Sure, this episode got darker, but I wouldn't go as far to call it scary, especially when compared to characters like Him (that dude was freaking creepy)

that is true, but in the interview with lauren faust she made a point of saying that restrictions on how scary you can make something in modern day are much more sensitive than they were back then, they were probably hard pushing boundaries with that ep

Am I one of the only ones who honestly didn't find this episode to be particularly great?
It felt like watching Stare Master. Underwhelming, mostly uninteresting, and pretty bland.

It'll improve, I know it, but the only reason this episode felt any enjoyable to watch was because we were eating the hype up like a rabid herd of animals.

Overall I thought it was fairly good.

The first half was silly in a good way (mostly involving Pinkie Pie) though it seemed rushed through with the whole candy land weather ordeal.

The second half was ok even if it was fairly obvious with what was gonna happen, though it was enjoyable for me seeing how he did it. That and Fluttershy's response to Discord's trap was a bit of a surprise for me.

Anyways I'm curious how things play out even if the conclusion is obvious.

One other note to make is that while Luna wasn't in the episode her name was at least mentioned in this episode more than all of Season 1.

I'm also of the opinion that the episode wasn't excellent since it crammed a lot of stuff in at the start and was hence a little oddly structured, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. Discord's a really entertaining character; I was very amused to learn that John de Lancie voices him.
