Ok… like I said, there’s a lot, some of which is coming from sources beyond my comprehension. I’ll start with something simple. These characters were playable in pre release builds:
Daffy Duck
Emmett Brickowski
Ruby Rose
Static Shock
Wicked Witch of the West (as the resident Oz fan of Smashboards, this stinks)
WHY are they shutting down NOW when they have all these READY TO GO CHARACTERS on the backburner? They couldn't have kept it going until they ran out? Good god almighty, what an absolute WASTE!
Is there a place we can spam WB Games to tell them to make a full retail version or SOMETHING to keep all this work from going to the trash can?

When you say release, which release are you talking about? If they had Daffy almost ready to go since the beta launch, it'd be insane for them to take that long to release him, hell that'd go for the final launch too.
Personally I think less about "cool references" and more about innovative moveset design. I thought Jason and Powerpuff Girls looked really impressive, and didn't hinge on this all too much - if there are some overbearing design flaws with those two I'm not plugged in enough to know, but the most compelling examples are those who feel like they transcend the Smash skeleton and achieve something that their contemporaries haven't yet.
And I unno, it's maybe a mixed bag but I thought MVS did decently well by that. Among earlier fighters, Tom & Jerry is a clear standout. Not sure how good they are but honestly the visual creativity makes them worthwhile regardless.
How many MVS fighters are actually "cool reference" oriented, actually? I recall Morty being pretty underwhelming for this reason, which is a shame because I wanted to play him at the time, but I think most of them seem to prioritize archetype and concept over going for the quirky nod. Compared to like, NASB.
More than half the roster didn't have "innovative moveset design" - they had moves that couldn't be used half the time or moves that cause stupid status ailments. They toned that **** down with the newer characters - which was needed - but the fact they didn't adjust the unfun movesets from before meant we still had to deal with it.
Jason is a fantastic example of balancing his functional aspects with references and unique mechanics to him that make sense for him to have that don't overcomplicate him. If every character was designed as well as Jason, I wouldn't have an issue, but then you have characters like Bugs and Finn who, hilariously, both have opposite problems to each other.

If the list is true (not believing it until I see a source), it likely means in the here and now as opposed to that far back. When the game relaunched, there were very early WIP Daffy animations, implying he wasn't near done at that point.
Tbh, i would be surprised if they were in unfinished model or even test models like the shaggy daffy files in the regular game. So the moveset was conceptualized, but prob not properly animated
The fact that the animation in this game is amazing despite everything, i'm willing to bet that's probably one of the things that took the most time to code into.
Wicked Witch i also get the feeling wasn't released because of the potential use of poppy causing a sleep effect that would require an unique animation for all characters. A shame really
Apparently there’s a lot of accounts coming out regarding Tony Huynh (PFG head). I won’t go over all the details, but from what I understand, he was overly demanding.
Many devs have been talking about how he wasn’t a great boss.
After the rumor of the shutdown came out I decided to think about like, what I would have liked the roster to look like in a hypothetical reboot where it's a regular retail release, I have full control over the roster, and it isn't completely poisoned by the Multiversus brand name. Went for a roster of 48 characters: thirteen more than the actual game, with all but nine characters being retained (I only had so much space lol). Figured I'd share it here for old times' sake.
So it really is coming to a close already. Not surprised but still unfortunate.
I eagerly await the development info that'll inevitably (leak) be released and hope the modding scene can try to pick up the pieces. Though given the nature of it's release, I have to wonder if it's even worth trying to salvage. Reuploading a delisted WB product is just asking for a C&D.

Multiversus feels like the PlayStation All-Stars of the 2020's
-Really cool idea for a platform fighter
-Has the right library of characters
-Tries something different with tis gameplay
-Studio is small branch of the main company
-Said studio is clearly passionate and wanted to make something great
-The studio that owns them made things difficult for them
-Roster was mixed
-Game had a short life span
-Now we have characters that were in development that'll probably never get released (Dart and Abe for PSASBR)
Now just wait 10 years and they'll have another thing in common. People missing them and wish the studio would give them idea another chance.
But difference is that PSASBR's servers at least stayed on until 2018

I'm taking another crack at rebuilding the roster. I'm keeping the 35 character total.
1. Bugs Bunny
2. Daffy Duck
3. Taz
4. Tom & Jerry
5. Fred Flintstone
6. Shaggy
7. Velma
8. Scooby-Doo
9. Finn
10. Jake
11. Samurai Jack
12. The Powerpuff Girls
13. Garnet
14. Ben Tennyson
15. Jason Voorhees
16. Gizmo
17. Freddy Krueger
18. Betelgeuse
19. Agent Smith
20. Willy Wonka
21. Harry Potter
22. Godzilla
23. Rick Sanchez
24. Ruby Rose
25. Tony Soprano
26. Arya Stark
27. Superman
28. Batman
29. Wonder Woman
30. Aquaman
31. Green Lantern
32. Flash
33. Raven
34. Joker
35. Darkseid
Cuts:
1. Marvin
2. Banana Guard
3. Marceline
4. Stripe
5. Morty
6. Black Adam
7. Harley Quinn
8. Nubia
9. The Iron Giant
10. Reindog
11. Steven Universe
12. Lola Bunny
It's not perfect by any means but it's a lot more representative of WB as a whole, I think. I could also be convinced to bench Taz for a different Looney Tunes villain. Yosemite Sam, maybe?
I would've include Gandalf but Tolkien Estate seems like a nightmare to work with

Not sure if anyone has brought this up but there's a group of people attempting to keep the game alive and add new content to the game
Here's their Twitter handle! https://x.com/betamvs
It's not preserving the game itself, but I've thought about porting some of the characters to Project M. Unfortunately it'll probably never be more than a thought, because I'm a lazy talentless sack of **** who will never do anything worth a damn, but that's neither here nor there.
I think that generally yes the protagonist should be first if their moveset potential allows it, but I'm not against a secondary getting in first if there's a good reason. It's when the character isn't even secondary but tertiary that annoys me
The answer to this particular instance is that
1. Steven isn't really a fighter in his home series; he's generally about using words
2. His moveset in this game is straight up dog****
3. I think even CN likes Garnet more. She got picked to represent the show in Crossover Nexus over Steven
4. More female representation is never a bad thing
5. Good god they fumbled his character arc and made me like him significantly less
That said I would want at least a few substantial moveset changes to her (and most characters honestly) but Steven's kit needs to be thrown out entirely and started from scratch
I feel like Harley makes too much sense to cut honestly. She's the fourth piller of DC and merch sells like crazy. I do find her push annoying, but I don't see a a world where they cut her.

I protest a few of these. Steven was more about words, but if words alone didn't work, he was more than willing to throw down.
I mained Steven alongside Finn. I thought Steven's moveset was cleverly done, managed to fit in all his powers without it feeling crammed together, and fun to play.
I have my own opinions on his character arc but this isn't the place for that.

Yes there are points where Steven throws down absolutely but he doesn't really do it like this? Bubbling and Watermelon Stevens also just aren't fun mechanics in general, and no one likes getting ping-ponged against shields.
I also forgot reason number 6: I hate the voice actor they picked in this game he sounds way too whiny and the dialogue feels like it was written by someone who watched like, just Season One which uh... I hate
The comic was mediocre but I'm so glad it came out at all. I liked the well executed resurgence of Avia Free and it'll be the only media of characters like Scooby and the Witch lol.
i've thought about creating my own version of the roster for Multiversus, but i want some time to post it since i'm currently working on it aswell as taking time to relax.
