Johnknight bud, I don't think that a 5th or 6th gen furry isn't happening. I know that Pokemon is their golden goose and that they are going to market and milk it in practically any way I can. I even support Victini as the 5th gen rep.

I just like to play the devil's advocate for this type of stuff. Makes debating more exciting, don't ya think?

NO I HATE YOU!!!! *stops joking around*

No seriously, I think there is a chance for both generations to have reps. Gen 3 was just ancient when Brawl came around. If Smash Bros. 4 came out in Gen 6, Gen 5 would still be fresh in our heads like Gen 4 is now (probably a little fresher than Gen 4 is now, actually).

When it's all said and done Gen 5 and 6 with both sell about 40 million units of games apiece. That's more than the entire Donkey Kong franchise if you take away the units given away with purchases of a Super Nintendo.

Trust me, that's more important to Nintendo than any "space animals," especially since that game will probably sell 1.5 million at the most.

Gen 3 probably didn't get a rep because it sold the least, and because it was ancient (it came out in 2002; Brawl came out in 2008).
Well, I understand where you are coming from and you do raise up a good point concerning Pokemon sales having "value" to Nintendo, the thing is though is that while sales do indeed play a big role in determing a franchise inclusion, they don't necessarly determine the exact chances of a said character, popularity and demand plus Sakurai's interest also play a part, if the Pokemon company do indeed want to have 2 of their latest reps for "advertisement" purposes then sure, however if Sakurai deems a certain number of character slots (say 5) then do you suppose other reps like Mewtwo or Lucario who are both demanded and popular even be considered if a 5th and 6th Pokemon got in?

You know, who's to say Sakurai won't do this: Alter the lineup so that there's one Pokemon representing each generation.

A Gen 5 Pokemon isn't guaranteed. It's very likely to happen, of course, but it's not the empirical truth.

The only guaranteed things about the roster is that one: most of the vets, especially 64/Melee vets, are returning, and that the roster will be more than Brawl's.

:phone:
Agreed, even though a possible 6th gen is possible, I see it as unlikely if a movie does come out far into Smash 4 development, even then I wouldn't expect 2 reps from the most relevant series.

Zoroark and Zero

-It shows a dark, dreary forest. With Zoroark and Zorua sleeping together.
-An explosion awakens both of them, and a giant ship is seen in the sky.
-The camera zooms into the captain, Bowser.
-Zoroark snarls, and stands on all four and yells at the ship.
-She then waves Zorua to go hide.
-Play as Zoroark in Brawlion Woods, facing off Goombas, Koopas, and Bullet Bills.
-Zoroark sees an opening towards getting on the ship, which is a cliff that the ship nears.
-She jumps to it and leaps on deck, ready for battle- yelling battle cries.
-An explosion on deck happens, and Zero appears.
-The camera shows Zoroark staring at him, then Zero staring at her.
-They nod, and then they dash to the hole that Zero made.
-1st Player: Zoroark. 2nd Player: Zero. Go through the Ship's interior, facing the sames enemies, except Dry Bones and Dry Goomba appear as well.
-It shows Bowser, watching the cameras that are catching what is happening below him.
-Play as Zoroark and Zero and go through the Interior Ship 2.
-Bowser sees that they are getting closer, then the cameras stop working.
-He pounds the ground, and then an explosion happens behind him.
-He looks at his hand in shock, thinking he did it, until Zero pokes his laser sword at his shell.
-He brings his hands up, having shocked eyes. Zoroark comes closer and sees the action.
-Bowser, then squints his eyes, then pounds the button next to him, executing a safety escape, and goes downwards.
-Zero returns his sword, and looks at Zoroark.
-Zoroark then hears her child crying. The baby is on board!
-Credits..?

Normal or Harder...

-Zoroark roars loudly, and rushes inside where Bowser retreated.
-Zero then nods, and follows suit.
-Play as Zoroark and Zero and go through the Front Interior.
-Bowser, going towards the cage with Zorua inside, taps on the cage, smiling.
-A Koopa Troopa then walks to Bowser, and kicks his shell.
-Bowser, in shock as well as anger, kicks the Troopa back, but misses because it jumps upwards to dodge.
-The Koopa Troopa fades to purple specs, and Zoroark appears.
-Bowser, in shock, hits another button, opening a giant door.
-Zero follows, but sees an enemy come out of it, and it was menecing.
-The creature Roared, beating the ground.
-The creature resembled a giant Lucario, but walked on four, and had 2 giant cannons on his back.
-Zoroark's eyes glow, and she roars back, getting on her hide legs, ready for battle.
-BOSS BATTLE ULTRA! VS MECHARIO!
-The boss falls on Bowser, and Bowser gets instant trophification out of the such.
-The cage is slashed open by Zero, and the baby Zorua comes out, running to mama Zoroark.
-Zoroark hugs it, calming it.
-Zero notices that there is another trophy inside the rubble, which happens to be Lucario!
-Zero releases him, and Lucario opens his eyes, and looks at Zero.
-Zero smiles, but then he sees Lucario isn't happy to see him.
-The Camera then zooms in on Lucario, then he attacks Zero without warning. But the question is why?
-Credits!

I'm actually not arguing sales. I'm actually arguing that Pokémon is the most addicting Nintendo franchise (I'm leaving smash out of the debate for now), therefore Nintendo should put in new Pokémon in each Smash Bros. games (since Smash is probably the 2nd most addicting; they go hand in hand).

Plus c'mon- what will Nintendo make off Star Fox games now? I still see Fire Red and Leaf Green sell for $35, while Star Fox 64 3D will probably sell for $35 by Christmas. And on top of that, most people will put down Star Fox 64 3D before they put in a hundred hours. I've put in over 200 hours in each Generation, and over 200 hours into each remake generation.

You do have a point there. Probably exactly why Deoxys got the shaft in favor of Lucario...

Didn't realize Gen 3 came out in 2002. I thought it was '04.

^ LOL at the Star Fox 64 3D bit.

Well I have no idea about what we're talking about. It seems to be about Pokemon, but I don't think it's leading anywhere.

@asage: I doubt Zero will get in, although having him fight Spoon Mewtwo would be awesome. ;)

Well, it could be possible, but I don't think so, that means only Pikachu would get in since it's the obvious 1st gen to go with, which woukd mean no Jiggs and no Mewtwo, imagine that, it would be dissapointing, but on the other hand we could very well see a 2nd and 3rd gen which seem to be lacking, unless Pichu got brought back then only a 3rd gen is all that's really needed since Lucario happens to be from the 4th gen already.

I'm still disapointed that we didn't get any Gen 3 playable reps.(no, Pokemon Trainer doesn't count since you're playing as Gen 1 characters.)

Remember, ---, these are just ideas. After a couple of months, there will probably be two quests for the same character, and votes WILL be made.

It came out in 03 in America, which is still 5 years before Brawl. That's a long time to forget things, which is why it is Ancient History.

Again, I love Generation 3 (more than Generation 4, definitely), but it was too old to get a representative in Brawl (hindsight) since Nintendo was done with it by 2006.

By Smash Bros. 4 Nintendo will probably be at the end of Generation 5 or near the end, so it will definitely still have a lot of relevance.

Yep, it's Pokemon talk, AGAIN! :awesome:
This, lol.

Plus Pokémon always leads to hypothetical questions, since that's all it is with new potential newcomers. We got one of 100 something creatures that might make it, or up to 300 if Gen 6 comes out by Smash 4.

The Metroid, Paper Mario, and Donkey Kong franchise-based arguments usually comes down to facts vs. ideas.

O.K. well looking at it so far I think we're getting a head of ourselves talking about a 6th Gen Pokemon.

Anyway can we just agree on 6 slots like normal and move on? ;)

I'm gonna be judged in the apocalypse in a few weeks according to some crazy Oakland pastor. Maybe he predicted Al Davis' death! o.o

But yeah, we're generally gonna be fairly accurate with new stuff, with a few exceptions. I only missed Snake, the PT, and ROB. Other than that, I guessed everyone else who made it in Brawl out of 46.

@ ---
I don't agree on 6 (we already got 6). I think we'll get 8 or 9, or "6 or 7" conventional slots. I think you meant "conventional" slots since you are counting PT as 1 instead of 3.

Here's my preferred representatives by Generation:
Generation 1: The current 5 reps (Pikachu, Jiggz, the PT's 3 Pokérmanz) plus Mewtwo returning.
Generation 2: Pichu made into a hit or miss character that is unlike Pikachu.
Generation 3: Plusle and Minun as an awesome duo. Make sure they aren't like Pikachu or Pichu.
Generation 4: Lucario the way he is, maybe with a few new tricks.
Generation 5: Zoroark with a ton of dark moves that are either strong and slow or weak and fast.
Generation 6: The Orange one. That or the troll answer.

Yeah man, I must admit when it comes to debating Pokemon, it seems like an endless one due to many choices and over 600+ plus Pokemon to choose from, even more with Pokemon Trainer involved who carries 3 with him.

I can see 6 Pokemon characters in the next Smash. I just can't say who, exactly, but...

@asage
The only way I'd consider Sakurai "trolling" us is if he did something REALLY bad.

Nah, 8. Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Pokemon Trainer, Pichu, Gen 3, Lucario, Gen 5.

And 9 if we count Gen 6. Also, this isn't counting PT as 4 overall characters. Of course, if PT uses 3rd Gen characters, that's one less slot to worry about. And let's not have Mewtwo and Lucario back, meaning a Gen 5 arrives. That's four slots on the screen. And 5 with a Gen 6 Pokemon.

I just hope that they don't do something stupid like skip Gen 5. I'm sorry, but skipping Gen 3 for more Gen 1 pokemon was a bad idea.

^ Tripping. Meta Knight. Pichu. Really crappy online. U Mad?

@asage I feel like I'm one of the few who truly likes Stunfisk xD

Then again, I tend to like under appreciated Pokemon...my favorite happens to be Qwilfish...

But anyway, I hope that the popular Pokemon choices for SSB4 at least make it in as Poke Balls if not playable...

Stunfish is how I farm some of my EPs in Black (because white is for racists). :awesome:

Seriously though, I kinda like it. It could make a unique Pokéball Pokémon, or some sort of common enemy in story mode.

I'm just sayin' 2 new Pokémon reps (1 for Gen 5, 1 for Gen 6) is possible.

And that Pokémon = long hours for years (I still play all my Pokémon games from time to time).
Star Fox = forgetting about the game after a year that isn't Star Fox 64 (I play it on occasion).

Yeah man, I must admit when it comes to debating Pokemon, it seems like an endless one due to many choices and over 600+ plus Pokemon to choose from, even more with Pokemon Trainer involved who carries 3 with him.

I agree to a six slot situation. The gens I would rep if I could decide the roster:

Generation 1: Pikachu and Mewtwo
Generation 2: Ethan (Pokemon Trainer with Totodile, Bayleef, and Typhlosion)
Generation 3: Deoxys
Generation 4: Lucario
Generation 5: Victini

@asage94: No he's not.

Hey. Those are my choices, too. Except Meowth's missing from yours.

Honestly, through gen 4 would be enough for me.
