Yeah shield dash can save you tonnes of stamina (the dash takes stamina, the block itself depletes reduced stamina - usually zero - BUT if you have low stamina at the time of the block then you take the hit). It ***** most projectiles - shield dash through raths' fireballs/barioth's ice twister thingies/lagi's thunderbolts. Some other things like lagi/agna body slam it also *****. Also lots of attacks which usually deal slight damage when you block them will deal none when you block with a shield dash. Really useful if you have a bunch of temp damage and don't want to lose the hp.

Killing generally nets you more body pieces, while capture gets you charms/rustshards. I got 5 charms and 1 rustshard (all useless, naturally. I'm still using the autogard charm lols. Also MH3, give me the god **** rust lance already. Christ.) from capturing los + lagi. I generally kill (me being a heartless *******) unless it's a capture quest or I'm short on time.

Also, that guy on Barroth+Barioth could have done that so much faster (maybe under 10 mins) if he countered after the triple thrust rather than back hop and punished Barioth's tail swipe correctly (for the record, shield dash in and shield bash --> get stabbing. The tail swipe doesn't hit close in). Though apart from that. it was... pretty flawless play.

Just curious; how have the people with long play times controllers held up? The left-analogue stick mashing worries me a bit.

Hit it in the head.

Kinda sounds obvious, but the head is incredibly weak (rathian's head I think takes the most cutting damage out of any hurtbox in the game) and staggers fairly easily. Dunno what poking utensils you can use by rathian (rampart? gobulu muruka?) but 6 or so hits to her head should stagger it. Which generally means you have enough time to re-stagger before it can do anything about it.

When it's hovering, get slightly to its side and upwards poke at its feet/wings/tail. Don't put yourself in a position where her aerial backflip can **** you. However the lance isn't very good against hovering wyverns in general.

I've hardly gone online yet, and the bowgun really seems mostly suited to having multiple people. And using one would requre me making a whole new armour set, and.. yeah.

Finished all the offline quests now. I somehow managed to do both Four Horns (my second and third diablos kills lol) and A Burnt Offering first go (for the latter; dung bombs ftw. 2 of 'em make uragaan run). So yeah. HR 4 now and trying to figure out what the fastest way to grind HRs is.

That's what I did. HR 18 now. ^_^

From HR 0 to 8 I'd use Quropeco or R. Ludroth. Both give very similar HR points. Remember that to unlock the urgent quest for each set of stars you need to do the key quests. They're listed on this page.

Shouldn't take long if you have nice gear.

HR16.

Alternating between playing solo and with groups. Mostly depends on how long it's been since I've seen someone take a triple rath fireball to the face 3 times* and how bored I'm getting solo.

*This came depressingly close to actually happening. He died 2 times that way (he was using switch axe; unbreakable = no invuln after taking damage), the third was taking a hit from rath's GG tail and then took the poison ticks until he died. Apparently bringing antidotes was beneath him.

On another note, barroth solo with bowgun just sounds painful.

Try Barroth solo with Switch Axe lol.

After Giggi I made a note to always carry 10 antidotes lol.

Heh yeah bowgun alone for soloing is awkward at times_ Doable but that's why I keep a melée set and lance on backup at all times_ Its amusing to see people still fail in online games_ Seriously how hard is it to understand a fight and it's mechanics_

Barroth solo with bowgun was easy. Except it took me about 20 minutes lol. Could prob do it in 10 if I didn't screw up sleep bombing, or if I could use poison shots with my set.

Now to figure out how I'm gonna do rathian solo... Think I'll have to stick to pellet shots to avoid fireballs...

Fireballs YUM.

Basically nowadays if you see someone with a SHIELD get hit by Rath tail, you rage quit. Lol.

And when will people learn that when a Rathalos is about to scream, DON'T STAND IN ****ING FRONT OF IT. lol.

I'm the guy standing in front of rathalos when he roars

...countering the roar, poking his face 3 times, then back hopping before the fireball comes out, that is.

You guys still playing this?

I just ran into some guy who was HR40, fighting agna. He:

a) was using gear, the skills of which totaled to health -10. Yep. I've seen some ******** assortments of gear, but he takes the cake.
b) forgot to bring cool drinks, and so begged one and then ran down to camp to grab more
c) died the first time agna used its sweeping heat beam
d) ran back in and died immediately to agna's jumping around the place attack thingy
e) ran around harvesting and not fighting
f) had agna turn up in the same area as him and kill him again

And I don't think he was griefing, I'm pretty sure he was just that terrible. I'm not entirely sure how it's physically possible to be that bad and get to HR40. I mean I ran into some dude who was nearly as bad at HR18 fighting a barioth (he was a bowgunner, hit the barioth with recov/armor/demon shot more times than he hit me, and died 3 times in rather quick succession), but he didn't have any particularly difficult urgents to get through.

I dunno wtf people complain about bowgunning anything for. Even lagi was doable with a low rank bowgun (I'll admit, it took me about 25 minutes first try looool, still good considering most people get timed out trying to KO him low rank).

Gunning is so much fun!

Havent played MH for awhile....
We need bowgunners, once you get up to HR50 to do your final urgent, that urgent will make you rage and will make you want to play with gunners.

Guess ill start playing soon, last time i was online i was HR108 so ill help someone if you need help <3

I like my armour skillz, health 50+, cap guru, great luck, punish draw and whatever from a charm.
