G & W doesn't need to be replaced. All non clones are comin' back. Stafy will be awesome. Along with Captain Olimar, I'm positive he'll be in.
That's not a guarantee.

Although, there really is no reason to remove G&W in the first place, as his series is 99.99& likely to be repped in Brawl.

Stafy is a "he", not a "she". If he was a "she", then he would be pink and wear a dark, pink bow on his head, just like his sister, Stapy.

I put a lot of effort into this one. I took some little tidbits from the first post.

Gliding. Yes, Stafy can glide in his games while he is out of the water. It works exactly like gliding in Brawl. It's better to watch a video of Stafy gameplay to see it in action.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/MiKL/StafyGliding.jpg

Now for the actual fighting stuff.

A,A,A. Punch, Punch, Kick. Simple stuff here.

FTilt. Stafy leans his head in for a weak headbutt.

UTilt. Stafy puts his arms up.

DTilt. Stafy kinda flops over onto the ground for a sweeping attack with the top of his head. Knocks opponent up in the air for comboing.

Nair. Justs does a 360 like Kirby's.

Fair. Karate kick starfish style.

Bair. Sticks body out horizontally and kicks with two back feet.

Uair. Simple poke with the spike at the top of his head.

Dair. Belly flop. Can spike if you get the opponent directly under his belly.

Forward Smash. Stafy charges his kick and then smashes his foot out. A small explosive cloud comes out, causing good range for a smash attack.

Up Smash. Stafy crouches down to charge, then rams his head upward with his top spike protruding like an arrow.

Down Smash. Stafy slams his head into the ground, causing short invisible shockwaves that give the attack some range.

Now for the special moves.

B: Spinning Star. Press B and Stafy will do his trademark spin. You can repeatedly press B to spin faster and longer. You can move around while spinning too. Has reasonable range and pretty good knockback, but if you spin too fast / too long, Stafy will become dizzy and uncontrollable for a short while (like his shield broke). Stafy's dizzy animation is also his animation for the shield break.

and this is a good flash that shows Stafy's attack in motion. Advised.
http://wolf4knowledge.deviantart.com/art/Stafy-s-Spin-Attack-33478185

Forward B: Shooting Star. Stafy points his head sideways and twirls forward. This move isn't extremely fast, but goes a pretty far distance. You can slightly angle the direction you are going in. And there is one more thing. While you are doing a Shooting Star, if you press B you can do a Whirling Star, which is basically combining both the Spinning and Shooting Stars. This gives the move more knockback and speed. Once again, if you press B too many times Stafy will become dizzy and unable to move.

Up B: Kyorosuke Spin. This was the only attack I couldn't get a sprite of. In Stafy's newer game for the DS (Legend of Stafy 4), he teams up with his clam buddy and they both spin rapidly diagonally upwards. This move has some great distance, but it is quite hard to control. It also doesn't do much damage or knockback, but you can trap people in it.
Here is a video that shows the Kyorosuke Spin. Just watch through the whole thing and you should see it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_TbByTgbTE

Down B: Falling Star. This move is very fast and plummets straight down. Stafy is practically invincible while plummeting downward. He will go straight through any breakables without stopping. It has a much smaller range than other plummeting moves such as Bowser's and Yoshi's, but it does much more damage and knockback if it connects with the target. You can flip out of the move on the way down, much like Dedede's can flip out of his Up B on the way up. You can grab the edge while in this move.

Throws.

Grab. Stafy just lunges his one arm forward and graps the opponent like Kirby.

Grab Attack. Stafy simply slaps the opponent across the face.

Forward throw. A quick kick into the gut that sends the foe forward and into the air a bit. Somewhat weak, but sets up combos.

Back throw. Does a quick Spinning Star once and lets go backwards. Strong horizontal distance.

Up throw. Simple one hand toss upward while Stafy puts his back to the screen. Strong vertical distance.

Down throw. Slams enemy onto the ground and sits on them. Very cute move. Sets up combos and potential chain grabs.

Miscellaneous stuff. Here are some other, less important things that a character needs to have in Smash Bros.

Stafy getting hit by the opponent lightly.

Stafy getting hit by the opponent hard.

Stafy falling on his face.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/MiKL/StafyFallOnFront.jpg

Stafy sleeping.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/MiKL/StafyAsleep.jpg

Stafy's taunt.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/MiKL/StafyTaunt.gif

Stafy's Final Smash.
This isn't too important to come up with, seeing how most FSs are completely random and unrelated to the series. It could involve all of Stafy's underwater allies or something.

Stats:

Running Speed: A- (Fast)
Weight: C- (Light)
Recovery: A- (Good)
Floaty-ness: B- (Pretty floaty)
Traction: D (Very low)
Power: D+ (Low)
Priority: B+ (Above average)
Air Maneuverability: A (Very good)
Ground Maneuverability: B (Average)
Shield Size: B (Average)
Grabbing Range: B+ (Above average)
Learning Curve: C (Somewhat hard)

Stafy is a very speedy lightweight character. He has a very solid recovery with two jumps, a decent Up B, a long ranged Over B, and gliding abilities. What mainly separates Stafy from the rest of the competition is his very low traction. Stafy slides all over the place. He's not used to the dry land yet. This lack of traction helps him maneuver around the whole level swiftly with great control. This can work against Stafy too, however. He can easily miss his target and keep sliding, without being able to turn around right away for another attack. Stafy also doesn't have too many hard hitting moves that deal out a lot of damage. He makes up for it with great priority and comboing abilities. His down throw and forward throw offer great openings while being somewhat difficult to DI out of. He does have some power moves though. He can get kills with his Up Smash, Bair, and Back throw at pretty decent percentages, but still slightly higher. His Forward Smash also has potential to kill if the opponent is caught right in the middle of the cloud. If you were to compare Stafy to a character, it would probably be Jigglypuff. Stafy is now Jigglypuff's rival when it comes to aerial control. Stafy also lacks projectiles and long ranged attacks. He seems like he would be a weak, unusable character, but under his massive cuteness lies a great threat to the other fighters. Stafy is not one to be underestimated.

Alt colors / costumes:

Regular: Regular character design. DS model. Modern Legend of Stafy 4 look. This is the default.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/MiKL/StafySmall.jpg

Classic: This is just a slightly lighter, more orange model. This is his look from the 3 GBA games.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/MiKL/StafySmallLight.jpg

Stapy: Stapy is Stafy's sister. It is a simple color swap to pink with the addition of a little bow and more circular cheeks. Stapy could be an AT instead, but Diddy has a Dixie-esque costume, so why can't Stafy have a Stapy-esque costume?
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/MiKL/StafySmallStapy.jpg

Other alts are just regular color swaps (Red, Blue, Green, Black).

Other info:

Stafy gets KO'd around Peach percentages.

Stafy can speak, but is often portrayed as being able to only say "Fee!" in the television commercials. He doesn't speak in his games.

In commercials, Stafy is voiced by Satomi Korogi and sounds very similar to the two pokemon Pichu and Togepi. This would make voice acting for Stafy in Smash Bros very easy.

Stafy is pretty much always happy. He even looks humorous when getting beat up.

While Stafy does have limited range, he does somewhat make up for it by having a few attacks that have a larger range then expected. His FSmash and DSmash are perfect examples. What looks to be a small ranged kick ends up with a large explosive cloud, and what looks to be a simple head smash into the ground creates a shockwave similar to DK's Down B. It gives Stafy a bit of a surprise element.

Stafy's character entrance / on-screen appearance is him falling from the sky and crashing. He does this at the start of every Stafy game.

Stafy has the ability to swim much better than other characters (except Squirtle maybe). This helps in levels like Delfino where there is water below the platforms. He can't swim forever (that would be extremely cheap), but he can swim a bit longer and faster before sinking to the bottom.

Kirby gets a little star point on his head and more circular eyes when he swallows Stafy.

Stafy's icon is somewhat hard to come up with, seeing how the star symbol is already taken by Kirby. They could probably just use the name of the Legend of Stafy series as the icon like so.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/MiKL/StafyLogo.png
Or they could have a star coin symbol or something.

There it is. I hope you like it.

(Note: I couldn't show every image, due to the 29 image limit. I kept some of the less important stuff in the urls)

Pretty interesting. Some of them might be better. Stafy's symbol would probably be one of them pearls that have stars on them in the Stafy titles. They are like Mario's coins, but better. If you collect five small pearls or one large pearl, you'll recover one heart. Here is what they look like on the right side of this image:

Stafy's Final Smash would most likely be the coin move he did in the upper-right video on this web page. If heads, Stafy will damage all of his opponents. If tails, then Stafy will be damaged. If that's not any good, then he can use the fairy-like creature next to the coin video on the same page, which would heal Stafy slowly, but not too slow.

I believe Stafy's costumes would most likely be the ones he used in the Stafy titles.

I doubt he would get those costumes. So far there are only really simple costume changes and basic color swaps in Brawl. But that would be pretty cool.

Some of Stafy's other moves would probably be related to these:

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/astj/ride/index.html

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/b3dj/norimono/index.html

AND/OR

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/a4dj/norimono/index.html

And if anyone wants to play something Stafy-related that isn't one of the four Stafy titles, then this fan game might entertain you, but it's pretty difficult. The object of the game is to support Kyorosuke in swimming as far as possible, while collecting Stafys and Stapys, while avoiding as much "afro-octopuses" and Oguras as possible. If Stapy appears, click on her to recover +50 HPs. Each Stafy will give you +10 HPs, each "afro-octopus" will cost you -5 HPs, and each Ogura will cost you -50 HPs. Hold down the left mouse button to move faster.

I doubt he would get those costumes. So far there are only really simple costume changes and basic color swaps in Brawl. But that would be pretty cool.
Pikachu wore some similar costumes in SSBM.

Setting you up the bomb.
Hey parrothead, who do you honestly think has the best chance as far as Japan-exclusive characters are concerned. I think that it is indeed Stafy, what with 4 games and somewhat of a pop-culture status, but several others think that it's Takamaru or Skapon, despite both being AWOL since their games' initial releases.

I believe that Takamaru, Stafy, Skapon and DeMille are the Japan-Only characters that have the best chances at appearing in SSBB, in my opinion. Most likely, not every one of them will enter, but at least one of these four will appear.

DeMille is popular, but not very popular, making his chance at appearing in SSBB smaller. However, if Chihiro Fujioka (producer of Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy Legend III and several AlphaDream titles) and Square-Enix don't want Sakurai to add Geno into SSBB as anything, then Chihiro Fujioka might let Sakurai use DeMille from Tomato Adventure instead, because |1.| DeMille was mentioned twice in Sakurai's SSBB poll, |2.| Tomato Adventure is the only Nintendo-published title produced by Chihiro Fujioka that isn't a Hamtaro or Mario title, and |3.| DeMille has a large amount of moves for Sakurai to choose from, including some that look similar to the Final Smash moves.

Just because Geno appeared in M&L: SS, doesn't mean he'll enter SSBB. He was added as a reference to Chihiro Fujioka and his works (including M&L: SS and its sequel), just like one of the costumes of Jill in Drill Dozer being a reference to Pulseman. I understand that Geno is one of the most-wanted characters for SSBB, as well as one of the most popular Mario characters, but here are some things that will decrease his chance at entering SSBB:

* He is 3RD-Party (duh!). Even though Sonic, Solid Snake and some of their friends and foes are in SSBB, I assume that Sakurai will only let SSBB represent two 3RD-Party franchises. Of course Geno is more than a 3RD-Party character, which he is also a Mario character, but read these next two things.
* He probably won't look good in SSBB without Mallow or any other original character from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

AND

* SSBB has enough Mario characters. There were four Mario characters in SSBB, excluding clones and characters that are more than Mario characters, which is perhaps the largest amount of SSB characters a franchise could get.

I'm neither a Geno fan nor an anti-Geno person or whatever, but these are my predictions.

Now for Stafy. He still has a chance at entering SSBB. Even though he wasn't mentioned, neither was Pokemon Trainer nor any of his three Pokemon. If popularity seriously means everything, then Stafy is a good choice.

If Sakurai adds Takamaru in SSBB, then that wouldn't complete the Famicom Disk System line-up, because there is also Donbe (and perhaps Hikari), the main character(s) of Nintendo's first text-based video game, Shin Oni Ga Shima, which became popular and was released again for the Famicom Mini series and the Virtual Console. Also, Donbe was mentioned in Sakurai's SSBB poll only once. When Donbe is young, he fights with a straight, y-shaped stick. When Donbe becomes older, he uses a katana. Donbe (and perhaps Hikari) are good choices, but their chances at entering as a playable character are quite slim, but they sure do have a good chance at appearing as an Assist Trophy.

Finally, for Skapon, he might not enter, because of Sakurai previously saying that Skapon will not appear in SSBM, and probably will not appear in the next SSB title (SSBB). However, fans of Skapon / Joy Mech Fight never gave up, and posted more Skapon requests in Sakurai's SSBB poll. Two of them appeared, which might make Sakurai say something like "Okay, but if I face a single major problem while developing him, I will not add him. However, I might add him as a regular Trophy."

I never knew that about sukapon. Yeah that's definitely good for stafy's chances. And stafy is the only one of those four that had multiple games unless I am mistaken. That also hightens his chances. alright! Stafy FTW!

I got the information about Sakurai not adding Skapon in SSBM and perhaps not in the next SSB title (SSBB) from an official SSBM page on the Japanese SSBM web site.

I'll be very surprised if Stafy does not become a playable character actually

Sakurai did say he wanted Kirby and stafy in a game together, and you have to like a character quite alot to want that I'd say.

Plus Stafy's game type is a game that does well outside japan (like Kirby games, Super mario bros ds)

I think it would sell like hotcakes in europe and America if stafy got the right advertising too. :)

Oh, you heard that? Haha, well, if you think about it, Kirby and Stafy WERE in a game together. Superstar Saga. As cameos. They were both posters in the Yoshi Theatre.

Doesn't prove much. Meh...

There is that site that Japanese site that requested Stafy (along with Lucario, the Black Knight, Ridley, Sukapon, etc.). I mean Lucas was there and now he's in. You never know.

Someone at the NinDB forum name SmashChu told me that the later Stafy titles didn't sell as well as the earlier ones, according to VGChartz, but it's hard for me to believe it, because they make me think they are estimations. They don't give the actual source, just like a Wikipedia article without any references linked to it. SmashChu believes that if they would of sold well enough, then they would of became more important to Nintendo than the ones that didn't sell as well. He dislikes me being obsessed with lesser-known (but unique) Nintendo titles. If neither Stafy, DeMille, Takamaru, Sukapon (pronounced "Skah-pon"), Donbe from Shin Onigashima, Mike from StarTropics 1 and 2, nor any of the two princes of For the Frog the Bell Tolls enters SSBB as a playable, then I'll have to quit my Nintendo business, because I am an adult, and my parents wish they would see me spend more time with them than Nintendo and the Internet. I will also look forward to learning more about taking care of myself. You can say "Don't go parrothead!" as much as you want, but many people have friends that come and go. If SmashChu or vesperview reads this, then they'll most likely laugh at it, but it won't bother me at all. I'm not into most popular stuff, because the more I see them from people's sigs to department stores to many other places inside and outside of the Internet, the more boring they become. Every time I see them, they kinda bother me while they make me feel guilty and look back at the obscure, but good things from the past.

Oh? I did not know you had a job at Nintendo. I would like to get one myself someday.

I share your liking for obscure characters. Especially for the little star prince himself! People don't pay much heed to those kinds of characters but they still think they know everything about gaming. That's why I'm very happy Pit is in Brawl---and I wouldn't have known about him AT ALL if my friend hadn't let me borrow his Nintendo Power books back in grade school (that's also how I got to know about Klonoa and Stafy too).

Obscure characters bring a sort of uniqueness to Brawl. I think it's pretty....cool! Don't worry, Parrot! We're all here for you!

(Though, the whole family thing is a bit suprising. How much time do you spend with them. Er...maybe that isn't my business...)

I don't work with Nintendo, but I support the Wikipedia articles about Nintendo's lesser-known titles, even with some information that might become forgotten. For example, in the Stunt Race FX article, I added some information about the promotional Stunt Race FX Hot Wheels car given out to those who bought a box of Apple Jacks and sent the rebate from the box to Nintendo of America. I even remember what the television commercial looked exactly like. There is no reference available for it on the Internet, because many people overlooked it along with the SNES title. It's something I remembered some time ago. I'm not making it up. It's true, but I don't have the video and there is no video of it nor a photo of the car itself on the Internet. I remember when I got one, but then I shouldn't of taken it out of the plastic wrapper and scratch it all up. It later got stoled by someone in middle school. It is one of the rarest Hot-Wheels collectables, as well as one of the rarest-Nintendo collectables.

Wow, I never knew someone could love Nintendo that much. You SHOULD try and get a job at Nintendo of America, you'd be big in no time.

if u were making brawl u would have the entire game filled with forgotten crap
Then you wouldn't want the game, you wouldn't be on the boards, and we wouldn't have to see your "EPIC FAIL!" spam posts and other crap.

No I wouldn't. I would add my two most favorite characters, then fill up the rest of the roster with as many popular characters as possible.

And the characters I'm talking about aren't bullcrap. Why don't you call the games that the Happy Video Game Nerd reviewed, bullcrap? They aren't bullcrap either. What's bullcrap are the ones that the Angry Video Game Nerd reviewed. Do you think those are better than the ones I talked about?
