How about Anna as a Fire Emblem character? She is in 12 of the 13 games (closest is Naga mentioned in only mentioned in 8 of them, two of them remakes), and she is finally playable in 13.
I want evidence of this.

Her boyfriend was playable in FE11 & FE12 though. Together with Marth.

Uprising really feels more like a Smash game than a Kid Icarus game.

Uprising = Melee/Brawl
Idols = Trophies
Idol Toss = Lottery (Melee), Coin Launcher (Brawl)
Records = Records
Treasure Hunt = Challenges (Brawl)
Practice Range = Training
Gear (Weapons, Powers) = Stickers
Move Out! = Adventure Mode

If Arms Altar gets a Smash counterpart, I think this would be where we buy stickers and possibly alternate costumes and maybe combine (fuse) characters' moves/stats as a way of "building up your character" or something.
Don't forget the ease of controls (not complicated). This game has Sakurai written all over it.

She definitely deserves some recognition like the Pegasus Sisters, but not as playable. She'd be better off as an NPC running an item shop maybe?

I actually put forth the idea of Anna as an example of a possible Fire Emblem newcomer that is not simply the current face of the series at the time of development.

Anyway, where did you hear that Anna is playable in FE13? So far as I know, her role in FE13 is guardian of the dimension gate.

She is shown as playable in the newest famitsu. I'm not going to link because of the questionable legality of the scans.

@Arcadenik/--- Another thing that tells us Sakruai made KI:U is that the game's menus are laid out almost the exact same as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Kirby Air Ride!

I wonder if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Not the ease of controls, but everything else because it's starting to look like Kirby SS and Subspace all over again.

BTW, go check out the Project M changes for Bowser, Dedede, ROB, and DK. Among other things, DK has his proper dash attack and ROB's Up B has been redesigned to be reminiscent of Cave Story.

He's probably referring to the reading and loading issues.

The problem is who gets to define "complete". For example, in many people's eyes, Star Fox is "complete", yet in yours, it is not. I personally think Waddle Dee is basically the Kirby series equivalent of Krystal, so I don't get how you can think one is more likely than the other one.
"complete" is pretty subjective, kind of why I used quotes, because people can argue Tingle is needed to complete LoZ, or maybe you think you need Waddle Dee to complete Kirby.

[COLLAPSE=""Complete" in Shorts eyes"]Super Mario
• Mario
• Luigi
• Peach
• Bowser
• Toad (Debatable)
• Junior (Debatable)
I really don’t think Toad or Junior are QUITE on the level that the other four are, TBH. But, I added them because I think it could be argued that they are/will be. Doc doesn’t actually make this list, even if he is a legitimate choice, I don’t think he is a key character to the Mario franchise. Same goes for Paper Mario, and Geno, and that loser Waluigi.

Yoshi Story
• Yoshi
• Kamek
No one wants Baby Bowser right? Kamek is the main villain IMO. Shy Guys can piss off, and so can the Baby Bros. They’re…. they’re whatever.

WarioWare/Land
• Wario
• Captain Syrup
• Mona/Jimmy T.
Mona has my vote, but I think either is fine. Characters like Ashley remind me of…. Jiggs. They’re randomly popular, but not all that “Important”. Plus Ware probably only needs a single character. But whatever, I thought she was worth mentioning.

Donkey Kong Country
• Donkey Kong
• Diddy Kong
• King K. Rool
• Dixie Kong
For Donkey Kong, I would like to make a note of Cranky Kong. While he isn’t playable character Material, I do think he would be considered a “Main” character, despite being less important that the four I’ve listed above. Funky Kong, doesn’t mean much to Smash… just putting that one out there.
Legend Of Zelda
• Link
• Zelda / Sheik
• Ganondorf
• Child Link
• Tingle
The reason Sheik is on this list is because she simply IS Zelda, and when it comes to Smash she is just as important as Jiggly and Ness. They’re weird veterans who have big fan bases, even if they aren’t too important to their series’. Ghirahim and the other one shots, not important. I could list them all, but we know who they are. Also, I guess I could bring up Toon Zelda / Tetra. There. I brought them up.

Pokemon
• Pikachu
• Jigglypuff
• Pokemon Trainer (Char/Ivy/Squirt)
• Lucario
• Mewtwo
• Fifth Generation rep / Sixth Gen Rep
• 2nd/3rd Generation rep (Debatable)
While I think it’s a travesty that the third Generation never got it’s rep, it probably isn’t going to happen. It could be argued you need all Gens to rep Pokemon correctly, and it can also be argued you only need the first Gen to have all the key characters. Pick a side, or don’t. I don’t care. And never talk to me about Pokemon Rangers. You fool.

Kirby Series
• Kirby
• King Dedede
• Meta Knight
• Bandana Dee (Debatable)
I honestly DON’T KNOW how prominent he is, but I think he’s worth a mention… I think. He might fall under the same Junior/Toad argument. I don’t think Magalor and Fluff need to be explained? Do they?

Metroid
• Samus / ZSS
• Ridley
I actually think ZSS is an important character, but whatever. Shoutout to Dark Samus. If I was going to add “Kinda Important” characters to the list, she/he would be up there.

StarFox
• Fox
• Falco
• Wolf
• Krystal
That’s it. No Leon, no Slippy. These four. Although I think I SHOULD mention Andross. An important, obviously, NPC.

Mother
• Ness
• Lucas
• Porky
• Claus / MM
I would like to start off by saying I think Ninten might make this list, but I think four is enough for Mother. Giygas probably should be mentioned as well. He falls under the Andross category.

Fire Emblem
• Marth
• Ike
• Roy
• Chrome/Future FE Lord
Chrome may not mean a thing, but someday, there might just be another FE lord that is as important as these three. I’m sure there are more I should mention, but I think they fall under the same category as Mother. I can’t mention every freaking important FE character.

F-Zero
• Captain Falcon
• Samurai Goroh
• Black Shadow
The way I’ve had it explained to me is sorta like this? CF is Fox, Goroh is Wolf, and BS is Andross? Shoutout to Jody Summers. Toise can make that argument for her, I certainly can’t.

Kid Icarus
• Pit
• Medusa
• Palutena
Regaurdless of how well KI:U sells, these characters are necessary if you want to complete this franchise. And no, that guy with the big sword, isn’t. Magnus. That’s his name.

~ Now, there isn’t anything wrong with less important characters. I like Dark Samus, Geno, and Midna.. I just don’t expect them, and they really don’t mean NEARLY as much as the characters listed above. This list is all about Key Characters, and finishing franchises. They are cool though, I can give them that. Olimar, Ice Climber, ROB, and Game & Watch are, fine. You should know that.

Third Party Choices
• Sonic
• Snake
• Bomberman
• Pac – Man
• Megaman
• Ryu
• Black Mage
• Slime
Layton is cool, he really is. But hello? Level-5 < SEGA, Capcom, Konami, Namco and Square Enix. Bomberman makes about a million times more sense than Snake, that’s why he is up there. Tails, and NiGHTS, and Shadow are jokes. Pac-Man I Namco’s freaking face, and ace. He’s thefaceace. Great choice. SE could go with Slime, but I think Black Mage is a smarter choice. Either is good though. And Megaman and Ryu are both awesome choices. You pick your faves. Ryu for me, Meganman for you. Ryu Hotsauce, or whatever his name is, doesn’t matter. Geno was mentioned in the Mario slots, where he belongs. Uhhh, Tekken and SC aren’t the best choices, same with RE (Even though it’s probably Capcom’s most lucrative franchise). Banjo Kazooie will never happen, I’m sorry everyone. And, then… we have like, Castlevania… who is mentionable, but yeah, it’s Snake or Bombs in my mind. Anyone I missed? Too bad.
[/COLLAPSE]

I think this is a pretty accurate picture of the "key characters" for each franchise.

I hope Smash 3DS doesn't have the controls like Uprising. It is so hard to play this game because I am left handed. I had to change the controller options to find a setting that suits me. Why Sakurai didn't include the lock-targeting in Uprising is beyond me. This is why I liked shooting stuff in Zelda 3D games and Metroid Prime.

Well, there are powers that can help lock on to targets (and there is also something for that in the options too called Aim Assist)

As for Smash 3DS controls, there is no doubt that the 3DS can play like a home console controller. I own this 3DS game called Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion (a Super Smash Bros. knock-off) and I absolutely love the controls on that game as it works perfectly (buttons only but they did use the touch screen for the Final Smash Punch Time Explosion) and I'll definitely make my control scheme on Smash 3D the same as Punch Time Explosion's control scheme.

You should get the circle pad pro. The option for to utilize the circle pad pro in Uprising, was made specifically for left-handed players.

Batman on steroids would be cool, too. I'd rather Goroh get in before him, though

There's a lot of badass F-Zero characters that would be great for Smash, honestly

You mean using stylus controls? That is a non issue all together. Not going to happen to smash bros, even if it did, it would only be an option.

Zelda and Metroid aren't focused on shooting and fighting, so locking on in that sense works better.

Kid Icarus has become a shooting game, so ones actual skill in being accurate is important.
Now if the focus wasn't on combat like Metroid or Zelda then I bet lock on controls would have been used. But it's a shooting game like Star Fox, so no Z or L targeting.

In Star Fox Adventures, Fox would automatically target most enemies that he runs into.
Yeah that's Star Fox Adventures, an adventure game like Zelda where the focus is not on combat. So locking on like that works. What I meant was a real Star Fox game obviously.

Kid Icarus is by definition now a shooting game, for the most part you've got to aim yourself.
Metroid Prime is an adventure game. One focuses on the adventure, not how accurate your shots are. Metroid Prime Hunters is a shooting game, more emphasis on the combat and typical FPS multiplayer, gotta aim yourself for the most part.

How would people feel if Waluigi Pinball popped up as a stage!? You'd battle while avoiding incoming pinballs.

On the flipside, however, it would make Waluigi quite jealous, especially considering that he's not in Mario Kart 7.

I dunno, probably with Gooey being higher on the pre-Melee poll than even Meta Knight, and Sakurai apparently being nice enough to give him a trophy instead of denouncing him as he's done Adeleine tells me that Gooey doesn't have 0 chance.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Bandana Waddle Dee get prominent AFTER Sakurai left Hal? And Sakurai didn't make RtDL? And it was only one prominent role?
So it would come to reason that Bandana Dee is no better than Gooey or Adeleine, due to having only one "major" appearance in a game not made by Sakurai as well.

However, Kirby is unlikely to get a Newcomer anyway.

EDIT: Btw, Sakurai made Super Star, so he did make Knuckle Joe and Marx...
he also made Bandanna Dee, since he was an opponent in Megaton Punch in the original SS.

the remake booted him up even further by making him a miniboss in the stadium.

Woah, that just blew my mind.

I've never thought about that possibility until now.

What if the way the 3DS game plays is completely different from every console version?
Holy crap, I don't know if I hate that thought, or if I love it.
Like, what if it's not just a 2D platform-fighter like always, but 3D? What if it DID play *a little* like Uprising.

PS: I'm having no problem with Uprising's control. But then Pit lands and I get frustrated. I didn't like to spin the camera around him "like a globe". But that's the only problem I have, so...

Also, the game is fu**ing beautiful.

if the 3DS version had the camerta stlye of KI, I wouldn't mind much-remind me of Dissisdia or something.

but I doubt they would make it that you attack by touching the screen.

I just hope that the game focuses on the buttons, instead of the touch screen for most actions. In Dillon's Rolling Western, you literally had to use the touch screen for everything, except for three actions.

This is Sakurai we are talking about. His views on the Wii remote when making Brawl should settle all fears. If we get the option we get the option, but no way it's going to take precedence over what has been established. Especially for a fighting game. Maybe a quick touch button for specials or smashes, but nothing you would be forced to use.

I don't think it can settle 100% of "fears"...

He may have views and opinions for console SSB's, and a completely different point of view for the 3DS version.

The point is: It's the first time he is doing something like that. Not only he is making a portable version of SSB, he is making it AND the WiiU version at the same time. I don't think we can predict ANYTHING he might put in the 3DS version...

I can't even imagine a quick touch thing for a game like Smash. It'd be one thing if we were talking about doing the EWGF from Tekken or something, but the execution to do any one move in Smash is borderline insulting (in a good way).

I think the touch screen might be used where an independent player can control the stage hazards and it's something that would work on the WiiU as well.

BTW, this is what a 3D Smash would probably play like.
