Adjectives are very important to writing.

I'm almost beginning to be more irritated by everyone who rags on Twilight, than the ******** fangirls.

Same with me, I hated every second of it, but that was because of the story. What really pisses me off is the people who haven't read it say **** like "YEAH SHE HAS A BAD WRITING STYLE LOL THESAURUS", **** those people are a ****load worse than the fangirls, because they're even more mindless and they don't even have anything to base it off of.
You know what? You're right. What right do I have to dislike a published novel? How dare I exercise my rights and express my opinion about the Twilight series without having sold 1.3 million books in one day?

And what about all of those who agree with me? They aren’t allowed to dislike the books either if their own work hasn’t yet spawned “millions” of fan-sites.

Study some literary criticism, and then we'll talk about why Twilight is bad.

Ironically, Lythium, and in Switch's defense, I think he meant people who haven't read it should not criticize it as if they had. Like, I haven't read it, so for me to say "I think it's pedantic, poorly written garbage" though not necessarily an inaccurate assessment of her work based on literary critics and popular belief, it's simultaneously unfounded for me to say it exactly like that because technically I've not read it myself. It'd be more accurate for me to say "I've -heard- it's pedantic, poorly written garbage -because- of the overuse of adjectives."

Which means his real gripe rests on semantics.

Which is why I'm going to run away now and forget I even wrote this reply.

I find the concept that you cannot ever know things are bad until you have experienced them funny. I can think of tons of things I've never done precisely because I know they are bad.

So if one has to experience something to know if it's bad, does that mean that if I don't try piercing my **** with rusty nails, I can't claim that that's a bad idea?

HOLY **** Edward and Bella get together, Bella gets pregnant and almost dies, then turns into a vampire, giving birth to a human-vampire-werewolf offspring that Jacob falls in love with!!!!1

Lol. You can criticize the book all you want, I ****ing hate the thing too. However, if your opinion is based off of what you've read about, than you're a ******.

Also, I never said anything even remotely like "you can't criticize it because you can't write anything better.

And what about all of those who agree with me? They aren’t allowed to dislike the books either if their own work hasn’t yet spawned “millions” of fan-sites.
Lol again. Seriously, learn to read.

Study some literary criticism, and then we'll talk about why Twilight is bad.
Literary critics actually read the books they criticize.

As you should. That's also not what I was saying :p Of course you can think of tons of things you've never done, because you know they're bad (and so don't even want to do it once.)

Drinking a gallon of cyanide for instance. Or reading Twilight!

But... to say the taste of cyanide sucks, having never drunken it yourself, is to be presumptuous.

"Sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I wouldn't know cause I wouldn't eat the filthy mother ****er."

To say the writing of Twilight is ______ having never read it yourself, is presumptuous, clearly indicating you're merely resounding someone else's opinion, and calling it your own.

So if one has to experience something to know if it's bad, does that mean that if I don't try piercing my **** with rusty nails, I can't claim that that's a bad idea?
Of course you can. You could claim you -think- it's a bad idea. "I think that's a bad idea." But to say "That's a bad idea." without the modifier think, believe, would bet, is less accurate. Semantics! Which is why this was ******** to begin with. I just thought lyth's reaction wouldn't have been so fierce is she'd realized Switch wasn't saying "People aren't entitled to their opinions" and instead saying "People shouldn't have -baseless- opinions." And again to clarify, it's not a baseless opinion to say Twilight sucks. It is, however. baseless to say the writing in Twilight sucks, if you haven't read it yourself. Instead you'd say "I've heard the writing in Twilight sucks." That would be perfectly accurate/fine/semantically correct.

Ok for the 2nd time now I will forget I even entered into this >< Twilight sucks!!!1!

EDIT: Ah, well Switch is here now so I can safely leave this debacle w/o feeling remorse. Besides he's saying the same thing, albiet with more colorful metaphors.

I think people should calm down a bit.

It's just creative writing, literature, and your opinion on these things.
I don't see the reason to have a heated debate.

Then again, this is SWF.

Oh, I'm sorry... I don't recall saying anything that would leave that impression. Quite frankly, I just felt like responding to ignorance with sarcasm.

I am, however, astounded at the absolute maturity it must have taken you to make this comment towards me. In one sentence, you have completely shown me up and put me in my place. Also, I'm willing to wager that you totally didn't type this brilliant rebuttle while PMS'ing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other news, the lesson on parodies wasn't bad at all... we listened to a lot of Weird Al and had a lot of laughs.

I love people like you; in these sorts of situations you preach to be taking the moral high-road and that people like me are obviously lower than you for using insults, yet you do the exact same thing at the end of your post.

Looks like hypocrisy to me, but I'm just a potty-mouthed philistine anyways.

Obviously, you just didn't grasp the point. I was creating irony for the point of entertaining myself by including the last sentence right after commenting on your "maturity."

And I wish I could say I love people like you, but I don't: You certainly don't leave any such illusions as taking the moral high-road, because you don't. You use insults to insult. I use most insults as a form of sarcasm meant to entertain me, and anyone without severe anger issues.

Oh and I don't take the moral high road... I am a d**k. I'm aware of it, and I don't care, because I have fun being as such. But the only thing more fun than being a d**k is being a d**k and pretending to not be.

Now... care to stop trolling, or is that beyond you, good Sir §witch? It would be wonderful if you started basing your claims off of actual fact... just saying things like "However, if your opinion is based off of what you've read about, than you're a ******." Doesn't cut it... all you've left is an insult and an incorrect opinion without so much as a reason to make it even appear to be sensible.

I found it hilarious when my response to the journal topic "Perfection" was that perfect characters like Mary Sues were boring.... after we had already had a lesson on creating these characters. As an example of an obnoxiously perfect character, she used Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, which while a great example that I completely agree with, was not as relevant to today as the absolutely glaring epitome of Sue-ism that is Bella Swan.

Nice backtracking, bro.

And I wish I could say I love people like you, but I don't: You certainly don't leave any such illusions as taking the moral high-road, because you don't.
Correct.

You use insults to insult.
Correct again.

I use most insults as a form of sarcasm meant to entertain me, and anyone without severe anger issues.
Which makes you different than I am how exactly?

Oh and I have no illusions about taking the moral high road... I am a d**k. I'm aware of it, and I don't care, because I have fun being as such.
So what the **** was point of anything that you posted prior to this part?

Now... care to stop trolling, or is that beyond you, good Sir §witch?
That's a lot to ask of me. But apparently every time I disagree with someone that means I'm trolling.

It would be wonderful if you started basing your claims off of actual fact... just saying things like "However, if your opinion is based off of what you've read about, than you're a ******."
Just because simple logical progression is beyond your comprehension, that doesn't mean that its fallacious. I'll walk you through it step-by-step:
1) One cannot form a proper opinion on whether or not a writer's style is good or not if they have not so much as read anything by said author.
2) If one cannot form a proper opinion than they shoudl not be professing to know what they are talking about.
3) If one does not know what they are talking about but profess to know exactly what they are talking about, than they are ********.

Now, I know this is like grade 6 comprehension level stuff, but I'm sure a big high schooler like yourself should do fine.

Also, what are these fact things you say I should bring up? How exactly can fact be brought into a discussion like this? DO you want some hard data on how many internet ******s have actually read Twilight? Maybe a nice scatterplot? Or even a pie chart?

Doesn't cut it... all you've left is an insult and an incorrect opinion without so much as a reason to make it even appear to be sensible.
Again, you just obviously cannot understand relatively simple concepts, so I'll just leave you to chew on your webcam.

Nice backtracking, bro.

inorite?

Correct.

Correct again.

Which makes you different than I am how exactly?

I'ld say the primary difference between us is that I'm having fun and you're raging at someone you consider beneath you.

So what the **** was point of anything that you posted prior to this part?

Eh, I misworded that a bit... corrected that, obviously after you already made this part of the comment. And is there a point? The only way to counter a pointless arguement is with one. Anything else would detract from the humor of the situation. This isn't a serious debate on my part, nor do I consider you an opponent worth my time.

That's a lot to ask of me. But apparently every time I disagree with someone that means I'm trolling.

Obviously you weren't paying attention during the parts where you bashed people for no apparent reason while no relavently contributing to the topic.

Just because simple logical progression is beyond your comprehension, that doesn't mean that its fallacious. I'll walk you through it step-by-step:
1) One cannot form a proper opinion on whether or not a writer's style is good or not if they have not so much as read anything by said author.

Oh, no... basic logic, whatever shall I do?

Who said I was forming my own opinion on this and not just quoting those I hold in high esteem?

Also, what are these fact things you say I should bring up? How exactly can fact be brought into a discussion like this? DO you want some hard data on how many internet ******s have actually read Twilight? Maybe a nice scatterplot? Or even a pie chart?

Well, quite.

Actually, your previous remark was more of what I was looking for on this... even if that was also a very narrow-minded and flawed statement.

Again, you just obviously cannot understand relatively simple concepts, so I'll just leave you to chew on your webcam.

I think I'm starting to see the beginnings of a beautiful friendship.

Also, special ed kids in creative writing are both funny and annoying at the same time. No, I do not want to hear about Transformers again.... and the excitingness of any scene from Transformers 2 loses its effect when it takes you 10 minutes to explain what everyone who saw the movie already knows about... Also, I didn't care about your love of fanfiction the first 5 times you wasted class time talking about it... why the Hell would I care about it now? I once said that anyone who reads fanfiction as a respectable form of literature is ********... I was most certainly not expecting this to be proven in the literal sense of the word, and now I feel rather guilty...

I have read the books, thanks. I just think it's silly that you're criticizing someone for having an opinion, regardless of how baseless it is. If people want to look like idiots for following a bandwagon (be it pro or con), that's their prerogative.

But whatever, I was being facetious anyway, so I don't really care to argue it.

Wow, some of these blogs are just like the phoenix; only through fire/flame wars are they revived.

Except this one has teh grammaringz, and for some reason a focus on logic, which doesn't make any sense because the argument is pointless and unrelated to the OP. I am compelled to assume that neither of you harbor any ill will towards each other and have constructed this petty and loquacious argument in order to entertain the masses, and that you two in fact probably get together for a friendly drink after each of these episodes and inquire about the health of your respective families, and a grand old time is had by all.

I'm not saying they can't have an opinion, I'm saying that they are ****ing ******* for forming an opinion, that they hold be true above all else, based off of nothing.

And lol @ Chris still dodging everything I say and than saying that I'm angry.

None of you here have actually seen me angry and you never will.

Solid police work there, Vrael. I'll do better next time. You'd also do well to look up the word conscience, I don't think you quite grasp its meaning.

apparently! ><

This thread needs more grammar Nazis, semantics whoring, and crappy-book bashing. I mean the OP complains about how bad the creative writing class is, no? Why do you think the class is so bad? Cause the teacher's lame? Nah, it's cause creative writing has been in the toilet since the 70s.

Well, I constructed the "debate" to entertain me... I don't know about him. But hey... how about we raise a toast!

And my current assignment- to write a parody.... this could either be really annoying or really fun.

My opinion is that you're all wrong.

Also, Switch is not angry. He's a mischievous little teddy bear that likes being held and stroked at night.
