Yeah, so I didn't feel like typing a whole blog, to discuss this, so I'm just going to copy and paste this AIM conversation. It's slightly edited, so that the size is reduced to make for an easier read, like typos were taken out and just fixed to reduce typo correction lines and unimportant stuff is just removed. It's also edited for language appropriate for the public. Most of the conversation is intact though.

[11:18] steel2nd: so did u get $$$
[11:19] Pierce7d: Yeah, $78
[11:19] steel2nd: nice
[11:19] steel2nd: so yeah im just gonna main mk now
[11:20] Pierce7d: Good idea
[11:24] steel2nd: oh
[11:27] steel2nd: so
[11:27] steel2nd: dr pp
[11:27] steel2nd: beat boss
[11:27] steel2nd: at herb
[11:27] Pierce7d: I don't see why he wouldn't
[11:28] Pierce7d: Marth wins vs. Mario and Luigi and Dr. Peepee is 10 most underrated players in the country
[11:28] steel2nd: more like
[11:28] steel2nd: unknown
[11:28] Pierce7d: He's quite, and humble. I'm jealous
[11:28] Pierce7d: *quiet
[11:28] steel2nd: LOL
[11:28] steel2nd: did you see my posst
[11:28] steel2nd: in ur blog
[11:29] Pierce7d: Yes
[11:29] steel2nd: like do u really not see it
[11:29] Pierce7d: Didn't I reply?
[11:29] steel2nd: uh
[11:29] steel2nd: i never saw an update on my subscribed threads
[11:29] Pierce7d: Hmm
[11:29] steel2nd: ya u didnt reply
[11:32] Pierce7d: Well, I'm glad you're looking out for me. I'll take your words into consideration
[11:33] steel2nd: ok
[11:33] steel2nd: like neo just randomly im'd me the other day
[11:33] steel2nd: "wtf@ pierce's ego"
[11:34] Pierce7d: I dunno, I'm stressed. I lose matches I shouldn't and I win matches but not by as much as I should. I watch videos of myself and instantly spot bad decisions, and I get upset because I KNOW better
[11:36] steel2nd: well doesn't everyone else go through the mental stress? is beating the same crewmates over and over making you overconfident?
[11:36] steel2nd: and i dunno if u can beat adhd
[11:36] steel2nd: his style he used vs neo
[11:36] steel2nd: was ridiculously gay
[11:36] steel2nd: mental stress during tournament htat is
[11:36] Pierce7d: So, Mario won't fail to gayness because Mario can be just as gay as Diddy

[11:41] Pierce7d: And, I don't think beating my crew mates over and over makes me more confident
[11:41] Pierce7d: I haven't lost to ANYONE in forever
[11:41] Pierce7d: That makes me pretty confident
[11:41] Pierce7d: I mean, I lost to Cable in draft crews
[11:42] Pierce7d: Fair enough
[11:42] steel2nd: but friendlies = /= tourny
[11:42] Pierce7d: So what? Why does everything always have to be about tourney for?
[11:42] Pierce7d: Forget tourneys, I should just stop entering
[11:43] Pierce7d: I bring my best to every game, and I expect my opponent to as well. If they don't, that's their own fault
[11:43] steel2nd: but in my case
[11:43] Pierce7d: In fact, TOURNEY is the only reason people sandbag in the first place
[11:43] Pierce7d: And, it's where I perform the worst
[11:43] steel2nd: i play my best in tourny
[11:43] steel2nd: on most days
[11:43] steel2nd: i can't
[11:44] Pierce7d: That's you. That's not me, that's not even most people
[11:44] steel2nd: i dunno i just cant do my best in friendlies
[11:44] steel2nd: im more determined
[11:44] steel2nd: in tourny
[11:44] Pierce7d: Some people play better when it "counts"
[11:44] Pierce7d: Some people play better when it doesn't
[11:44] steel2nd: right
[11:44] Pierce7d: I really feel that whether a match is tourney or not has no bearing on a player's actual skill level
[11:44] steel2nd: but when it comes to determining skill it doesnt matter
[11:45] Pierce7d: Like, seriously, I never even considered it before
[11:45] Pierce7d: I play smash every single day
[11:45] Pierce7d: Either at a smashfest, or a friend is over, or I'm with a friend, or I'm having a crew meet, or I'm at a tourney
[11:45] Pierce7d: And you know what, I haven't been going to tourneys lately, and I haven't gotten any worse
[11:45] Pierce7d: And, I'm having just as much fun
[11:46] Pierce7d: I think I'm just going to quit entering stuff
[11:46] Pierce7d: Forget proving myself
[11:46] Pierce7d: I'll still go, and play friendlies.
[11:46] steel2nd: then what are you getting better for
[11:46] Pierce7d: And just have fun with people I like
[11:46] Pierce7d: I ENJOY IMPROVING
[11:47] steel2nd: for what end goal
[11:47] steel2nd: what are u shooting for
[11:47] Pierce7d: I don't need a end goal. It's a hobby. A video game I play for fun. I improve because I like to
[11:47] steel2nd: then go for it
[11:48] Pierce7d: In the end, it causes stress for me to worry about who thinks I'm good.
[11:48] Pierce7d: That's the end goal I used to be shooting for
[11:48] Pierce7d: What good has that done me?
[11:48] Pierce7d: NOTHING.
[11:48] Pierce7d: People just think I have an ego now is all
[11:49] Pierce7d: I'll keep playing, coaching.
[11:49] Pierce7d: And having fun
[11:50] Pierce7d: I'm going to "No Maps" because I promised the Mario players
[11:51] Pierce7d: I'm going to SNES because it's going to be fun, and it's a national, so why not?
[11:51] Pierce7d: And I'll enter Pound, for the same reason, and I'm teaming with Vex
[11:51] Pierce7d: I'll just enter large national and regional ****
[11:51] Pierce7d: Those are the fun tourneys
[11:51] Pierce7d: Everything else, I'll just go to for hanging out
[11:52] steel2nd: sounds good
[11:52] steel2nd: so u wont care about rankings
[11:52] steel2nd: despite u just saying ur aiming for atomsks spot
[11:52] Pierce7d: That was yesterday, this is today
[11:53] Pierce7d: I said that after just having finished a few conversations on AIM, and I was trying to start up a little pre-season motivation
[11:53] Pierce7d: You know, make some outlandish claim that I'm going to win, to make everyone strive harder
[11:53] Pierce7d: Typical Pierce stuff that generally gets interpreted as "Oh, he's cocky"
[11:55] Pierce7d: Do you mind if I copy this conversation to a blog?
[11:55] Pierce7d: I don't feel like retyping all of it when explaining that I'm quitting tourneys
[11:55] Pierce7d: Though, I'll probably continue winning the locals
[11:56] Pierce7d: For money
[11:56] steel2nd: go for it.
[11:57] Pierce7d: You know the most annoying part about being accused of an ego though?
[11:57] Pierce7d: I'm the FIRST person to shout out an underrated player, or recognize someone's potential, and try to bring it out
[11:57] steel2nd: i think it's your way of speaking
[11:57] steel2nd: on the internet
[11:58] Pierce7d: Eh, it's probably the Pierce syndrome
[11:58] Pierce7d: I used to Role-play a lot
[11:58] Pierce7d: And, I generally played a cocky character
[11:59] steel2nd: like when u type
[11:59] steel2nd: i think u get lost
[11:59] steel2nd: and just keep going
[11:59] steel2nd: and say stupid
[11:59] steel2nd: useless stuff like
[11:59] steel2nd: "the only mks that can beat me are m2k diem and ksizzle"
[11:59] steel2nd: "and NO non mk mains will beat me"
[11:59] steel2nd: "no marths can beat me"
[11:59] steel2nd: crap like that
[11:59] steel2nd: that isnt really useful
[11:59] steel2nd: and just make people think
[11:59] steel2nd: wow
[11:59] steel2nd: look at this kids ego
[12:00] Pierce7d: Eazy might beat me
[12:00] Pierce7d: The rest is pretty true
[12:00] steel2nd: eazy thinks xzax would beat you
[12:00] steel2nd: your mario
[12:00] Pierce7d: I mean, I'm not talking about a global level, I'm talking about on a local level
[12:00] Pierce7d: wtf
[12:00] Pierce7d: I mean, Dojo would probably **** my Mario
[12:00] Pierce7d: Doesn't that go without saying?
[12:01] steel2nd: true or not
[12:01] Pierce7d: Like, if I have to fight Tyrant, I'm not going Mario, obviously
[12:01] steel2nd: its what people see
[12:01] steel2nd: and what u should be careful of
[12:01] Pierce7d: I expect people to use common sense
[12:01] Pierce7d: Whether Xzax can or can't is irrelevant, because I NEVER see that kid at tourney, haven't since Apex
[12:02] Pierce7d: I'm talking about when I go to a tourney, these are the people that are likely to be there that will probably win. People I actually see.

. . . the beat goes on, but you get the idea. I figured perhaps viewing me in a one on one conversation might help people understand me better.

Don't think so much about it and take it so seriously

Get that wc mindset were havin fun and rapin it up lol

And you should still enter but not be so worried with what happens how you played was the best you could play at that moment no johns.

Keep in mind this is a video game lol i made about the same amount of money last summer as m2k by interning so remember to keep it in perspective.

Edit: And you're kind of full of yourself. Like just let your abilities speak for itself. You don't have to say "I can beat x and y and z". Just do it or just don't say anything. It literally does nothing. Doesn't matter if it's your best friend.

I can beat WarpStatus. I have a winning record vs. WarpStatus in local tournaments. I ***** him the last time we played. So what? he's doing better than me in tourney vs other ppl. Just means I have the potential and I need to step it up. At the same time I dont go around saying that cause it's pointless. btw I just brought up this example as a reference cause I used to do that and now I don't and it's way better.

Well, hey there.
I guess it's a good thing you ain't attending tourneys anymore, if it stresses you that much.

As Junk said, you do sound kinda full of yourself. I haven't thought that though, because I saw through it. But yeah, Steel and Junk said what was necessary already.
It's cool that you'll play Brawl only for fun (and money ) from now on. It may have been stressing you too much. I've seen your last blog also and just knew how stressed/irritated you felt about it.

Try Melee again :).... Jk.
In any case, I'm just some random guy who used to lurk in the Marth forums.
Have fun!

EDIT: If it doesn't bother you, I've seen that you've invited somebody to see your un-uploaded replays. Would you send them to me? I'm interested in seeing you at full potential.
My Brawl FC is in my details. But I don't know how to get my Wii wifi code, mind telling me how?

"Speak softly and carry a big stick sword."

I think it's great that you're going to stop worrying about how other people think of you in terms of skill and just enjoy the game, but don't let it stop you from going for tournaments. You know of course the fun in playing people that you don't play as often instead of just playing smashfests with friends/crewmates you know and play against all the time. It's different. Go for tournies but just enjoy them. But that's just if you want to. Just don't let it stop you from going.

I'm glad to see you've decided to stop worrying and just have fun. Added mental stress over a game isn't any good. Just make sure to enjoy yourself when you go to any tournaments and play the game whenever. You don't hold any obligations to anybody to continue playing at tournaments or at all, really, so do what makes you the happiest.

And would it be a problem to play with you sometime in the future? I don't live too far away from Teaneck, and I've been looking for people to play nearby.

Pardon me.
But what exactly are you not entering?

I appreciate both sides of this argument. Pierce, you should be pretty happy with Steel, he truly wants the best for you because he does recognize your potential and he wants you to prove it to the community in tournaments; however, if you have more fun in friendlies than you do in competition, there is nothing to stop you from entering and not entering certain Brawl venues.
From my viewpoint, I am absolutely terrified about entering the Smash competitive scene. I feel like I'm just one measly fish gushing blood and guts for all the elite sharks to feed on my nubbly goodness (Oh wow, good metaphor MK >.>''). When I read the line when you said "I am usually the first to point out underrated players or players with potential", I immediately thought "that is the exact position I want to be in, I want to be the underrated player who shows potential."
It's scary, and the community is tough, so do what you feel is right.

I have to say I don't agree with all that a person's skill in friendlies= their skill in tournaments.

I sandbag so hard in friendlies it's silly.
