I saw a very peculiar post on a Japanese site. There was someone that said he thought Metroid would definitely not get a newcomer in Smash 4, and someone responded to that post and said that Ridley is extremely popular overseas and he might get in just for that.

This is my favorite thing you've found from over there.

Unless there is some hidden sarcasm I'm supposed to detect or if it's a part of some inside joke that I'm not aware of, but you incorrectly spelled "success".

Ehh, I could see him getting in.

And the too tall to be playable thing is irrelevant with anything Nintendo related. Spread some Nintendo logic dust and it should all be fine.

Apparently Starfy is in Super Princess Peach as a common enemy. I'm looking at the sprites, and it's pretty much EXACTLY Starfy. You can especially tell with its "running", "sliding", and "swimming" sprites. O.o

The funniest thing is, that makes Super Princess Peach Starfy's first overseas game. :laugh:

That is hilarious. They probably look over at us sometimes and say similar things, laughing to themselves.

I believe he means outside of them, as they are vetarans, not newkomers.

No, I meant newkomers.

Kan't you see I'm trying to go with the fad?

King K. Rool likes to replake (wait, that one doesn't work...) his Cs with Ks.

So, got a question for those of you here who have either been playing or following Kid Icarus: Uprising. I was wondering, what level would you like to see a stage based around in the next Super Smash Bros?

Nah, they count. The right answers are probably Little Mac, Mega Man, Mewtwo, and Roy. So with K. Rool and Ridley, that's six characters. They top the pack, without a doubt. Two of those are veterans, and one isn't even a Nintendo character.

Se we only have K. Rool and Ridley as the two major characters from two major Nintendo series, and it's just unfathomable that, when Sakurai is thinking about the roster, that he would neglect adding actual major, popular, recognizable characters.

@Ridley talk

  • Ridley is the second most important character in the Metroid series, PERIOD.
  • He is Samus' nemesis, he is the one who killed her parents.
  • He is the character that appears in most games besides Samus.
  • Just try to tell me a character that is more fitting than Ridley to fight in a Smash Bros. Every character you might thing about is a bounty hunter/space marine who appeared in ONE game[no exceptions], or is a character that will OBVIOUSLY be a clone, if it's in[Dark Samus, I'm looking at you].
  • The series is a little popular. It's CLEARLY more popular than series like Fire Emblem and Mother. It should get a new character for that...

Let's do some math:
Metroid needs a new character in Smash + Ridley is the best possible option for a new Metroid character = ???

If someone comes with the ole' "he's too big" talk, I'll just say:
[COLLAPSE="BAM"]
[/COLLAPSE]
[COLLAPSE="BAM"]
[/COLLAPSE]

You've been Metroid-fan'ed :cool:

Let's talk Megaman a little. As we know Megaman has over 80+ robot master themes (also including special stages and other stuff like that). What is the number one robot master tune you all want to be on the Megaman stage if he were in? Any one, from 1-10, and including Rockman and Forté.

That's actually at tough call, there are a lot of places that would make for a good stage.

But I'm starting to lean towards a stage that pulls somthing similar to Lylat Cruise.

Could be done while fighting on a platform carried/pulled by centurions ala Chapter 17. The game does seem to push the power of flight so it could happen. Could even have the Gods make cameos through the giant holograms they use throughout the game.

Ex. Flys to the Labyrinth of Deceit, Gaol's Castle, Space Pirate Ship, Lunar Sanctum, Chaos Vortex, Underworld, Aurum Hive, etc. There is a lot of places that could be visited.

The sad thing is that other than, most other Japanese Smash fans think Metroid won't be getting any newcomers for Smash 4, and Ridley himself only gets a few requests. I actually saw a lot more requests for Ridley pre-Brawl in Japan (though back then I was only looking at opinions at two sites). I think now they simply think Ridley's status for now on in Smash Bros. will be a boss. I think the same thing goes for Toad, the character himself is very popular in Japan, but they seem to think his shot at playable status is ruled out due to being Peach's neutral-special for two games now.

tl;dr version of vicgur's post- Ridley's a great choice because he's highly requested and is also a key character of his series, Metroid. He's one of the few characters not playable in a Smash game yet that just makes perfect sense to be in

Yeah, I really don't see what the Ridley Hype is all about. It's not because of the size issue that everyone can't seem to shut up about. It's that I've never found Ridley as a cool or interesting character (and he kinda looks like a generic dragon). If he gets in, that fine and I won't be mad but chances are I won't crap my pants in excitement if he gets confirmed.

Ridley is definitely the most important Nintendo character not yet playable in Smash Bros. He is arch-nemesis of the Metroid series and has not only been in the series since the very beginning, but he has also been in nearly every game to the series, and is the most popular and well-known Metroid character next to Samus.

Well, a lack of Japanese popularity doesn't lessen Ridley's probability much at all; Sonic was added in last minute because of primarily Western popularity, if I remember correctly. Ridley could be added now for the same reason (as I type, actually...development has started). There are virtually no more important characters to add before Ridley to justify his exclusion like there were for Brawl. Also, if the Smash Bros. Crusade fangame team can make Ridley playable, Sakurai certainly can.

I would say that title goes to the Miis.

The Miis are arguable (they are relatively new, whereas, Ridley has been around for over 25 years). However, simply looking at series that already have playable characters in Smash Bros., Ridley is definitely the most important character not yet playable.

I was thinking the only thing that puts Ridley above K. Rool (kind of arguable) is that K. Rool hasn't exactly been a prominent character since DK64. Whereas Ridley continues to be featured, even majorly (what's with me and that word today), in recent games.

I don't think you can argue with the fact that the Wii series is the third best selling gaming franchise of all time. Metroid definitely isn't, and Ridely isn't a large reason for the Metroid sales, like the Miis are for the Wii series sales.

I still think you're thinking too inside the Smash Spec bubble if you consider Ridley the most important, not yet playable character, and not the Miis.

If you are talking about importance, then Ridley is definitely heaps more important than K. Rool. Ridley was around before K. Rool debuted, and he continued to make major appearances after K. Rool stopped (which ironically enough, Ridley did not appear in any more games from the release of DKC to the release of DKC64). I mean sure K. Rool showed up in Paon's games, but they were genuinely regarded as being mediocre spinoffs, whereas the biggest two DK games released since DK64 were Jungle Beat and Country Returns.

Fixed. With that being said I'd prefer Ridley over mii.
