Didn't Sakurai state that he was referring to newer series? Custom Robo came in 1999, before Animal Crossing came into existence.

Also, Noise really wants to make a new Custom Robo game and has heard fan demands for it. Not that it helps his odds since the game hasn't been confirmed, but it does show that there is still interest in the franchise. Link

That was still only 2 years prior (Animal Forest was 2001), and either way, both Animal Crossing and Pikmin came before Melee, so really, it's difficult to determine what he truly meant by "newer".
But I feel that since Custom Robo, Pikmin, and Animal Crossing debuted within 2 years of each other, and all have expanded since after Melee, that they all count.

Sakurai isn't specific, and it is hard to understand as to what he really means a lot of the time in specific and clear detail.

In addition to being very vague, often he plays dumb, and since Brawl has gotten alot more secretive about unused/cut/planned Smash content. And he's a massive tease.

Sakurai sounds like he would be an effective hooker now that I think about it. He has enough to tease off his business without showing his business. And once you get his business, you aren't sure what entirely was in the business, and what more business you could have gotten, and what business was delayed due to time constraints!

Sure in our arbitrary fandom they seem obvious

But Mewtwo wasn't important enough to put in the last game, though considered. Mega Man is a 3rd party, and Ridley wasn't even considered character material by Sakurai

Well with both Sakurais, there's alot he offers, some you love, some you like, some you could do without. You wish you knew what more he had to offer, but you keep coming back anyway because it's still a good time.

Honestly, the only difference between Solid and Naked Snake in appearance in their eyes and sometimes their clothes (and the eye patch).

But I think Solid Snake is the main appearance. Unless Sakurai likes dem eye patch. Still, Big Boss or Old Snake would be nice alternate costumes.

Also, seeing as how Smash Wii U/3DS will inevitably be T for Teen and similar ratings internationally, I think Snake's forward smash should involve his knife like in Project M.

Edit 2: Ganondorf should get Captain Falcon's super kick forward smash from Smash 64. It would be PERFECT FOR HIM!

careful mate people will go crazy for you saying that about Mewtwo. I learnt first hand what paying Mewtwo out brings.

Mewtwo is probably the most desired potential playable character not in Brawl on a international basis.

The problem was he was poorly balanced in Melee and probably belonged in the toilet rather than playable. Seriously, his down tilt "Tail Whip" would have half of the tail go through many characters and not hit characters. Mewtwo's hit boxes were bad, his moves were weak, his combos were weak, he was too light, he didn't do a lot of damage, and he literally had no strengths. You give Mewtwo Fox's tier status in Melee and he is hands down the most popular character in Melee, PERIOD!

Mega Man is up there, too, and is hands down the most desired 3rd party character for smash.

Ridley has and always will be a fan favorite BAMF, just like Captain Falcon, Falco, Meta Knight, Charizard, and Solid Snake before him.

Well think of Mewtwo this way guys: If Captain Falcon was garbage in Smash 64 and Melee and totally didn't live up to the hype as a playable character (like what happened with Mewtwo in Melee), don't you think there would be a noticeably higher chance he would be cut=???

I mean, unless a character is at like Bowser or Yoshi status, sucking to the point of being absolutely terrible usually is not a positive effect smasher's opinions and perspectives on said characters, unless they previously were really good (see: Kirby from great in Smash 64 to trash in Melee).
