I picked up fox in an odd way fiz, if you're bored and open to trying something different check it out... It takes a little getting used to, but pretty easy if you practice it. I use Z for all SH aerials, and any aerial that I plan on L-canceling for that matter. I L-cancel with z the majority of the time (fox 100% of the time) although I can do it with R as well. Being that you're l-canceling with Z, and also using Z for your aerial, it really facilitates l-canceling all of your aerials with fox(all you do is hit z twice). If I'm drilling or nairing into someone's shield, Z is a lot easier to spam as well to ensure that you never miss the l-cancel(by spam i mean hit 2-3 times..) If you get it down without lightshielding half the time, it works great for several techniques with fox. You can even just SH + downZ + Z + Z...which spaced properly = short hop drill + l-cancel + grab.

My fox is pretty newb though. I just do the basics and mindgame. And this wouldn't be much use to an experienced fox player... do whatever works for you, but using z to l-cancel then shining requires less work(less work, in this case i'm talking about less finger movement = doing anything faster and more efficient with practice), and Z is an actual button instead of a trigger... so learning the precision behind it is easier as well.......imo!

Just throwing that out there.. ya'll probably think i'm crazy.

Z for all those things isn't too bad but you simply will not be able to play fast enough eventually with all that action on one finger.

Cool scheme, though.

Ganon and Luigi are both mid tier...

I was thinking about playing a top tier as a tertiary, probably Marth, but my Sheik and Falco are getting better.. and I'll always play some Falcon haha.

I play a lot of chars actually and probably will never decide lol. I just love melee.

Yeah, I know you don't main a high tier.

I was talkin to PLUR. But I don't actually think IC's are overrated. In fact I don't think they've even been completely mastered yet.

I main Marth because he's incredibly gay.

I play Falco, Ganon, Mewtwo, Pichu, and Jigglypuff about equal amounts though.

Hmm.. I'd like to hear an example from you of when the action would be too much for that finger. I think it's all in the time you dedicate into it. I personally don't dedicate much time to it, however, it works for me somewhat because my fingers are impossible to be fatigued by.....uh anything. Beast calluses / finger muscles from insane amounts of time put into guitar over the years. My fox isn't too good as I said, but if all goes well with my combos and whatever, that sole finger handles the action fine at a strenuous pace.

I'm not saying that it's a better way to do those things. Just saying that it's just as viable to use z as it is R or L if you get used to it, and it's plausible that it would suit some people better.
