That's alive by merit of nothing contradicting it. But that doesn't mean much.So what rumors are alive ATM?

The replies I get in response to my posts regarding Minecraft frame it as if I've said the series is tiny and forgettable or something.Minecraft content in Super Smash Bros. is inevitable.
I am absolutely confident that Nintendo and Microsoft have at least discussed the possibility of Minecraft in Smash. They both know a DLC pack would sell very, very well.
And I'm quite certain that Sakurai himself recognizes not only the appeal of a fighter with a unique focus on crafting and resource management in their moveset, but also the appeal of Minecraft as a whole when it comes to SSBU being the Ultimate crossover in gaming history.
We shouldn't underestimate the sheer cultural importance of Minecraft. Even people who don't like or understand it have at least heard of it. Few games have that distinction.
Minecraft is to zoomers what Pokémon is to millennials: an enduringly popular international cultural phenomenon within the gaming world that has expanded to every entertainment medium.
Minecraft pioneered a new subgenre of gaming.
There are Minecraft toys, clothes, books, bedding, decorations, and costumes. Not just in gaming shops but in major retailers. There's a major feature length Minecraft film in the works. The only other gaming franchises I see with this much merchandise are Super Mario and Pokémon.
And now Minecraft is the best selling video game of all time. Minecraft sells, and its owners want it everywhere.
Or Bandai Namco just didn't fight him on it. Its possible, even likely, that they don't particularly care too much which design is used. They still use Classic Pac-Man for promotional material often. If this doesn't show how little power Bamco has in this relationship then I don't know what will.
In my opinion, Pac-Man is the sort of character where alternate costumes only look good if you change the colour of his gloves and boots or slightly tint the colour of his skin like Pikachu.I made a Pac-Man Alt resembles the ghosts when they are eaten. The entire blue and white color schemes but I can’t seem to find where I put it. I might just make another one.
In the land of the dead, the breathing man is king... if that's how it went. That's alive by merit of nothing contradicting it. But that doesn't mean much.
Oh, I wasn't attacking your post or even disagreeing with you. Sorry if I came across that way! Some of what I wrote are things I've been thinking about for some time. I quoted your post because I felt like you had already steered the conversation in a direction where my thoughts were now relevant to the discussion at hand, and I felt like I could add to some of your points. The replies I get in response to my posts regarding Minecraft frame it as if I've said the series is tiny and forgettable or something.
In fact, in that post you quoted I mentioned how I believed Microsoft was amenable to proliferating the license of the IP.
I think it may be pertinent that people actually check to see if I'm talking down a series before they write paragraphs defending it...
It's less about Bamco fighting him and more about Sakurai plainly stating that if they didn't give him the design he wanted he would have just dropped the character outright. No reps for Bamco period.Or Bandai Namco just didn't fight him on it. Its possible, even likely, that they don't particularly care too much which design is used. I even saw a Namco brand claw machine at a Wal-Mart that had an official 'Help Wanted - Bandai Namco' poster on it using the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Pac-Man render.
Ah, my bad; the two posts didn't really seem too related to each other since mine was more about the unknowable factors of negotiating.Oh, I wasn't attacking your post or even disagreeing with you. I did read your post. But I also typed my reply while on my way to work surrounded by other people talking, so I was a bit distracted and ended up rambling.
Neat idea. Granted, I can only think of like 5 to 10 I'd REALLY want. But I'll try. 24 characters right? I'd personally doubt we'll get to 100, but we'll see.So by the time they finish the second fighters pass we'll be at 81 characters he's something fun they say there gonna keep going till they get to 100 fill in 76 to 100 with whoever you want I want to see what everyone's rosters would look like
I believe that Assist Trophies & DLC spirits deconfirm characters, but I’m going to ignore that for this.So by the time they finish the second fighters pass we'll be at 81 characters he's something fun they say there gonna keep going till they get to 100 fill in 76 to 100 with whoever you want I want to see what everyone's rosters would look like
I forgot to add CJ to my BS "Let's get to 100 list." Let's say he'd be 101. So that we can tagline "NOW WITH MORE THAN 100 characters!".I would try to keep this semi-realistic, but **** it, time to make the most self-indulgent roster humanly possible

...I still think Halo and Minecraft are too big for Smash. Licensing anything from them would be expensive and difficult without their explicit cooperation, and not worth the effort when you could license companies far closer to home that are way less difficult and still get about the same profits from it.
To be fair, there's no third-party franchise in Smash that oversold Minecraft. Tetris is close. But the argument could be made that Mario, Pokémon, and the Wii franchise are easy licenses because they're owned by Nintendo....
...
...Dude, what are you smoking?
Halo AND Minecraft too big for Smash???
We got franchises in Smash that eclipse both of them in size.
Do I have to mention Pokemon?
If he said too big for this round of DLC then ok, maybe I'd buy that since the budget went down. But for Smash overall? Nope....

2.5/6Finally. Image uploader is working. Anyway this is my dream pass. What do you all think? Would you be happy with this pass?

No, technically Minecraft hasn't sold near as well Sonic, Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil, Dragon Quest, or Street Fighter as a franchise and they're all in Smash. And you can't say Minecraft isn't a franchise, because it is. It may be one game but it's one game with multiple iterations and as a franchise Minecraft doesn't even come close.Microsoft isn't lucky that Nintendo allowed them to put Mario and co in Minecraft, NINTENDO are lucky to have exclusive stuff in Minecraft to make getting it on their system more attractive. Everyone wants a slice of the Minecraft pie, but if you're going to do a cross-promotion then both parties are going to want an equal take. And Minecraft in Smash would be a way better deal for Nintendo than Microsoft. We are talking wildly different levels of sales here. No third party franchise in Smash comes CLOSE to Minecraft, and the ones that are maybe a fraction as successful have some huge caveats.
- Minecraft "is the single best-selling video game of all time, selling over 180 million copies across all platforms by late 2019, with over 112 million monthly active players " (Wikipedia)
- "Final Fantasy VII Has Sold Over 11 Million Units Worldwide"...(Siliconera)
- and here is all of the Final Fantasy 7 content in Smash; two songs, one character, one stage, two spirits. This is for a game with the fraction of the influence Minecraft has.
- Pokemon and Mario are owned or partially owned by Nintendo, releasing exclusively on Nintendo consoles, etc
So I did something interesting here and tried to fill up all the spaces with not just new franchises, but straight up COMPANIES not currently represented in Smash in any way shape or form (minus the first one because it only just happened). I'll admit, this was not easy.So by the time they finish the second fighters pass we'll be at 81 characters he's something fun they say there gonna keep going till they get to 100 fill in 76 to 100 with whoever you want I want to see what everyone's rosters would look like
I can't quite say that. Its possible that, similarly to how Chrom was replaced by Robin despite Chrom being the one in the Project Plan, Sakurai could have substituted Pac-Man for a different Namco rep, such as Lloyd. It's less about Bamco fighting him and more about Sakurai plainly stating that if they didn't give him the design he wanted he would have just dropped the character outright. No reps for Bamco period.
About that...Best we have to go on is Sakurai saying no one has ever denied him for 3rd Parties in Smash. Granted, this doesn't count Sega as they eventually changed their minds before the game they were asked for even released and thus Sonic got in after all.
Sakurai's Book said:- Bayonetta was the first pick among realisable characters (for the ballot). Above her, there were old veterans like Snake and other characters that were already tried negotiating but got rejected. (p63)
100 characters? That's a lot!So by the time they finish the second fighters pass we'll be at 81 characters he's something fun they say there gonna keep going till they get to 100 fill in 76 to 100 with whoever you want I want to see what everyone's rosters would look like

Definitely some off the wall choices (two of which are from visual novels). Hopefully I'm not wrong here and some of these are from companies actually represented.
I think this would be another fun game: name as many new companies as you can that aren't represented in Smash at all.

Some characters I considered but decided against:
1. Athena: already has a music track/potential design issues
2. Any Spirit/Assist Trophy already in the game: I feel they're not getting promoted (if they were, Shantae, Agitha, and Mach Rider would've made the list)
3. Capcom in general: Their characters don't really appeal to me
4. Someone from Onigiri: Couldn't find an acceptable character/designs probably might have issues
5. Pitfall Harry: I feel a moveset for him would be better suited for say... Lara Croft (who also didn't make my list)
6. Lara Croft: Two distinct designs, not sure which would work
Interesting. So this is the kind of argument you land on when you only look at sales numbers and nothing else...Microsoft isn't lucky that Nintendo allowed them to put Mario and co in Minecraft, NINTENDO are lucky to have exclusive stuff in Minecraft to make getting it on their system more attractive. Very interesting. I could definitely see Dante being used to start Pass #2. My heart hopes for Sora using a fast, combo-based moveset like Bayonetta, but no way that would happen. Also

So it's a character that can't show skin...Here’s the Bayonetta glitch in question
There was a problem fetching the tweet
I saw a screenshot where Bayo occasionally wouldn’t show skin when doing a smash attack. I think it’s that same glitch
Smells like a conspiracy theory. Not worth thinking about.Definitely some off the wall choices (two of which are from visual novels). Interesting, I wholeheartedly approve of the Golden Witch

Minecraft is indeed a franchise, by itself it's a cultural phenomeon across the world so ignoring all the insane money it generates off of merchandise while acknowledging other Final Fantasy games etc isn't fair either. Minecraft has Dragon Quest's popularity... WORLDWIDE. Dragon Quest getting in relied heavily on Square Enix wanting to market DQ11 hard in the West so they could make headway with the series in a market that traditionally hasn't cared for it as much as Japan. There are caveats to third parties getting included; brand awareness, cross-promotion etc. Every third party has this, the difference between why they got in and why they didn't. And Nintendo has nothing that Minecraft doesn't already have in spades. No, technically Minecraft hasn't sold near as well Sonic, Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil, Dragon Quest, or Street Fighter as a franchise and they're all in Smash. And you can't say Minecraft isn't a franchise, because it is. It may be one game but it's one game with multiple iterations and as a franchise Minecraft doesn't even come close.
Minecraft isn't just a single game, it's a game with a whole lot of different versions sold across multiple different platforms that has been sold consistently for what, 10 years now? Your comparison isn't fair, you're picking and choosing your examples to better fit your point.
Edit: if what you were saying was indeed the case. Dragon Quest would have been an absolute impossibility but look where we are.
I'm thinking more about 2B, but Dante is a possibility.Definitely some off the wall choices (two of which are from visual novels). Interesting, I wholeheartedly approve of the Golden Witch
