Please don't restart the trend of people tying anniversaries to possible game announcements. How many times do we have to go through this same process before everyone learns.

Nobody expected Joker, and nobody would have been talking about Hero or Terry before they were rumored, so I gotta agree. Nintendo's been going for the deep-cuts so far, and I don't expect that to change, tomorrow.

I don't think claiming Cloud was the winner would've been more believable than Bayonetta. Literally no one was expecting Cloud, not even people like me who actually wanted him to be playable way before he got revealed.

I disagree. No one expected Cloud to appear due to being 'Sony oriented', but no one can deny that Final Fantasy is a hugely popular series and, amongst all the characters in that series, Cloud is clearly the most popular character in that series and even amongst all RPG characters.
Sakurai himself said that amongst Final Fantasy characters Cloud was the most requested and Cloud is also amongst the most popular character mods for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
It would have been completely acceptable for people to accept that people who didn't believe in so-called 'Must be Important to Nintendo' would have voted for Cloud, since, quite honestly, that was the ONLY reason people ever used to say Cloud wouldn't appear in Super Smash Bros. and thought he was unlikely..despite having Solid Snake, who people would say only got in due to Kojima..which was essentially true, but still broke that so-called 'rule'.

No problem. It was a..difficult..time to be a fan of Smash. If you dared bring up a character that wasn't Shovel Knight, K. Rool, or Shantae, people would often try to shut you down.
I literally was blocked on Twitter by Josh Thomas, prominent YouTuber at the time in regards to Super Smash Bros. 4 content, for daring to tell him that King K. Rool wasn't a sure thing for the Smash Ballot Winner just because a bunch of Western-based, Fan-Centric Polls said he was amongst the most voted for.
People also tried to say that the DLC characters we got (Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, Ryu, Cloud, Corrin, & Bayonetta) were only chosen because they were 'easy' to use because they could use existing characters (Lucario, Ness, Marth, Ganondorf, Ike, Marth(?), & ZS Samus) as 'templates' based solely on Cloud & Bayonetta's early data in the code (unnamed) being copies off of Ike & ZS Samus'..so, well true that existing characters were used as templates to make development easier, they just assumed that was the only reason they got in..which has a small basis in truth since that's the only reason we got Ganondorf in Melee since Sakurai said he was easy to base off of Capt. Falcon.

While I was waiting for the Midnight Release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I literally said 'I'm expecting Sora, but I'd also love a Persona character like Joker, but that'll never happen' literally a half hour before Joker was revealed during the Game Awards.
Now I'm saying I'd love Senran Kagura's Asuka to appear, but that'll never happen..lets see if lightning strikes twice (it won't..I'm just making a joke).

Not gonna lie, if for some reason we get Lu Bu or Reisalin into Smash, they'd be a day one purchase from me. I enjoy DW and I am a big Atelier fan, currently going through Ryza.

Earlier this week, the Dusk Trilogy was rereleased for Switch, PS4, and Steam. Wouldn't it be wild if Ryza was also announced for FP5 on the same week?

there is also a steam atelier sale due to this umu!

which was kinda annoying considering past week i decided to support atelier ryza by buying it at full price and now is 30% off.. but daaang (really liking it graphically, but animations are a little meh. the combat system though seems very intriguing.)

I really wish they put a little more time and refinment into atelier games, since i love the gameplay loop of getting different resources and then unlocking teh puzzles in order to craft them, into useful items, and refining and tailoring the items in order to make them better, while I also find refreshing the more laid back stories rather than saving teh world from god with the power of friendship cliche that anime tropey games tend to have.

but dayum.. speaking of wihch i just watched the papgeno's video and while i usualoly don't enjoy much his videos and tend to roll, my eyes way too much , i found this one rather down to earth, even if it was a compilation of srtawgraspings. but i found interesting teh concpet he mentioned for arle that it was a character with 2 echoes. i actually like a lot the idea for sagas with different protagonist that play kinda similar, and i think worked great with the belmonts, mand it would also work great with teh alchemists since they share weapons and means fo attacking, but differ in personalities.

Still obviously not really expecting an atelier character, but i think i would squee waaay to hard if i get surprised like that.

BTW i really reccomend the dusk trilogy, is my personal favorite and i love Hidari's designs...

I think they did but most people didn't believe them. Mainly people who thought Hero wasn't worthy for Smash and people who thought Steve was more likely than Banjo.

Cannot recall seeing any with all 4 before any got revealed, even the ones that are 3 or 4 out of 5 were made after Joker got in.

Boy, those were interesting times because you could easily tell apart who actually knew about video game history and those who didn't.

Let's say that, after this current Fighters Pass, we get an announcement that the next DLC character will be a -style "bonus" character that comes completely by itself and isn't connected to any Passes. This character also has to follow the following two rules/guidelines...

1. The character has to have some reusable assets from Ultimate or the previous Smash games. Assist Trophies, Mii Fighter costumes, regular trophies, in-game model cameos... basically anything that can be used to help the development process go faster than just starting from scratch.
2. The character will not come with a stage, music, or spirits in order to lessen the workload, so it will likely be a character from a series that already has plenty of those in Smash already.

With those in mind, who would you pick for a hypothetical "bonus" character?
