Well Oasis, Sonic still had that Melee hoax that EGM pulled in 2002, so he was a popular choice for Smash as a result.
So even if Snake hadn't "opened the gates", Sonic still would've been a really popular choice. But at the same time, without Snake "opening the gates", Sonic may not have been allowed in.
Shame. Damn Sakurai for being a good friend.

Fact: Most of Sonic's support came from losers who couldn't shoot all the names in the credits.
Er...Sonic & Tails had nothing to do with the credits. It was beating 20 Wire Frames in Cruel Melee.

Toad was the credit hoax.

I didn't say that. I'm only saying that it didn't involve failing to shoot all the credits.
If you're going to insult a fanbase, do it properly.

Anyways, to be perfectly honest, I'd rather have Pac-Man than Mega Man, but that's just me.

Again, HOW can someone say that Sony Smash Bros going to better than Smash 4 when we haven't seen anything from Smash 4 yet. As a matter of fact, this is our first look at Sony Smash Bros, so it would be incredibly stupid to say that a game we haven't even played is going to be better than a game we haven't even seen

... Or maybe I'm just giving people too much credit
Ahh, I don't know. I am not really into the competitive scene... And at this point in my life cycle, I just don't have the time or the patience to learn about the intricate details like hitstun, number of frames, and whatnot... That's Kuma's department, not mine. I care about characters, stages, accessibility, and fun more. And to me, it is nice to see more games like Smash Bros. even if they might or might not outdo the original. It's nice to have more selections in the gaming market... I am quite interested in this game so far... It's got Kratos, at least. :awesome:

I don't know who the characters are, and I don't even own the system

Even if it's the superior game, I'm not getting it

Edit: It's like Sony didn't make characters until AFTER I stopped buying their products

There's so much gaming news flying around, it's like a harbinger of the impending E3 storm.
This is going to be the best E3 (I think) since 2006. We might be shown the 2 other consoles for the 8th Generation of Gaming, we're going to see a lot of what the Wii U is capable of, and we'll probably going to see loads of new content for the 3DS (we already have, at least). And that's not to mention the sheer number of awesome games we're going to see more of, finally see revealed, and possibly new content for all kinds of games! Needless to say, I'm hyped! :)

Yeah, E3 will be awesome this year. Nintendo's press conference last year was great, and I'm expecting it to be even better this year. I'm excited to hear or see anything new about the Wii U, from the console, the controller and of course, the games. Nintendo always has a bunch of surprises that they reveal during E3.

^^^ Yeah, I'm expecting stuff from a ton of Nintendo series to rock my socks. Mario (NEW Super Mario Bros 2 and/or Super Mario Wii U), Donkey Kong (possibly another Country game), Zelda (Zelda Wii U and/or Zelda 3DS), Metroid (whether a continuation of Prime, a new start for Retro Studios, or a followup to Other M), Star Fox (a Retro Studios game, one from Miyamoto himself, or both), Pokémon (loads of Black and White 2 content), F-Zero (Wii U or 3DS games are possible, but I think a Wii U F-Zero would generate more buzz and would be better), Fire Emblem 13 (stuff about it leaving Japan), Pikmin 3 (hopefully we finally get to see it), Animal Crossing (3DS and possibly Wii U), new Wii U series games, etc. are all possibilities. Minds will probably be blown! Best of all, Nintendo won't be the only company with huge game announcement news most likely!
[COLLAPSE="Here is the character list:"]1. Toad Good, not great.
2. Dixie Kong 90's Stylish status. Pretty much all awesome
3. King K. Rool From a godlike platform series. The boss fights against him in DKC1-3+DK64 are all classics.
4. Ghirahim Annoying, uninspired, and overdone. Basically, a summary of Skyward Sword compared to the classic games of the Zelda franchise.
5. Bandana Dee Forgettable, but adorable.
6. Ridley Incredible character and boss from some of the greatest works of art mankind has ever made. Gunpei Yokoi is a genius. RIP!
7. Krystal Terrible games that killed a great series. Basically, as bad as this.
8. Goroh Somewhere in between good and great.
9. Palutena Fan service. Also, funny.
10. Mewtwo The definition of awesome.
11. Zoroark Generic-looking, but cool.
12. Roy Awesome as heck.
13. Little Mac The best Rocky clone of all-time!
14. Saki Good character, bland series.
15. Takamaru Pretty good character.[/COLLAPSE]
Really, Mega Man just... "fits" perfectly with all those Nintendo characters in Smash. Plus, Mega Man is in my opinion (and many people's opinion) better than and in better games than a lot of/most of/all of the Nintendo character candidates that we're talking about. I mean, how many of those characters have been in 1 classic game, let alone 3 in a row=???

green axe dwarf for ssb4 :awesome:
seriously my dream character that has .0001% chance.

anyway, no one commented on the whole, "there only being 4 moves in brawl that cause ice."

i think that if they're going to add elemental attacks to a game, they should have euqal oppertunity. or at least close to it.
again:
66 fire moves
70 electric moves
9 dark moves
4 ice moves? wth?

Don't complain about the number of Ice moves, I like the Water moves and there's only 3. :urg:
And Grass moves are even more horrible in number.

Ahh yes, lets hope this E3 gets us as inspired as last year. It also means more people entering here, which is both good and bad (not for bad ideas, but because it'll be hard to keep track of anything one another says when this thread gets so hot it has a white flame ;) ), but it brings fresh ideas which is nice. :-)

My dream character to go in? Probably mewtwo. There are a couple others in there but mewtwo is one of my favourite pokemon, up there with mew and charizard.

John, I doubt the other two consoles are gonna be shown this year (although these rumors are kinda persistent about it)

I guess in this case, the designers only really cared about "hurr boobz and thighs" rather than the actual character, lol

Same here mah boi, although that dream in particular may seriously become a reality ;)

I am actually starting to find Mega Man not as likely as I did.

I mean, as stated, Sonic had a huge following for him; he was from what I understand, the most wanted character for Brawl worldwide (though most of his support came from the West, as Sakurai said). Mega Man? While possibly the most wanted 3rd Party, is far from the most wanted character in general. He's still got people like Ridley ahead of him, as well as Mewtwo and Roy, cut veterans.

And even then, Sonic wasn't even added into Brawl until 2007. Think about it; had Sonic not been so demanded, we would've only had Snake as a 3rd Party.
So what does this mean for Mega Man? That unless he "steps it up" :sonic:, and becomes the top character for Smash 4, he might not make it. Heck, we might not get any new 3rd Party, and just keep Snake and Sonic as is.
And then there's the fact that Capcom pretty much said that it's up to Nintendo/Sakurai, which means that they aren't going to put in the effort to have him included.
Actually, you do bring up a very, VERY good point (as usual). Honestly, while I still think Classic Mega Man is the all-around best newcomer choice as far as third parties go, I would perfectly fine with just us keeping Sonic and Snake. I just don't wanna anyone to get cut again (even though I'll UNDERSTAND if Sonic and Snake get cut)

This should be a model for how Smash Wii U and 3DS' offensive potential look like.

I could use some good combos in a new Smash game. I'd also love to see bottom tier characters not be totally garbage for once!

By the way Smooth Criminal, what characters are your most wanted newcomers, and what potential newcomer characters do you think are the mostly to appear in Smash Wii U and/or Smash 3DS=???
No. NO. Why would you suggest something like that. Smash's success was specifically not doing this.

As far as Layton Vs. Megaman
There is no debate. Now, if we are talking sales, it's another thing, but I figure this whole runaround has been about Megaman being in Smash.

I don't even know why Layton and Slime get brought up. No one really wants them and the people that would be like "Oh man, awesome!" are few and far between. Megaman will actually get people excited (as shown by how he is far and beyond more requested then both of them).

For third parties, you really have to get people on board. They have to be really interesting for multiple reasons, from marketing, to justifying their specialty. Megaman makes sense because people would be excited for his inclusion. Slime and Layton don't have that. Lastly, you can't apply the same rules to third party characters you can for Nintendo characters. Layton and Dragon Quest probably do better than Megaman, but it's not relevant when discussing third parties.

Hmmm. It is true that Sakurai has had requests for third-party characters before, and only Sonic's demand was so overwhelming. If only we knew Mega Man's standings in the Brawl poll.

At least he's noted he's a pretty popular character in the West...? Though, Mega Man may become more requested if only by circumstance, because he's the most popular third-party character and there's an expectation of more third-party characters. I mean, if Snake hadn't let it be known that third-parties were OKAY, I wonder how Sonic would have done in the Brawl poll?
I'm sure he would have gotten a lot. People always asked for him on GameFAQ and Nsiders.

Believe it or not, I don't look at frame too much beyond finding out what's safe or unsafe and what attacks I combo with each other. This is mostly because I get a feel from the frame data after playing a game so much. One reason why I never post up frame data for movesets but rather state if it's safe or unsafe, if anything.

And Shorts, since we were talking about Dalkstalkers, I want to know what you think of this character design. Her name is Squiggly and she's an upcoming DLC character for Skullgirls. IMO, she and Peacock fit Skullgirls' art style the best.

A game isn't good unless the only way to win is to develop your muscle memory. There should be as little variables as possible. What is the root word for variable again. Oh well, I'm sure it's a terrible word that doesn't belong in any PERFECT game. For example, Mario Kart needs to stop being ****, pandering to those drooling casuals that don't know what they're doing, and instead make it so each race is essentially you trying to achieve the perfect time trial run. Though other players might get in the way, so you'd have to make it as though everyone is a ghost that can pass through each other.

Perfection.

Maybe if we're talking about single player games, but this does not necessarily apply to multiplayer games. With a fighting game, I can have the best muscle memory in the world for my combos, but if I have no strategy to get in and do my combos, then it's worthless. The same goes for the other way around. I need muscle memory in order to pull off very damaging combos that I know how to set up (meaning create the situation to do it).

And yes, there is a maid in Skullgirls. In fact, she's the final boss, but she's not playable for the time being.

She's actually a pain to fight, even on the easiest difficulty after you figure out that one hole in her defense.

And Pac-Man, too. Because Pac-Man is according to some polls the most recognizable face in gaming. A Disney kid's show will only make him more recognizable.
The problem with Pac-Man is that only a few people would want to see him in Smash. Mega Man is by far the most wanted third-party characters and a few others beat him as well (namely Layton, Slime, and Geno).

Possibly the most wanted? He is by far the most wanted third-party character and no one comes close. Also, I would argue that he's in the Top 5 for most wanted characters thanks to *supposedly* being definitely in the Top 5 in Japan (if ChronoBound's words are trustworthy) and being very highly requested overseas as well.

As for who's he behind, I wouldn't say far behind. At worst he's probably in 4th place in demands and at best in 3rd. Which is really good considering we have Mewtwo, K. Rool, Ridley and Isaac in contention. Also, Roy, while very popular, is not as wanted as Mega Man overseas. He might be the most wanted in Japan, but remember that Sakurai looks towards the West for demands and he does take a considerable drop when you head west.

That said, the rest of the post is fair game, but I felt the quote above needs addressing.

The real question is, can he do it in canon?

I'm only teasing btw.
Considering Mario Sports Mix is developed by Square...

You know, this really has nothing to do with what John and I were discussing last night. The only reason Slime got brought up is because we were discussing the role of mascots in both the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series. Professor Layton was only brought up as a response and to make a point. :|

You missed the spoiler my dude
