With that logic then Boshi should be in Smash instead of Yoshi.

Toad also stands out in Mario games. In the same game (Super Mario RPG) Toad was specifically named in the game among the other toad guards. In the lineup he stood in the front row in the left column. He also helped Mario out in the games Mario had to play.
Except Boshi isn't a recurring character in the series, whereas Toadsworth appears quite often.

Hey all, I'm new to this whole discussion and I've only read a few pages back, but I've been seeing something pop up that I just don't get. Why are Sakurai and others so against the idea of only adding characters/stages to the game?. I may be in the minority here, but to me, for a fighting game at least, simply adding to the roster and stage list is enough material for another game, so long as it's substantial enough. I mean, Brawl has enough modes and bells and whistles to keep it going. The only other improvements I could think of are a better stage builder and a less annoying story mode. Other than that, changes to core gameplay are negligible, considering the fairly simple dynamics of a fighting game. Ideally (in my opinion), SSB4 would really just be a mix of the mechanics that worked in Brawl and Melee, the same modes as Brawl with the improvements I mentioned, and a slew of new characters and stages, AND the most important part, regular patches that further balance existing characters as well as adding new ones. My main game that I play is DotA, and although it obviously is a wholly different game, that kind of design works well, and I don't see why it wouldn't work for Smash. I'll post about my ideal roster a lil later.

tl;dr: Why won't they just make a Smash sequel that offers little more than a bigger roster? Why do they get bogged down with other additions?

Aside from characters and stages, they need to focus on the online, because online gaming is huge now and is one of the main things that games like SSB need considering the large community. Because Brawl's online was just gutter trash.

Id really want the return of board the platform, race to the finish, and every character having their own target smash.

Ya know, if Pichu was fixed up alot, like the dmg taking thing, he'd be a VERY popular Pkmn on sm4sh, hands down.
Ive made up a completely new moveset for him. check out my group if you want to see it. Its focused on using the ukulele and capture stylus more than electric attacks.

People and Sakurai want something more unique than Melee 2 or Brawl 2. I had a Word document with a list of core gameplay changing ideas I came up with (nothing too huge though; don't want to mess with a formula that works so well too much). It'll be posted along with my finished character roster, stage roster, and story mode ideas, along with a list of all the little nuances that I believe are the key to making SSB from a great game into a perfect game.

Pichu's whole schtick in Smash Bros. is that he is a joke character. Of course he is supposed to be bad. That's also part of his charm.

Also the Spikey Ear Pichu event. From what I've been hearing, Japan's coming up with a new Pichu event. Spikey Ear chu coming back? Idk, nor is the rumor comfirmed.

@Chrono Tbh, he really shouldn't be.

You don't know that. I'm not defending him or anything, but you can just make assumptions just like that.

You also just can't make the assumption that old people can't fight.
I hear ya. I agree, Toadsworth could be awesome as a fighter. However, nobody can speculate for sure he will or won't be in the game on the assertion that he's old.

...I can't believe I just read all the posts since I last posted, lol!

10 bucks says the pics'll show Mario, Kirby, Link and Pikachu again on Battlefield
We may just get pictures of where the art and/or game direction is going for both games, or what the graphics for both games look like for both of them.
I expect less than we initially got from Brawl. But I expect we'll get more trailers later in development.
Pretty much this... kinda. I think we'll still get the "Dojo hell," but we'll get a lot more trailers. Maybe not super long trailers, but a lot of trailers. It would be awesome if, along with pictures, we got video of newcomers in action on the Dojo the day they were announced. 3rd Party characters would require much longer videos for lots of added hype.
Looks like everyone has a reason to hate Capcom.
Would have loved to see a Nintendo version of it.
I don't think you could hold that much against Nintendo in this entire millennium compared to what Capcom did to destroy their brand, games, and fanbase in 2011.
Sheik's playstyle yes, what's wrong with Impa taking ocer that playstyle?
Especially since she actually had a role?
Neither of them do much. Impa appears in five scenes and two conversations in Ocarina of Time. Sheik appears a lot more than that. Plus let's be honest; regardless of whether Ocarina of Time is the "best" Zelda game or not, most people, including those working at Nintendo and on smash, consider it to be. The only time a character was supposed to be replaced (with near identical moves) was Ness being replaced by Lucas. Look how that turned out.
I'm pretty curious why Ridley had a lot of support back in the Melee days anyway.
The opening trailer of Melee had an awesome scene of Ridley and Samus battling. That stirred up the fandom. The same (to a lesser extent) goes for Wolf with his opening scene battle with Fox. I don't know about you, but seeing both of those in the opening still gets me hyped to the point where I got major fanboyish goosebumps.

And some of you made some terrible character suggestions while I was away for 2 days. Seriously... 3 Links and 2 Sonics=???

Side note: @ asage
That gif made me laugh! ;)

Side note #2: Y'all need to vote for Kuma and SmashChu as "Smash Brothers" in the forum awards! :awesome: Ya know, since they got a bro-mance going on.... :smirk: ;) :embarrass:

LMAO, half the posts in my absense were about how stupid the conversation was. That's right, complaining about the conversation makes it dumber. However, complaining about the complaining of the conversation (like what I'm doing) :bee: always totally 100% helps the conversation! :awesome: :denzel:

And seriously, Kuma and SmashChu would be perfect for each other. They seem like two old guys that TBS or NBC would make a sitcom out of!

I am pretty sure Ridley is the only character that was popularly requested during pre-Melee that is still popularly requested now.

By comparison, Toad and K. Rool although they had some requests ore-Melee, were not popular until Brawl (though Toad has probably seen the peak of his requests with pre-Smash 4). Wario was the most reqyuested "Mario" character after Bowser and Peach were unveiled. Most DK fans wanted Diddy Kong as Diddy's second spot. Most retro supporters went to Pit before Little Mac.

Mindgames have overwhelmed Metal, son!

Perhaps we should downgrade Metal Overlord to Iron Noble, eh=??? :awesome:

Also, happy new years...ish...time!
Hehehe... Mindgames that were unintentional! Man, I'm good

I guess people can't say I'm a Metroid fan/haven't been posting on here a lot after that huh. :awesome:
No worries, man. We still love you. Even Misty loves ya :awesome:

Are you already doing it?
Yes, but I'm referring to a poll that Shortiecanbrawl does that he has on his signature. He already has a 2011 variation running now and I recall him wanting a new and improved poll for 2012. Basically, I want to get that poll in so that he can use it. Top Roster Candidates v2 (soon to be Top 20 Roster Candidates) will not be affected by it.

@ChronoBound: What about Mega Man? I recall Sakurai stating he got a lot of demand for him.

On a side note, Samurai Goroh was someone who saw his best days during pre-Melee (of which he was on almost nearly roster, and thought to be in the game by many due to his appearance in Melee's trailer). His requests to be in Brawl were less than what I saw for Melee, and his requests to be in Smash 4 are much less than what I saw for Brawl. I think the primary reason for this is because there has not been a new F-Zero game since 2004. Heck, even Black Shadow only has a few requests.

People say that there should be a second F-Zero character, yet their exists little support for either Samurai Goroh or Black Shadow. I think if a new F-Zero game were announced this might change, however, for now it seems that most Smash fans quietly think that F-Zero is fine with only Captain Falcon.

I am a really big fan of F-Zero, however, if the series remains in hiatus throughout Smash 4's development, I see little reason for it to receive a newcomer.

Stop it asage, you... you're making me blush :embarrass:

All these Misty references are making me realize even further how much I love old Pokemon and want Mewtwo back into Smash. The day that I see his announcement/spot on the DOJO is gonna be one hell of a day if it happens. :)

Before Brawl, everyone would roll their eyes up anyone who suggested third-party characters for Smash Bros.

When Snake was unveiled, Mega Man was definitely the second most requested third-party character. However, Mega Man was never as requested as much as the likes of Sonic, Ridley, Diddy Kong, King Dedede, Wolf/Krystal, or Olimar.

Now Mega Man is definitely among the most wanted characters for Smash 4, with the only ones I think definitely having more requests for him being the reptilian villain duo (Ridley and K. Rool).

I had mixed feelings about Wolf getting into Brawl.

I was pleasantly surprised at first because I thought Krystal would get in before him, but I wasn't expecting him to be a clone, and I was a little disappointed to find out he had pretty much the same Final Smash and special moves as Fox and Falco.

Then I found everything else was different about him but I still can't totally get into his playstyle.

But nothing beats my initial rage when I found out that BOTH Mewtwo and Roy were cut (until I found out they were planned, of course, then I got some closure).

Johto= Best of Pokemon, game-wise
Togepi is a rather cute Pokemon in the 2nd generation. When I saw the Dianond and Pearl saga though, I did find it odd that some Togepi can be quite bratty. I guess even the cutest creatures can cause mayhem when they put their minds into it.

Sadly, the only good 2nd generation rep is Pichu, who got ditched from Brawl.

I disagree. All generations have two or more good reps, due to PKMN Trainers. The second gen is very good with trainer rep, because Gold (Tommy) Had his own "Series" Called the Pokemon Chronicles... in a way.

Omfg... read this..
Me: No dude! You're not listening. Anyone can be a brawler, it's just Sakurai's choice.
P2: No it's not, Sakurai makes the desicions, and him only.
Is my @$$ speaking, or something?

I don't get why everyone beats up on Lucas and Wolf for being "clones". They are only five moves away from being completely unique characters. Everything else about them is different from Ness and Fox. Wolf was the right choice for the third Star Fox character anyway, especially considering that the only new installment that the series has received since Brawl was a remake/port of Star Fox 64.

The only "newcomer" (I put this in parenthesis since I believe Toon Link to just be Young Link underneath a new name) to truly be a clone of the Melee variety was Toon Link. Heck, even Ganondorf and Falco have more different moves from their originals than Toon Link does.
