My friend hosts our multiplayer server, but he's gone for the week. I want to play Minecraft, but I really don't think singleplayer's worth it. Back to melee then.

Yogcast FINALLY responded

We’re sure many of you have seen or heard about Notch’s post-Minecon tweets, which were not what we expected to see when we got off the plane from Minecon – we’ve had a sleep now and recovered a bit, so this is our response:
We are very disappointed by these tweets from someone we admire and respect. We can understand that it was the morning after the deadmau5 party and Notch was very tired, but we are still fairly upset. The quotes and actions that Notch attributed to us were not said by us or published anywhere by us. Therefore we are surprised and confused about where this stuff has come from - especially since the only time we spoke to Notch was at the interview.
Regarding dropping f-bombs at the show - we apologise for this, but had rehearsed the whole show in front of the organisers and half of Mojang and they had approved it. We were given no guidelines or oversight in the weeks leading up to Minecon and there were ample opportunities at the rehearsal for Mojang to inform us of problems, such as being careful about swearing, which is pretty common in our youtube videos.
Out of all the tweets that Notch sent out, most hurtful was the accusation that we told a kid to “**** off” and crossed out another signature – which is something we would never ever do.
We loved spending time with fans and were overwhelmed by how many people were there to support us and give us gifts. Simon has enough Jaffas to last him until the middle of 2012. The problem was that Minecon is a new show and organisation was pretty bad, and when we came to the scheduled signing sessions, nothing had been set up for us and we had to scrabble around to fetch tables, ropes and pens ourselves. With some younger kids around, it was our priority to make sure everything was safe, as we have seen injuries in the past.
This lack of organization contributed to long and confused lines and we were heartbroken to have to turn away so many people when we ran out of time. Simon can only handle a certain amount of time between cups of coffee and nicotine tablets before collapsing, but we made a real effort to get out there and managed to do about six hours of signing. Although we were frustrated, we would never have treated fans in the way that Notch suggested we did.
We were also unhappy and surprised that a week before Minecon, Mojang informed us that they had sold the rights to livestream our show and content to IGN – they hadn’t asked us, they hadn’t spoken to us – they just sold it. Because of this, we nearly cancelled the trip, but decided to say “balls to it” and come anyway, because we felt we owed it to the fans. Hannah actually spoke with IGN directly earlier, and they agreed to take their video down and let us put the videos up on our channel, so a big thanks to them for that.
We were not paid, and never demanded to be paid. We asked for some support, and Mojang said they could offer us two hotel rooms for the duration of the stay and a small boardroom to rest in. We spent a huge amount of money on flights, rooms, food and equipment for the 10 people that we brought along to support us, act as security, make videos/posts and generally help out. We also gave away 100 special t-shirts for free.
The reason we came to Minecon is because we wanted to thank you guys and meet the community that we love and are a part of. We couldn’t have gotten to where we are now without you guys, and so we decided to eat the costs of attending and just have fun. This is why we spent our panel giving a voice to loads of talented people that couldn’t attend but have made Minecraft what it is today.
We’re not gonna stop making videos, not going to stop loving you guys, and hopefully we’ll see you at more gaming conventions in the future.
Lewis & Simon & Hannah
EDIT: Video linking to this post http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HddMANh3Xis see, it is really me after all. Hi mother!

To be honest, I believe them. I'm not sure wth is up with Notch. I saw videos of their signing for little kids and the kid was ecstatic he was meeting his "Heroes".

It's likely the entire Yogscast scenario is just stress related misunderstanding. I apologize for bringing it online before talking to them.
If that doesn't convince you that notch ****ed up, I don't know what can.

IGN gave the final review of Minecraft and it's release a 9/10.

It's the only game I played for this long, I would have gave it a 10

9/10 is probably the best IGN will give MC anyways, even though it deserves a solid 10/10

And is Notch ******** or something? That whole story seems believable and Notch is only NOW apologizing slightly for this?

Let's magnify pixels and have people pick them up and do stuff with them. GENIUS.

If anything the game idea was amazing, but he's the only one that was smart enough to use it.
You must put a lot of salt on your food.

Anyone want to tell me the server address for the SWF server? Next time I have access to good internet, I'd like to try and play. c:

Hah didn't expect minecraft to get a thread on smashboards, I really gotta start coming back here more and build back up a post count. :(

anyway on topic, been playing since beta release. Also glad to see that despite us having the "final release"we'll still get updates and prereleases hopefully with good content, since we've yet to see half of what Notch promised.

and @ the yogcast thing, I don't side with neither Notch nor the cast... but honestly the yogcast guys are as much freakin drama babies as notch is lazy. The whole thing is just really dumb.

The first part of your post was unnecessary.
I'm just playin' around, F8AL. ...But. Apologies if that offended you, Fuelbi~ ^^;

I'm sad. I just went back into the End in my creative map to see if the Enderdragon respawns... it doesn't. :c Lame... of course, the thing gives you enough EXP for your level to rocket from 0 to 120, but y'know... I wanted to fight him again ;u;

Lol nah it's ok, I've been told worse anyways lol

And I need help. I have a server that I'm gonna make an LP with, but I also want to make another server so me and a friend can play on it. Can anyone please help me make a second world that I can switch between back and forth with the LP one and my friend's one?

Now that I thought about it and have read some, this game does seem extremely unfinished. And alot of what Natch has done in the months leading up to the release is was lazy and disrespectful to the community that gave him the fame he should not have now.

This game needs much work.

And I hope he does work on it intensely to a point that it can pass off as the full release game it should be.

Fuelbi - sorry I left again earlier, unpacking Christmas stuff.

You could either have a second server (in a second folder), and you turn off one/turn on the other,
-or-
Rename the world folders and such in the server folder.

A lotta his supposed fame came from a few sources.

1: 4chan
2: hipsters on reddit
3: yogcast

But yea he really was lazy, and now hes on another one of his famous vacations to add insult to injury... OTL

While I agree that Minecraft is great, it doesn't deserve a 10/10. There are a lot of features that are incomplete and way too many bugs on release that break the game.

Holy ****, a game based around doing whatever you want is lacking an infinite number of features

Sure that is not a ridiculous complaint

You do know what "break the game" means, right?
When did I say there should be an infinite number of features? I'm talking about fishing, NPCs, and NPC villages among other things that are incomplete.
And yes, I do know what break the game means: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Bugs
The ones with red exclamation points are game breaking. The other ones don't help, either.

Once Notch fixed those, then you'll be griping about not having vertical redstone. Once that happens, you'll ***** about not having the Aether. After he implements that, you'll whine about the lack of zebras.

Your complaints will never end. Therefore, you have an infinite number of complaints.

First of all, why do you trust this page when some of the complaints use the words "I" and "my"? Second, some guy named Apocalypse is refuting almost all of the red "bugs". Third, if one of the "game breaking" bugs is "When walking in a certain spot in Minecraft it may crash", all credibility is lost. Fourth, if you go out of your way to crash the game, the bug isn't game breaking, you're game breaking.

Are you taking this wiki page seriously?

1. You're assuming I'm going to complain about those things. What I'm saying is that Notch promised features, and even partially added features, but never completed them. The point is, though, that he hasn't fixed those features that I was talking about. Why does Notch get a free pass when other indie developers can release complete games at half the price without having 2 years of open beta?
2. He only refuted two of the bugs. I'm trusting this page because it's made by respectable and reliable people from the Minecraft community that actually know what they're talking about.

It wasn't until 1.0.0 that my game crashes every 20 minutes or so and I've been playing this since alpha.

This seems like an issue with java and not with minecraft. Apocalypse r 05:40, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
If it involves mods then it shouldn't be on this page since it does not affect vanilla minecraft. Unable to verify. Apocalypse r 05:40, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
I can run minecraft on xp systems with less than half that much ram. access violation means segment fault, check your video drivers. Apocalypse r 05:40, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
there is actually a fix for this I believe, and its an issue with lwjgl if I recall correctly, not minecraft. Apocalypse r 05:40, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
Unable to reproduce: If I close during the credits or the poem, when I load the world, I end up before leaving the end. Apocalypse r 05:40, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
This has been fixed in 1.0.0. I'm not mojang, so I'll leave its status alone Apocalypse r 05:40, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

I can go on, if you can't read the page yourself.

There's still tons of glitches in the game. Just saying they don't exist is blatant fan-boyism. I think you're missing the point of my post, anyway. Minecraft is not a perfect game. Many of the features in the game are unpolished or incomplete. The theme of the game is really spread out. I would've been fine with the game before 1.8, but these adventure aspects seem really tacked on, and really takes away from the feel of the game. If it's truly a game where you can make it to be whatever you want, you shouldn't add a theme.

10/10, in the gaming world, does not mean a perfect game. In most art mediums, 10/10 doesn't mean perfect. As for your complaints about more features in a sandbox game, well, I guess Notch should just stop adding things to the game? Right? And I don't even know what the "theme" of Minecraft is, unless you're talking about the theme of building stuff.

Here's a link to The Best Gamers, a usually satire in nature review source.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap87xnjOh8E

They make strong arguments.

The game has flaws. It in its state should not be considered a completed game because Notch says so.

I have place four days of hours into the game. I'm sure some of you have done more, but I believe that's enough to have an educated opinion in the subject.

I LOVED the aspect of traveling into unexplored areas and cavernous underground depths to see what there was to be seen. I liked the ability to travel into another world (Nether) and seeing what that had to offer. I poured hours on that alone. But that was the initial hype for me. Soon I saw myself completing my personal goals (Reaching the complete bottom, getting as high as I can, finding my original spawn before I died, seeing how far I can go through the nether) but it all got boring. The excitement had gone.

But then i found a new love. Being able to create things on a server and sharing it with friends (even better if you know the people personally). I had a drive to make something they would marvel at. The threats of burning my wooden house pushed for me to gather non burnable materials. I poured hour on hour until I was 3,000 blocks away from my friends, had a house that had a bedroom, a furnace room, a tree farm seven stories tall, a farm to grow anything, a mushroom farm with working lighting, a nether room, a staircase to an underground cave for exploring, a working mob farm, and a tower to the top. But all of that was for naught when i find out my friends shut off the server due to personal issues.

So I had my fun. But I wish the game was treated a little more fairly by the developer.

"It’s a bit tricky to really do a release for Minecraft as we keep updating it all the time. For one, the version we deem as the “full version” won’t be very different at all from what the game was like a week ago, and we’ll keep adding features after the release as well, so it’s really more of a milestone when we finally get rid of the Beta label, and some kind of goal for us to work towards. The plan is to be open with this and try to get people to cheer us on as much as possible, but to be open with the fact that the game won’t change much at the actual release day. (It’s more a progress up until that point)"

Notch didn't give Minecraft a "formal" release because he knew that he'd continue updating it afterwards.
