Smash Journeyman
might be helpful to rename some of the most active threads (advanced tech thread, tier list thread) to fit high volume keyword searches

I would buy Smashboards from MLG if I could...Would be cool for sure but this was already tried once with AllIsBrawl (when this website was even LESS functional no less) and it failed because not enough people migrated then the community that did migrate sort of seemed to attract less high-placing players and more random players.
So... something tells me it would be a very painful migration even if it were successful. I'm sure there are ways the communities can work towards this, however.
Something is already in the worksHey, I just found this thread as I was searching for SEO references to 8WAYRUN...
In case you guys don't know, last month I announced the upcoming formation of the 8WAYRUN Network. What I announced is that I want to expand 8WAYRUN to more than just Soulcalibur, but to other games as well. Turn it into a network of gaming forums. If the Smash community were to show interest in this, I would be more than happy to oblige you guys.
Now I tried to expand into other fighting games in the past. I created a website called "Astral Heat" for BlazBlue. At the time, the Soulcalibur community was getting into BB, and we all universally felt the community at DustLoop was too unwelcoming to new players. Unfortunately, that community was so unwelcoming that they pretty much drove us out...
So I will not attempt to make a new website when an existing community already exists, without a CLEAR AND POSITIVE interest from the community.
says objectively top 10 worst postersalso the mods are ****ty. no more mods imo
As if MLG even cares about smashboards anymore anyway... I bet you actually could buy it if they really see no value in keeping it anymore (given their lack of care in the last year). =\I would buy Smashboards from MLG if I could...
You misheard us, it was us talking about rarely checking the boards for smash fests/tournaments, etc. and facebook being used as a better and easier tool to find out about events. This is funny timing because Cactuar, Prog, Sheridan (Hyuga), and Scar were just talking about moving away from SmashBoards on their new Melee It On Me podcast.
I agree with this post 100%.IMO we need the site redone to be more like 8wayrun so things are easily found for information.
I will say this from EXP
separating things will make it a lot worst. DOA has 4 sites...FOUR (Official site, FSD, and 2 random ones made by heads of community) cause people could not get along and people wanted different things.
If you want to really help the community get this site AWAY from MLG. That is the problem. MLG has stopped the Admins from changing and updating the site SEVERAL times and has not helped the community in one bit since it left MLG in 2009.
Remove them and that is the main problem.
The question then becomes who will take on the "job" (so to speak) to get MLG removed from the equation?IMO we need the site redone to be more like 8wayrun so things are easily found for information.

This is actually a good idea.It would be hard to get everyone on to a new forum, I don't really see it being successful.
But what I do think would be really helpful is a big well arranged website, that features info, guides, tournament listings and recent news about competitive Smash. Because all that stuff cluttered into a message board that is filled with so much random stuff isn't optimal.
Obviously we need a site called "Super Smash Brothers MELEE tricks" for our friend billy. But he won't, which is the point, because if you Google "super smash bros melee tricks", SmashBoards isn't anywhere to be found in the first TEN PAGES of results.
What do you mean by "Premium Member"?Well if you look at the way we have 8WAYRUN...
We have a news section (with subcategories):
http://calibur.8wayrun.com/
We have an event calendar (with built in streaming):
http://calibur.8wayrun.com/events/weekly
With have a full featured tournament ranking system:
http://calibur.8wayrun.com/rankings/
We have a media library:
http://calibur.8wayrun.com/media/
We have a wiki:
http://calibur.8wayrun.com/wiki/index/
And of course, we have a chatroom... which helps stave off a lot of the "random" chatter:

Premium members also have the ability to "downvote" threads so that they automatically get locked. We also have a comprehensive anti-spam system written by me.
All of these are in ADDITION to the forums, and are pieces of software WRITTEN BY ME.
$20... and a single person can't lock a thread by themselves. Right now, on 8WR, which isn't that active, I require 5 down-votes within a 1 week period to lock a thread. So a person would be required to spend $100 to single-handedly lock a thread... and a moderator can easily unlock a thread. What do you mean by "Premium Member"?
Is that like a moderator, or can little Billy decide to pay $10 to become a premium member and lock all the Mega Night ban threads?
Ah, okay. Hopefully Little Billy isn't a Billyonaire$20... and a single person can't lock a thread by themselves. Of course, I can always change the settings based on the activity of the forums. On a more active forum, I may set it to 20 down-votes within 3 days.
^This would be a good thing for us, imo.I wonder if we'll become buddy sites with 8WR considering how good they've been to our community.
God forbid a year ago when you guys didn't even have ANY quality streams that I only bring you 30fps!No offense to 8WR cause they could be a good partner for us, but what have they done for our community? Only thing I know about is Apex's stream (which honestly was pretty lame because of the 30 fps but that's beside the point).
Bones, have you ever considered posting more selectively? No offense to 8WR cause they could be a good partner for us, but what have they done for our community? Only thing I know about is Apex's stream (which honestly was pretty lame because of the 30 fps but that's beside the point).
