@Nugget: Rarity and Fluttershy still have utility. Twilight and Dash's entire schtick is magic and speed, and they just lost the things that they...you know...kinda need for that stuff.

dunno, weve only seen him screwing around so far, we dont know how smart he is, how quick (mentally anyways), how mature, etc etc. i honestly see them outsmarting him to get the elements back.

fluttershy has godly stare and the ability to shut down dragon, wings werent needed for that
twilight still has crazy knowledge on all old thins in the world, and probably knows the entire story of discord, and well learn it as viewers via twilight monologue
RD was shown to be jsut as fast and athletic (probably not as strong) as AJ. which is pretty damn good

rarity uses magic a lot anyway, she won't be of much use unless there's another steven mother****ing magnet to give her mane to. discord isn't looking for charity.

pinkie pie, while awesome, will be pretty worthless too. singing a song won't really cut it.

rainbow dash is as athletic as aj, but her attitude will probably cause her to suffer injuries quickly. not a serious contender.

aj is more level headed and quite athletic too. her straight-talk and bucking skills could prove useful.

twilight has knowledge, a priceless tool, but without her traditional magic hax, i have trouble seeing how her knowledge will translate to a material advantage in the fight vs. discord. but she's the protagonist so i'm sure she'll pull something out of her plot and save the day again.

fluttershy has the stare and could probably tame discord in ten seconds flat. nothing more needs to be said.

no, what will happen is that fluttershy will solo discord and defeat him before anypony else has the chance to do anything, but there will be another raid boss behind discord (i'm still not convinced discord is a real antagonist) and the ponies will have to work together to defeat this one. or maybe it will be one of those "unexpected weakness" bosses where he's allergic to parties or fancy dresses or something.
