few minutes and then sighed so hard I almost deflated.

This post kinda got away from me and turned into ****ting on Byleth when I meant it more like there's nowhere to go but up for me, lol.

I suppose Steve would disappoint me though. And Cinderace. That's all that come to mind.

I guess Jonesy would make me think “him but not Steve?” if Steve doesn’t get in, but not even he would really upset me; Fortnite has nothing to do with Minecraft and acting upset wouldn’t make me any better than the people who pretend a character other than their own stole their slot or claim “they don’t ‘deserve’ it and their fans suck.” Plus, he’d be kinda funny anyway, may make my younger brother interested. I don’t really understand why some people are so against certain characters anyway, it’s just a game in the end and people like that honestly sound selfish.

I think the only characters I would be truly against seeing in Smash are Smash-original characters like Primid/Tabuu/Galeem, or characters whose games haven't come out yet.

Like I might chew someone's face off if they unironically suggest an Avatar/Lord from Fire Emblem 18 at the time of this writing.

Forgive me for entering "my opinion" mode (at the worst possible minute I may add), but I'm just going to list the characters I don't want in Smash Ultimate and reasons why.

Dante (I'm an a**, I know, but Dante is already in Marvel vs. Capcom 3! We don't need him in Smash right now!)

Although I'm generally all for people being able to like, or dislike, whomever they please, but your reason for not wanting Dante in is... kinda dumb, if not extremely poorly thought out.

Anything else, like just genuinely not finding him interesting at all, would've been fine, but this? Lol

No idea what his appearance in a cross over game in 2011, has got to do with appearing in another game in 2020 or 2021...

At least try to come up with a valid reason lol.

Even when it’s Geno, a character you like, you insist doom and gloom on other people even if they already acknowledge the possibility of their favorite characters getting disconfirmed. Heck, in your past arguments against characters, if someone brings up a point that goes against something you’ve said, either proving it wrong or making it look unlikely, you ignore it and then just restate the same stuff again if it comes up later on, not even addressing the points people use against yours unless it’s about some Spirits stuff or whatever. You even tell people off for even daring to hope for certain characters or even just mentioning them, seemingly insisting your view is the only correct view and even implying you just care about being right in a few posts you’ve made in the Geno thread in the past. They may very well end up as costumes, but good gosh just leave me and others the heck alone about it and stop pushing it as undeniable fact. I've already come to terms with Fighter Pass 2 ending with a main character or avatar from Fire Emblem Heroes (Nintendo's most successful mobile game).
It's a Smash tradition to end the DLC with Fire Emblem, plus we don't have a Nintendo mobile shill character yet

Honestly even that'd be acceptable, I'm talking about the FE game after Three Houses whenever that goes into development.
What do they look like? How do they fight? What is their personality? If not even these basic questions can be answered I'm afraid faces WILL be chewed if someone decides to start a support thread just to get ahead of the curve.

It’d definitely be fine, if that was actually what Wynn is thinking. You haven’t seen his past posts. I don’t care if he thinks they’ll be costumes, he doesn’t have to try and force the idea on other people and be doom and gloom if someone has even the tiniest bit of optimism.

I don't have time to read everything. They say evidence that goes against me, I say evidence that goes against them. It's the same dance at all the time, but even with a mountain of evidence it can backfire; such as how there was no Shadow Assist Trophy show throughout Ultimate's reveal and how there were no Three Houses Spirit Event in Ultimate.

Geno couldn't get in Smash 4 Base Roster, Smash 4 DLC, Ultimate's Base Roster, and Fighters Pass Vol 2. What makes the fifth time any different? Is Square going to be more cooperative and give more than just 2 songs? Are Nintendo going to give up a lot of money to get Geno when they can use it to get other characters that people would be just as happy with and cause a huge splash? Sakurai ain't making the decision, it's all about business.

With the Fighters Pass you have Nintendo getting Joker & Terry so Sakurai can happy with and cause an uproar in surprise from consumers. You have Byleth to promote Three Houses. You have Hero to appeal to the eastern audience and advertise to the western audience. And you get one character that's only for a fan pick because Microsoft & Rare were willing to play ball, Banjo. Square Enix ain't going to be like that and Nintendo will have other priorities. Geno is destine to be a Mii Costume, and with any luck it will be in the same style as Sans & Cuphead.
