My HG/SS team sucks right now, because i have soul silver....

it'd be perfect if i had a heracross..... (typewise at least....)

for going through the game, i have (right now) Pidgeotto, Flaffy, Alakazam (my main sp. atk.-er for post elite4 as well (does anybody know an easy way of getting those EV lowering berries?!?!?)), Quilava and Feraligatr..... my team sucks because i can't find/catch any pokemon to fill the holes in my team. i want scyther for post elite4 play to replace my pidgeotto/pidgeot for the flying type (teach either wing attack or something else better before evolving into scizor)..... Flaffy will either be replaced by jolteon (which would force me to move around my sp atk stuff....) or Tyranitar (which would be absolutely great).... or maybe zapdos and just forget about tying in the needless flying attack on scyther/scizor..... (is zapdos uber or ou? I never look at the lists....) all G2 starters will either be switched out for G3, 4 or 1, because G2 starters suck so much..... maybe only like..... infernape for the dual/physical sweeper and stealth rock) alakazam = keep.... blissey and/or someone others for walls.... suicune = win.... XD.....

i got off on a rant.....

but right now, my SS team sucks so much.... I would start over if it weren't for the fact that i wasted too much time on it.... no good (yet easy to acquire) pokemon for early on in the game.... I = :(..... And i had an onix, but i couldn't train it..... plus, WHERE WILL I GET 2 METAL COATS?!?!?!? I ALREADY USED ALL MY OTHER ONES FOR SCIZOR ON OTHER GAMES!!!!
I have an extra Scyther with Wing Attack. Its ability is Swarm, not Technician though... You want it? It's yours, my friend, as long as you have enough Rubies

I could breed you a Chimchar, Heracross, or Skarmony if you're interested too. I also have an extra Happiny (with Serence Grace).

Zapdos is OU currently.

Probably made the right choice (even though Scizor gets rocked by Fire). I'm not an expert about competitive Pokemon but as far as I could tell Steelix didn't have as good a moveset as Scizor. Didn't even learn Iron Tail in the original Gold/Silver if I remember correctly. :/

Still one of my favorite Pokemon, though.
Yeah, Scizor is like one of the best Pokemon in standard play. And it's still used sometimes in Ubers. Steelix is still decent though; it has lots of resists, ridiculous defense, and Stealth Rock, Explosion, and Roar. It's pretty strong in UU. I myself am supremely biased towards Arcanine. Ninetails ain't got crap on Arcanine. :p

If anyone wants any Stones (Leaf, Thunder, etc., except for Oval) I can give them to you. I hear they're annoying to get in HG/SS. I still have a bunch from Pearl.

Play mother 3/play mother 3 again.

It'll be awesome.

Also, if you're still down about pokemon, you can name the mother characters after various pokemon.

Personally, I'd have lucas be farfetched, kuma be kirlia or something, duster would be hitmonlee, and boney sucks.

SEMI-competitive pokemon.... Never actually did a tournament (don't have time to waste on training)

I feel like I made a really good shoddy battle team, but i never tested it out.

I know the aspects of competitive pkmn, but haven't played it as such.

Pretty much this. I'm the type of person that, once he knows all about a game, he feels he's "mastered" it and feels no need to play it anymore.

I got what I wanted out of my 1337 post count (the 1337th post in the Illinois thread), so now I shall move on with this post. :)

SSB64 is awesome and you all should play it with me.
Way ahead of you, I'm the best 64 player in Illinois. My Brawl menu music is also the 64 menu music.

All the zero-deaths and general lack of options, characters, stages and maneuverability in SSB64 turns me off. Still a good game though.

Who do you play in 64 DayJay? Ness?

Ness, Fox, Captain Falcon.

I'll take the zero-deaths and general lack of options over the HIGHLY defensive gameplay of Brawl anyday. It's impossible to get timed out in 64 literally because there is no timer option for stock matches, but even if the option was there I doubt there'd be much time outs going on at top play.

Just youtube "Isai" and "ssb64" and you'll get awesome results that are far better than any Brawl match. 64 is almost as amazing as Melee.

I like SSB64, its nice to not have to follow the rules that people on my friend list on brawl want, same goes for melee, I have more freedom, but it gets boring fighting CPU's you see my endless loop here? :p

Cool, I like to play Ness and Mario.

I agree that SSB64 is a better competitive game, I wasn't defending it. I've seen Isai's SSB64 videos (who hasn't, he's a god), but the game just doesn't jive with me. For one thing, I just find the controls... not very fluid. With all the shield stun, the ridiculously fast dashing and canceling your momentum immediately with a shield, every aerial comes out SO fast... it's really jerky, if that makes any sense, and it makes the game feel unresponsive and annoying to me.

I just think that Melee expanded on SSB64 in SO many areas that it made 64 bland by comparison. For example

Air dodging
Spot dodging
Wavedashing
Uthrow/dthrow
Pummel
Powershielding
Side B
Wall/Tech jumping
Less ridiculous L-canceling
Phantom hits (lawl)
The movesets of the characters are more individualized in general (lol at how everyone in 64 has the same nair except DK)

At the same time, it kept 64's aggressive style while giving you some actually usable C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER options so not every single successful hit ends the stock.

tl;dr I like how Melee offers not overpowered yet usable defensive options as well as tons of other features that make the game deeper, yet the game is still fast, exciting and offense-based like SSB64. I still like SSB64.

You can play SSB64 online... or is that what you were saying and I failed reading comprehension?

DK and Ness are the only ones who had a nair where they didn't just stick their foot out (Ness sticks both his feet out in front and back of him, so he has have the coolest nair in the game. DK's is exactly the same as it always has, he just spins.)

Since I started off playing 64 (I mean I literally got into Smash because I played 64 a lot and 64 online, not because I played it a couple times when I was 10 when it first came out (which I did :p)) the controls and how everyone moves doesn't feel foreign to me at all.

Melee is the superior of all the Smash games. Melee has the adrenaline-pumping speed, the amazing awesome combos, wavedashing/laning, moonwalking, Melee Captain Falcon, etc., etc. Sakurai really went down the wrong path when making Brawl, wtf was he thinking? People played Melee for 7 years and even today because it was excellent, so why the hell would you change it?! /melee rant

64 I think barely falls short of Melee, only because even I admit it's a bit outdated. I do wish a lot of the newer Smash features that you listed were in 64. But it's still extremely fun to play and focuses more on an offensive playstyles, which I'm sure most people can agree is a ton more fun than Brawl's defensive/turtling playstyles.

I started playing the Smash series since like the year 64 came out, and haven't stopped since... if anything 64 should feel the most natural. I know, it's subjective... but it still annoys me. I wish it didn't.

Isn't there some sort of Brawl hack going on right now to replicate Smash 64? I thought I saw one like that. I know there's Project M for Melee...

AMEN

Honestly who knows what Sakurai was thinking. Maybe he was deliberately trying to lower the skill ceiling, maybe he didn't even consider or care that it would make for a worse game competitively. What annoys me more is that Nintendo won't put out a 1.1 patch of some sort to fix glaringly obvious match-defining BS glitches/problems (certain infinites, triple jump glitch, Ness dsmash not connecting with both hits, fall through the stage glitch, and it would be nice if it could KICK PEOPLE OFF WIFI THAT HAVE BEEN IDLING FOR AN HOUR :mad::mad: etc). You don't download the patch, you don't play online. Simple, no conflicts playing online, easy to check what version your game is. Of course then they would remove things like DACUS and zap jumping because they hate anything too complicated for grandma to figure out. We hardcore gamers just can't win with Nintendo ever since the Wii came out, can we?

and yes, imad.

I think it's safe to say that the Smash series is/was a learning exp. for Sakurai. Every game was different based on the console they were on imo. SSB64 was good but how much better do you think it couldve been on a N64? Melee was a huge increase of both metagame and in game effects that blew us all out of the water not just because the game was fun and spectacular. It was such an improvement from N64 in such a short time span. It showed the difference between N64 and Cube. Brawl was nerfed I believe because of the wii system in a whole. The wiimote was/is something the company was trying to promote.(Like Nintendo usually does w/ their new equipment) They expected people would also want to use the GC controller. But they really wanted to increase wii mote sells and usage all around. Nintendo wanted to show off how smooth the wii mote was. So i think it's safe to say the games speed and metagame was nerfed because they didn't want GCC users having a advantage over wii mote users

Yeah!! That sounds like a good idea~!

And I just started playing on Shoddy for a bit. XD; I'm still kind of new! Maybe like Leviatas (sp. Sorries!! >.<) I know some things, but really good players would own me. XP;

@Popsicle, Why do you have to wait until summer?? That's too bad! Good thing summer is just right around the corner, though!

/I'm sorry to interrupt the Smash convo going on.. >.<;

Sakura came out and said himself he did not want Brawl to be a competitive fighting game. So yeah a lot of things were taken out on purpose. Was shooting for more of a family/everybody has fun type game. It's terrible i know.....

Just making sure. XD

And yeah, I wish Nintendo would at the very least update wifi. Not only do the servers suck, but the entire wifi system sucks. I really wish they'd fix Basic Brawl. It could've been a great way to make friends without the need for going to a Smash website.
Make the option to face someone 1v1, 2v2 (with TA options), or FFA, be able to see the tags of your oppenent's profile on the character select screen (the tag you see like in a friend match now), be able to add people to your friends list from these modes (you actually register these people if you didn't notice) like you can if you add the host of a 2v2 and unknown people to your friend list join the host's game, be able to see how your connection is between these people (connection dot could be next to their tag on the character select screen), being able to see tags/taunt messages in game, etc.

Nintendo really f***ed up with wifi, it has so much potential. Their lack of dedication with their online stsyem really stumps me, because honestly online play is a HUGE part in gaming now and Nintendo is going to eventually lose loyal customers because it has a s***ty online experience. No casual player (their targeted audience nowadays) will put up with Nintendo's online for long before moving on to the far superior online experiences of the 360, PS3, and PC.

Really it makes no sense at all. Mario Kart Wii and Super Strikers both run flawlessly online. They even got leader-boards and things of the sort. Brawl did not get leader-boards due to the " appealing to everyone" and did not want to put people off and get " intimidated" sooooooooooo stupid i know.

They really did drop the ball on it, but nothing we can do now. There might be another smash game on the Wii2 or whatever it is that nintendo shells out

Ugh, it really just pisses me off the amount of potential my favorite console game's online capability could've had...

I'm a big online player. And for Smash to finally have online play, but to be extremely s***ty just gets to me.

I think the main reason why Brawls WiFi is bad is cause it was the first game for Wii to have it so when the other games came along they fix any problems then again I think is just the fighting games that have problems since Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom is really laggy at least for me it is XP

A lot of people agree TvC is laggy. Nintendo really can't get online gaming right, especially for the really popular games like Smash Bros. If they don't clean up their act I can see Nintendo going down the Sega road.

Nintendo is just holding on because they possess some amazing people, like the amazingly talented Shigeru Miyamoto. Hoping the guy does some work with the upcoming Nintendo launches of Metroid, LoZ, and SMG.
